Captain Sensible

Who are the best FPL captain options for Gameweek 21?

The latest Fantasy Premier League captaincy debate has been thrown wide open by recent form and injuries.

After becoming the most captained player in a Gameweek ever – and providing no returns against Sheffield United – Bruno Fernandes (£11.3m) and his team will have to bounce back against an improving Arsenal.

As a result, Fantasy managers have already turned towards some more appealing candidates for Gameweek 21.

A number of Manchester City players have made themselves comfortable in this week’s captaincy conversation, alongside some Merseyside assets Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.6m) and Mohamed Salah (£12.5m)

As Gameweek’s 21 captaincy debate seems to be one of the most open ones since the start of the new calendar year, we will look into the most appealing options and as always, the analysis will be backed up by the extensive data from Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area. Only those with a valid subscription can access it in full.

CAPTAIN POLL

After scoring 14 points in just 52 minutes against West Bromwich Albion, İlkay Gündoğan (£5.7m) leads the Fantasy Football Scout Captain Poll going into Gameweek 21 with 22.7% of the votes.

The German international is accompanied by two of his teammates in this week’s poll, as Raheem Sterling (£11.5) and Joao Cancelo (£5.9) sit second and fifth respectively.

The remaining two spots are occupied by Harry Kane (£11.3m) and Calvert-Lewin, although the Tottenham Hotspur striker is now a major doubt ahead of Spurs’ trip to Brighton & Hove Albion:

“He’s injured in both ankles. To cope with one pain, probably he could (continue), but with both, it’s very painful and sore. He just couldn’t. For Harry to leave a game means it’s not a nothing injury. We don’t know how long (he will be out). We’ll have to see.” – Jose Mourinho

Son Heung-min (£9.8m) and Salah are also players who have gone above the 5.0% threshold in this week’s poll so far, gaining 6.4% and 7.0% of total votes, respectively – although they might end up better supported in light of Kane’s injury.

Meanwhile, last week’s top pick Bruno Fernandes sits 9th with only 3.1% of votes, even behind the Colombian international James Rodríguez (£7.7m, 4.5% of votes).

I think Everton will score 5+ goals in their next 2 matches...

Is Bamford -> Richarlison (-4) worth it?

Would probably play Richarlison over Raphinha

I expect Everton to start firing, no one can deny Rich is one of their talismen and he is on pens.

    Have DCL

      It's a great punt imo

I am considering this exact hit (also have DCL and have used my 2FT)

Not sure if I'll have the balls to go through with it though!

        I have already done a -8 🙂

But my way of playing FPL is dont let the other hits affect other moves. It's a -4 plain and simple, I've done the -8, so its just a case of whether it's worth 4 points...

Therefore, I'd say our cases are the same

Well I royally cocked-up this week, deservedly punished for my dumb early transfer. I think I can get by with taking just a -4 or can go for broke with my first ever -8.

    0FT 0.3m ITB

    McCarthy
    Cancelo Justin Stones
    Salah Bruno Son Raphinha Soucek
    Kane* Bamford

    Johnstone - Adams Lowton Coufal

Adams can come in for Kane of course, but then that front 8 looks a bit puny.

    A) (-4) Raphinha > Gundogan (C) (and pray 4 Kane)
    B) (-4) Kane > DCL (Son/Cancelo (C))
    C) (-8) Both
    D) Do nothing

Didn't watch the game last night so can't comment too much but are we confident that Kane will be out for a few weeks?

Always remember at the start of the season I got rid of Son when he was 'injured' & then played the game after having a decent haul I think. Deja vu?

For that reason alone perhaps I'm reluctant to get rid of Kane.

If it wasn't his ankles, I'd be tempted too.
But he's had such problems with ankle injuries, and this time it's both.
Can't see him playing for a few weeks.

      Not sure, no.

The difference i see is Jose took Son off at half-time as part of his complaints about fixture congestion and when it backfired, he blamed a phantom injury that no-one had spotted during the first half. This time, Kane was actually injured so it was necessary for him to come off. But whether it's just a few bruises he can recover from, we don't know yet.

Made the error of opting for Foden in for KDB instead of Gundogan/Sterling last week. Is it worth just fixing that error straight away and getting Foden out for one of the other two? Or hold and hope his stats eventually give returns?

Yeah, you’re probably right. Can’t decide if two City defenders is a better double though long term? Feels like Cancelo, Stones and one midfielder is the best bet.

Could do Raphinha to Gundogan though in fairness.
