My Sky Fantasy Football team reveal and the best players for bonus points

Fantasy Football Scout are bringing you even more content on Sky Sports Fantasy Football this season.

Our resident experts Luke Williams and Niall Murphy have already uploaded a two-part 2021/22 Sky season preview and will be recording every week throughout the season so you get the very best insight and advice.

This week, Luke – who has a past Sky overall rank of 4th to his name – reveals a tactical draft, targeting the bonus points on offer for the crucial first three Gameweeks of the season before the Overhaul kicks in.

New to Sky Sports Fantasy Football? Read Scout’s Sky official beginner’s guide to get you started.

The theory

Before we dive into the team, make sure to study the bonus points on offer if you’re not familiar with their award parameters.

This article focuses mostly on the passing bonus, due it being the most predictable of all bonus points. A team that plays possession football will rarely change its tune and also can mirror fixture difficulty pretty well. For example, Man City at home to Newcastle should see the reigning champions have the vast majority of the ball; when City play away v Liverpool, perhaps less so.

Using the Premium Members Area stats we can see which players were in and around the magic 60 passes (2 points) to 70 passes (3 points) mark per 90 minutes for last season.

We will use this metric to target the top-ranked players who also appear to be first-choice starters for their respective teams and discount the rest for now.

For goalkeepers, saves per game come into play and for forwards, it’s shots on target. Defenders and midfielders will focus on the passing element and treat tackles as a pleasant surprise if achieved.

I’m so tempted by Gundogan and Greenwood as OOP striker now. Need to get rid of raphina or buendia.

Hmm not sure what's going on with Chelsea yet, with the lukaku rumours, plus not great fixtures. Much prefer mahrez

    2. Gomolon
      • 9 Years

I think Havertz will play up top for GW1 so tempted with having him as a punt, then transfer to Mahrez for GW2

    3. House Frey Wedding Planner
      • 5 Years
      2 years, 9 months ago

      Mahrez.

Chelsea have horrible fixtures after gw1 and they may still sign a striker and limiting Hav's appeal

      Save the transfer

      1. Andy_Social
        • 11 Years

Both are punts - either not nailed or position uncertain.

  14. waltzingmatildas
    • 13 Years
    2 years, 9 months ago

I think my team basically comes down to this :
    A) bruno, raphinha, ESR
    B) mahrez, jota, greenwood

A is safer and gives me Salah, Bruno and son who can be dropped down to mahrez /sancho /greenwood /jota etc if they get minutes.
B is riskier and relies on them all getting decent returns and potentially having to take hits to fix them if it doesn't work out. But could be much more explosive.

    What do you reckon?

    1. Bleh
      • 7 Years
      2 years, 9 months ago

Similar dilemma here. Starting off with something similar to B and will take a hit or two to bring in Bruno if he’s firing.

      1. waltzingmatildas
        • 13 Years
        2 years, 9 months ago

The much more exciting option, after all its only a game right?! Cheers

    2. Gomolon
      • 9 Years
      2 years, 9 months ago

I'm looking at a hybrid of the above with Salah Bruno Mahrez Raph and Barnes. Means I'm most scared of Son exploding but given that Nuno was 11th choice and Kane wants to leave I'm hoping they won't have a strong start to the season

    3. House Frey Wedding Planner
      • 5 Years
      2 years, 9 months ago

      B.

Like you say, it could be far more explosive.

Don't like Arsenal and Leeds fixtures in first 3-4 games and Greenwood gives a route into Utd's attack without the money Bruno commands

    4. R.C

    Anyone using BB early on?

Never really paid off for me using it on a dgw. Used it early 2 times and finished top 5k both seasons after a strong start. Only times i have finished that high

Think so. Even after all these years I still can never get it right. Actually got negative points off my BB last season, so am looking forward to getting it out the way.

Thing is I don't want it to lock me into a GW2 WC, so am monitoring the likes of ESR who have a decent fixture first up, but then are benchable for a couple of weeks.

Start of the season is when the luck factor is at its highest, so could go either way.

I've tried numerous formations but I wouldn't recommend that. I had a very satisfactory 442 and tweaked it to a 352. I feel the former had the better players but the latter is the better formation. I'd say there are 3 viable formations - 352, 442 and 343

        1. Karan14
          • 8 Years
          2 years, 9 months ago

Yeah I agree even I prefer a 352. Personally I'm not to keen on double Pool def or rotating 2 x 4.5m def.
TAA, Shaw & Digne looks good enough for a back 3 with Ben White as first sub.

          1. Andy_Social
            • 11 Years

I really wanted a TAA/Robbo/Shaw fixed back line but it couldn't get it to work. I've kept TAA and Shaw and have 3x4.5 defenders, one of which has a great fixture per GW.

    What's with this Buendia hype?

Not seen him play that much.

Is he nailed in that Villa team?

I think out of all their summer signings Buendia is the most nailed.

He'll be their most creative player

What's with all the sudden Mahrez love, safe for a couple of weeks but then Pep Roulette starts again surely?

Mahrez has the least competition for his spot in the team right now IMO.

But yeah I don't mind keeping him for 2-3 games and then if he gets rotated I can sell him for pretty much any midfielder in the game priced 10m or below.

Something like that, but injuries to KDB and Foden make him more attractive for the first few games, esp an enticing GW2 captaincy option.

Mahrez has benefitted more from a full pre season and has played well.

Having him for the first 3 games is fine - especially with the plum Norwich fixture.

He's not a long term pick for me anyway but I do think he'll start the first few for City

I prefer Havertz as a punt around that price.

Everton seem to have lost some of their best creative players and only replaced them with average players like Townsend, and I read above dcl could also be struggling, is anyone else a bit worried about their prospects early season despite fixtures ? I suppose digne should still be quite a solid selection although learning toward coufal myself

James I believe has been told he’s not part of the plans

Ok thanks guys. I thought there was enough injury and fitness issues to let him be nailed for a few weeks
