Suspensions

Which FPL players are suspended or nearing a one-match ban?

We’re stepping up the frequency of our Suspension Tightrope articles as we approach Christmas, with the yellow cards steadily racking up for numerous Premier League players and the threat of a one-match ban looming.

There are a grand total of 29 Fantasy Premier League assets (FPL) who are now just one booking away from a ban, while four players were handed their fifth cautions of the campaign at the weekend and will miss Gameweek 16 as a consequence.

The yellow card amnesty is not until after the completion of a team’s 19th league fixture (more on that later), after which the threshold moves up from five to ten bookings.

Those FPL players who are already sitting on three and especially four cautions still have some time before they are in the clear, then.

CURRENTLY SUSPENDED

FPL Gameweek 15 review: 10

Shane Duffy (£4.2m), Sergi Canos (£5.5m) and Southampton pair Mohammed Salisu (£4.5m) and Oriol Romeu (£4.5m) are the four players who will be absent in Gameweek 16 due to yellow card accumulation.

The most notable Fantasy name from that quartet is, of course, Duffy, who still sits in over 18% of FPL squads overall and in around 10% of squads within the top 10,000.

ON FOUR YELLOW CARDS

Raphinha (£6.7m), who features in more than one in five FPL squads overall and in over 60% of the top 10k teams, joined the throng of players on four yellow cards after Gameweek 16 and is now just a booking away from a ban.

Joao Cancelo (£6.8m), Callum Wilson (£7.5m), Bruno Fernandes (£11.6m) and Conor Gallagher (£6.1m) were already walking the tightrope and managed to avoid a caution at the weekend.

There are some notable bench fodder names on the verge of unavailability, too, including Yves Bissouma (£4.4m), Josh Brownhill (£4.4m), Joel Veltman (£4.3m) and Mathias Normann (£4.5m).

ON THREE YELLOW CARDS

There’s less to sweat about if your player is on three bookings: most of them will just have to avoid picking up two bookings in the next four Gameweeks to dodge a ban.

There are 39 players in total on the above list, with owners of Michail Antonio (£7.9m), Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.3m), Bernardo Silva (£7.5m), Reece James (£6.2m) and Marcos Alonso (£5.7m) unlikely to be losing any sleep over their current disciplinary statuses.

WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?

As mentioned in the introduction, the yellow card threshold is raised to ten after a team’s 19th league fixture. That means following the completion of Gameweek 19 for all clubs bar Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley, whose 19th match of the campaign will now fall in Gameweek 20 following last week’s postponement.

Naturally, if there are any further postponements between now and Boxing Day, whether they be weather-related or Covid-enforced, that would affect the above.

The threshold for ten yellow cards is after 32 league matches, which will be April at the earliest.

Players collecting ten bookings before that point will serve a two-game ban.

Punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.

The most important moves this week.
    Get rid of Guaita
Get Ronaldo and mess up my team
Get Bowen for McArthur (I have the Tom)
Shxxt> United fixture is so good.

DDG is the one to get IMO. You have to hedge your bets against Ramsdale now, and DDG is a good bet. In form, utd looking better defensively and they have the fixtures

stay flexible this week. See how Utd do when Rangnick has had a chance to work with the players. If Ronaldo looks good agaijnst Norwich, or Utd look solid at the back, then you can go there

I could have done Kane to Ronaldo last night, but now im priced out. Gives me an opportunity to scout the best Utd assets for one more game. I cant afford my ideal midfield, if I get Ronaldo

May be a player short for next gw with Toney, Williams and Ait Nouri doubts to play, best move here:
    a. Ait Nouri to Davies/Dalot/Lowton
    b. Toney to King (double up with Dennis)

    1. This week for free: Toney and Raph to King/Dennis and Bowen or BSilva?

    2. Also, for this week, keep Vardy and Son or scarify one to get CR7?

    3. Depending on the above, next week: Mbeumo Vardy to Watkins BSilva -4 or Mbeumo Vardy to 4.5mid CR7 -4?

    Decisions, decisions...

Keen to do Toney, Raph, Kane->Ronaldo, Foden, King -4 so I can have this for GW18

    Guaita
    TAA Cancelo James Reguilon Livra
    Salah Jota Gundo Foden Bowen
    Ronaldo King Scarlett

Downside is that I have to play 1 of Reguilon/King/Livra and not sure bench King/Livra is enough for Christmas.
    What do you think?

But I will move Kane anyway, the only question is if I go Ronaldo route ( then definitely -4 now before Norwich) or I downgrade to Antonio before GW18

If you want to have Ronaldo for Norwich then I guess it's good then. The Toney and Raphinha moves is 100% a go for me, not sure if I want to take a hit to ship Kane out before Brighton. Hence my suggestion to hold that move.

Kane's drop priced me out of Kane + Raph -> CR7 + Foden by 0.1. What is my best option now?

    1) Get Bernardo instead of Foden
    2) Downgrade Foster to 3.9 and get Foden
    3) Downgrade someone else?

    Ramsdale Foster
    TAA Cancelo James Rudi Livra
    Salah Jota ESR Raph* Brownhill
    Kane* Antonio Dennis

Yeah Raph is definitely going. Was planning Raph to Foden, and Kane to CR7 but Kane's price drop priced me out now. I might just keep Kane but feels stupid given how many games he has blanked now...

If Grealish goes back to the left, Foden is the best option in the middle. Bilva is an enigma and I honestly don't know

That's true. I notice Grealish was always in the middle in the last game. Not sure what happened there because Foden was in the middle before his injury.

Yes, Bilva is tempting me with his red hot form!

Finding a Toney replacement is looking tricky. Already have Watkins and Dennis.

There are problems with other potential alternatives around that price. Wilson, Bamford, Jimenez and Pukki all have bad fixtures. You never know who is going to line up in attack for Southampton between Adams, Armstrong and Broga which rules all 3 of them out and I dont really want King as it means doubling up on the Watford attack. Dont want a non playing 4.5 player either.

It only really leaves Antonio but his high ownership makes him a very boring pick. Struggling.

      1. TopBinFc

Adams is the most nailed in Southampton, apart from that slim pickings. Antonio safe option albeit boring

You know what I was thinking the same just after I posted. Youre right, there isnt really any reason not to double up. Just a concern though about covid, fixture postponements. Im not a huge fan of having more than one player from the same team unless its City, Liverpool or Chelsea

It's definitely something to think about, and i'm coming around to it. I have Dennis, need a Wilson replacement and of the top page of strikers, King is the cheapest, on pens, with possibly the strongest run of fixtures through to February.

It's a bit easier to suck up a blank from your £5m forwards than it is when your £7-12m ones do it, because your midfield is probably hencher as a result.

I have two FTs planned after tonight's match, but was considering a -4 for Vardy to Ronaldo given that I have the exact cash for those 3 transfers. Ronaldo looks a cert to rise this week, possibly tonight, which would scupper that.

Doesn't every player look worse and play worse in Man U colors?

            (1) Pogba is a World Cup Champion, more titles than every 3-Lion player in the last 50 years. Sucks for Man U
            (2) Sancho was the most desired English player in the Summer, Sucks for Man U
            (3) Lindeloff (?) is a Swedish Captain and a Benfica superstar, Not great at Man U
            (4) Martial was once the black Hazard, not even a regular player at Man U
            (5) Juan Mata, once good enough for Chelsea to sell Salah and then bring Mata

This list could go on for a long time. WBA would be a great pickup for many teams.

              1) PL is just different than national cups
              2) Give him a season, he's been picking up steam lately
              3) Lindelof has been as expected in the PL
              4) Just goes to show how highly skilled the rest of the group is, even the black Hazard doesn't get regular starts
              5) Mata was so good Mourinho didn't dare humiliating the opposition, hence he subbed him in and out in the same game to avoid it

I'd be tempted to WC that.

Moves to be made here? I'm thinking of ditching Vardy & Alonso for Davies & Ronaldo before being priced out (-4 though)

          Sanchez (Steele)
Alonso / Cancelo / TAA (Livra / Johnson)
ESR / Jota / Son / Salah (allan)
          Dennis / Antonio / Vardy
