Suspensions

Which FPL players are nearing a two-match ban?

Our Suspension Tightrope article takes a look at the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) players who are nearing a two-match ban for the accumulation of 10 yellow cards.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF A PLAYER GETS 10 YELLOW CARDS?

Dennis sent off as Watford collapse in FPL Double Gameweek 23 opener 2

Any Fantasy asset who collects 10 cautions in the Premier League before their team has completed 32 fixtures will serve a two-match ban in the same competition.

Beyond that point, the threshold moves up from 10 to 15 bookings. Anyone reaching that tally will be banned for three matches.

Punishments for yellow card accumulation are competition-specific, whereas suspensions for dismissals cover all competitive matches.

PLAYERS ON 8/9 YELLOW CARDS

There isn’t a great deal to worry most Fantasy managers just yet, as all of the above players have ownerships of under 10% in FPL.

The in-form Ruben Neves (£5.3m), whose Wolverhampton Wanderers side are one of just eight clubs in action in Blank Gameweek 30, is just one booking away from a ban, as is the injured Leeds United full-back Junior Firpo (£4.7m).

Matthew Cash (£5.2m), the most-bought defender of Gameweek 30, is among the cluster of FPL assets who are two cautions away from the unwanted target.

Bench fodder options like Josh Brownhill (£4.3m), Oriol Romeu (£4.5m) and Yves Bissouma (£4.4m) are also part of this group on eight bookings.

WHEN ARE THE CUT-OFF POINTS FOR SUSPENSIONS?

As we mentioned in the introduction, the yellow card threshold is raised to 15 after a team’s 32nd league fixture.

That doesn’t necessarily mean Gameweek 32, however. In fact, for many clubs, this will mean Gameweek 33 or later due to the backlog of postponed fixtures.

Keep your eyes peeled on our Suspension Tightrope widget on our home page over the coming weeks and months, as we’ll be updating that after every Gameweek to keep you informed on the latest disciplinary developments.

I'd let the bookies decide this one for you. Wolves are 6/5 to win and Brentford are 11/4. Jimenez anytime scorer odds are 6/4 while Toney's are 9/5.

      Jimmy.

I'd just go Salah to Son, or Salah broja to Kane and a cheap guy, Ramsey or Eriksen or whatever you can afford. Don't think a hit for any defender is worth it this week.

Advice appreciated chaps - 1 FT, 1M ITB, no FH or WC left.

    Ramsdale
    Saiss, Doherty, Digne*
    Kulusevski, Saka, Ramsey
    Kane, Watkins

(Foster, Salah, Havertz, TAA, Robertson, Broja)

    A) Digne -> Cash
    B) Digne -> Tierney/Gabriel
    C) Broja & Digne -> Toney & White (-4)

Edging towards C? Arsenal fixtures look better than Villa and keen to get rid of Digne & Broja...

    Cheers!

I would be tempted to roll actually (or do Digne to say Coady for one week only). In order to do Digne to James in 31 and attack the final fixtures with a better squad

Oops thought Digne was 5.3 for some reason. James price should fall while wolves defenders rise so still should have option to keep saiss and go Digne - Coady - James if preferred

Thanks, appreciated. I'm 0.2 off Coady/Digne -> James currently but perhaps James falls twice before then. I'd be OK keeping Coady over Saiss anyway to be honest.

            Salah, Havertz, Kulusevski, Saka, Ramsey
            Kane, Watkins

            (Foster, Broja, Coady/Saiss, Doherty)

Yes - Fofana will likely take his place. Looks like he will play some part on Sunday but I'd expect it'll be a sub appearance so Amartey should start. but it looks unlikely he'll be first choice from GW31 onwards.

Which option(s) is best for 30. Is a hit to do both, and get 9players, or just the 8 with FT.

    A) Barnes
    B) Martinelli
    C)Raphina

    1)Lacazette
    2)Toney
    3)Jimi

Can't do the 2 arsenal players, as have Saka and Ramsdale already.

Thinking C1 might be worth the -4 longer term.

C1 probably looks the best, but I'm not sure about Raph. I've owned him for most of the season and he is still to return a double figure haul. Furthermore, over the last few weeks he's not looked that great - mostly due to how poor Leeds are as a whole.
A1 could be a more exciting option with Leic having 3 games to re-arrange. But I'm not sure on Barnes either 🙂

Assuming Digne is out, I will have 9 starters. My main issue is I have Son (c) and no Kane which going by last few gw's where i have suffered for not having the right captain (Bruno, James). So

A: Save FT. Play with 9 starters and switch Son > Kane for free in gw31
    B: Digne >> Thomas..10 starters with Son (c). Son >> Kane (-4) in gw31
    C: Robbo + Son + Broja >> Thomas + Barnes + Kane (-8). 11 starters with Kane (c). Means no Robbo in gw31

What are peoples thoughts on a cheap Leic defender to hold on to until the end of the season - considering that I could do with replacing Digne and that Leic have 3 games that still need re-arranging.
I obviously realise that Leic DF has been shocking, but I was thinking that someone like Justin or Pereira might get some attacking returns and a small chance of cleanies?

Yeah, it’s definitely tempting. Like you say their defence has been awful. Their fixtures are very decent as well (especially with games to be added). Main consideration for me would be whether blocking option to get 3 from midfield and attack would be a problem. And I think the answer’s probably no.

      1. thegaffer82
        • 12 Years

I'll definitely be getting an attacker once we know when their DGW's will be added.
But I do wonder which DFer to go for... Justin is a big risk, but will have a lot of attacking upside if he can secure his spot again

Who are you planning to captain this week? Have Kane as template option but I'm tempted by Saka since Villa's narrow 4312 can leave their FBs a bit exposed & I like the idea of a sprightly Saka running at Ashley Young

As I'm without Kane, I'm torn between Saka (for the reasons you mention - and the way Arsenal totally overwhelmed Leicester at times) vs Son to cover Kane as much as possible. I'm also contemplating Martinelli: GW30 could be a good time to go with a (somewhat) differential option at captain given the paucity of games and potential returns. Of course, given that margins are tight and there are only a couple of standout options, it might be a bad time to take a punt if - say - Kane hauls.

Unless I go with Toney, of course...

The idea is to get Son, although I already have Kane and Kulu.

I think with Kane and Kulu you have enough coverage for spurs. I think you could better distribute the funds to the other two positions and make solid gains - Toney, Barnes and Tierney could be a very solid trio (if you don't already have them) or Lacazette for Toney depending on funds.

That said, WH are defensively weaker on Son's flank... best of luck whatever decision you make mate!

Leeds score and your defence is busted but a cs = 18 pts and that’s the way to play it imo, Tierney to Doherty with same logic (I.e coutinho and Tierney can’t both “win”)

If they're totally left-field points then fair enough but it's hardly jam if they've made considered risks/gambles given the Cancelo situation.

getting bench points for a Cancelo no show is pure jam

We knew there was a good chance he'd be out though so many planned for that, e.g. Cancelo/James situation tipped me over to getting Doherty for short-term cover

it’s quality jam, 14 points for a defender off the bench for a player like Cancelo that you would never bench is just filth 🙂

you have a core of players that you never bench, so getting a 14 pointer off the bench for them is very very lucky …

My recent bench boost of Sanchez, Cancelo, Antonio & Foden (had double game players ahead of them) gave me 6 points … and in the last 2 weeks have had Saka 12 & Ramsey 10 on my bench …. where was my jam ? 😉

Coady ain't made of no jam! Tbf I'm probably one of the more jammy ones with Gelhardt 1st bench but it was a somewhat calculated switch from Broja

that's what a bench is for.

I have Ramsey and Kilman on my bench. Sadly Broja is blocking them...

My guess is not once you hit the confirm transfer button.

What option to take for next GW?
    A) Maupay/Weghorst -> Toney (FT)
    B) the above plus a hit?
    C) FH (have 2 still)
    D) another option?

Currently have this for Gw30 (with 1 FT and 1 mill in the bank) :

    Ramsdale
    White
    Son Kulu Coutinho Saka

Not playing: Gunn; TAA, Cancelo, Laporte, T.Silva, Salah, Maupay, Weghorst, Broja

Would you FH this? (Still has 2 x FH but no BB or TC)

    No GK
    Tierney White RAN Dier
    Son Ramsey

Got 1FT so could have 8 players without a hit (which I would be reluctant to take)

Wolves/Leicester players. Could easily get a far better team on a FH, question is more if it's worth it.

I'll FH in DGW36 I'm sure, but not sure if my other FH is best deployed this GW or not.

Or Ramsdale as a great GK option for the rest of the season. Although probably not with the triple up you'd have at the back

Cheers. I'm really 50/50 about it.

Obvious use of FT would be Willock -> Martinelli. Not keen on trip Arsenal def, and can't stretch to Saka or Maddison/Barnes.

So gives me without a hit
      No GK
      Tierney, White, RAN, Dier
      Son, Ramsey, Martinelli
      Kane

Looking to take a -4 to field 11, and thoughts on my two potential transfers?

    Ramsdale
    Tierney, dier, kilman
    Saka, kuluv, coutinho, raphina
    Kane

    Bench, Salah, Trent, broja

    Injured: hwang, James

    James+hwang to jiminez and 6.1m (max)defender?

Don't see any other strikers worth keeping that play gw30.
