FPL team guides: Brentford – Best players, predicted line-up + more

Gameweek 1 of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) is drawing ever nearer and we’re profiling all 20 Premier League teams before the season starts.

After weighing up what Arsenal and Aston Villa players have to offer, we continue our team-by-team guides with Brentford.

The attacking statistics for Brentford very much rank in mid-table, which isn’t bad for a newly-promoted side making their Premier League debut.

However, their year splits into life with and without Christian Eriksen (£6.5m). His Gameweek 28 debut followed a terrible run of nine defeats from 11 matches, totalling just four points and six goals in those months.

Until Gameweek 27, the Bees were down in 17th place for total shots and 15th for goals scored.

Eriksen’s arrival sparked a late-season revival of seven wins and 21 goals but, now that the Dane has departed for Manchester United, we don’t know how good Brentford will be in their second campaign.

Headline-making victories came against Arsenal on the opening Friday, plus a 4-1 win away to Chelsea. Also impressive was doing the double over West Ham United.

Again, Brentford’s numbers line up slightly better than their 13th-placed finish.

Most of their season was played with a back-three system, which might explain why they ranked eighth-best for conceding shots inside the penalty area. They were seventh-best at allowing attempts from the left flank but 13th for those down the right.

Three of their nine clean sheets arrived within the first five outings, catching FPL managers off-guard. Of course, those who then bought a defensive asset had to wait until Gameweeks 13 and 25 for the next pair.

From Brentford defenders, only Chelsea scored more than their 13 – which includes the three of reclassified Sergi Canos (£5.0m). Add this to defensive assists and they are the best outside of last season’s top four (25).

Pontus Jansson (£4.5m) lead the way for matches started, with 37, while Rico Henry (£4.5m) and Ethan Pinnock (£4.5m) follow with 33 and 32.

OPENING FIXTURES

The opening run of Brentford fixtures is very generous, avoiding all of last season’s top four until Gameweek 12.

In fact, starting from Gameweek 3, they top our Season Ticker all the way up to Gameweek 16.

      To be fair that look pretty good.
      If Martinelli holds a spot and progresses again this year he could be great value. Bailey is probably even riskier but I presume Neco and Pereira are the bench cover if required. I would normally suggest Ramsdale to a 4.5 and get a 5.5 mid. But pretty limited options at 5.5.

      It’s fun been able to get some more picks you really want. Teams are still different enough that they did not get the pricing “wrong” - think it’s quite fun be able to pick a few more ones you really want without the overall balance suffering too much.

      At this stage, all initially
      James - worried he’ll play RCB and want to see some form from Chelsea
      Haaland - rather start with KDB at the moment, community shield may change that though
      Perisic - could be a great pick but may need patience as he’ll be rotated
      Diaz - Salah & Trent are all but Locks in my side, and I think for 3rd Liverpool spot Robertson or VVD offer better value for less

                They had their best performance Vs Leeds and also beat wolves, then Ronaldo joined ruined the dynamic made it so everybody lost confidence and the whole team was structured to make him score goals and admittedly if he didn't play, they didn't win. That said he missed some big games too with an "injury" but then seemed to recover for a Norwich 3 days later

      RMT prefer Salah but Kane's form is awesome. He even let Son take penalty in friendly games. (He should have more goals then).

        Personally i’m on Kane for GW1. Definitely not ruling out the switch in GW2, but let’s not pretend that Kane can’t score against anyone. Chelsea aren’t exactly rock solid defensively, and it would not suprise me if we found ourselves in a position where many sell Kane for Haaland in GW2 and Kane bags against Chelsea

        I'd say an 8.0 and a 5.5 partly because I think it gives the most options:

        Saka/Mount/Diaz/Foden/Mahrez/Maddison
        +
        Neto/Wissa/Gordon

            I hope Grealish has a good season but the City attack is always a bit of a rotation and points-sharing minefield. And I actually prefer the options at 5.5 to any of those. Lanzini too who is being overlooked but may well be on penalties.
