The usual Scout Squad foursome of Sam, Neale, Tom and Az are back for 2022/23.

Each week, they’ll be discussing the best Fantasy Premier League (FPL) goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and forwards for the upcoming Gameweek.

No fewer than seven players have been given universal backing for the opening weekend, to make Friday’s final Scout Picks selection all the more tricky.

In this series, our four resident Fantasy Football Scout contributors each propose an 18-man squad of Fantasy players with the focus solely on the upcoming Gameweek.

Their selections serve as a long list for the Scout Picks, as the players nominated will then be narrowed down to a squad of 15 (with the starting XI not exceeding a total cost of £83.0m) for our final weekly selection ahead of Friday’s deadline.

Each writer must meet the following requirements:

  • At least one sub-£5.0m goalkeeper
  • At least one sub-£5.0m defender
  • At least one sub-£6.0m midfielder
  • At least one sub-£7.0m forward
  • No more than three players from the same club

    Considering taking Digne over Cash. Squad is looking fairly template so that would make him a bit of a differential for me. Digne seems more of an injury risk, but I only plan on holding either Villa def until GW4 so shouldn't be a problem.

    What pros/cons would you put on either or would you say its basically a coin flip?

      wouldn't go Zaha given his fixtures, I don't see Mahrez starting either, he was rubbish in the shield games. There are other things I would change but they're personal preferences really

    Would you chaps recommend trimming around the edges to get a 3rd striker playing, i.e. Wilson.

    In the below drafts, I have Wilson in option 1 courtesy of 2 x LEI keepers and a cheaper defence which is still decent.

    In option 2 I have 2 up top but a pricier back line and better keeper combo (plus L.Diaz to another 8.0 so I can have Robbo).

    I have had option 2 for a while now, but I quite like option 1 after a bit of tinkering.
