Allsvenskan Fantasy

Allsvenskan Fantasy: All you need to know

What?

Allsvenskan Fantasy is a game where you score points based on the actual events in the games of the Swedish top division, Allsvenskan.

The game is built on the same platform as Fantasy Premier League, so FPL players will feel at home in the user interface right off the bat.

The point scoring system is a bit different though, which we’ll cover on a high level shortly.

Why?

Why should you sign up for the 2024 season of Allsvenskan Fantasy? Let me give you a list of the top 10 reasons to join… and three not to:

  1. The bonus points system is top-notch, they’ve put a lot of love into making it interesting not just in terms of the regular goals, assists and clean sheets. Defenders are fun to own as a result, and some reach as high as 8.0m in price and still provide value!
  2. Creative players who don’t always register an assist, and defensively-minded players who do well on clearances, blocks, interceptions or recoveries, are all much more interesting because of the bonus point system.
  3. The chips are varied and powerful; more on that in the “How” section.
  4. Deadlines are five minutes before the start of the first game of the Gameweek. That means we always get a minimum of two team lineups, sometimes up to eight! No more waiting for dodgy leaks and running around in panic trying to determine the accuracy of the leaks.
  5. Sweden is currently the only country among Europe’s 30 highest-ranked leagues that has NOT decided to introduce VAR. The fact that they have not done so is largely due to their democratic model, where the club members (regular supporters) are actively pushing back against it. That’s right, VAR is not going to be stealing your Fantasy points any time soon! Relieve the old-fashioned joy of a goal being scored without waiting a minute to find out if it indeed actually was scored, or not.
  6. The league kicks off now on March 30 and ends in November. That means your summer is now rescued and you don’t have to spend it on your own, making imaginary FPL drafts with made-up prices for a game yet to launch. You know who you are, and you need this to save you from yourself.
  7. The people running the game have set up a Discord Server where – you guessed it – Allsvenskan Fantasy is discussed around the clock! They’ve ensured there is a channel devoted to English speakers to obsess about the game as well without the added hassle of having to pick up the Swedish language. You may be tempted to do so regardless once you get into it though. The game itself is also available fully in English.
  8. The old Scout (hey now, not THAT old, if I was a football player I’d still be in full swing… buuut likely past my peak and learning to adapt to the apparent lack of pace) will be popping up here and there, ensuring you’re not left out in the Swedish cold without some friendly words of wisdom and a nice warm fika.
  9. Signing up means creating a “football account” which is a single sign on feature that also enables you to access free video content like goals and match highlights from Allsvenskan and Superettan on https://fotbollplay.se/.
  10. If you’ve read this far without quitting the article I’m not sure you really need more reasons to join but Allsvenskan is a great league to watch and despite some teams clearly being favourites to clinch the title, it’s always very open and any team can beat anyone on their day.

Reasons not to join Allsvenskan Fantasy for the 2024 season:

  1. You don’t like fun and fear that this game might be dangerously close to exactly that.
  2. Also, how dare the author insinuate that your favourite summer pastime of meticulously planning out what FPL team you can put together if player X comes in at Y price is time wasted? The absolute nerve of some people…
  3. You’ve already had it up to here with Fantasy games until August (and or/this text) and feel like it’s too much to take in right now. In which case I say that’s fair but I implore you to still just give it a casual try and worst case, you have a beautifully rendered ghost ship sailing out into the sunset to meet you on the other side in 2025. Or never again. Wow, that’s bleak. On to more positive thoughts!

When?

The season starts this Saturday, March 30, at 14.55 CET.

You will have the confirmed lineups of the game IFK Norrköping-Malmö FF to take into account for Gameweek 1.

The latter is last year’s title winner who plays in sky blue and has a flair for scoring many goals but also rotating the players and ensuring you are always kept on your toes scanning for lineups. Sound familiar?

How?

It’s really not that complex if you’re familiar with FPL, Eliteserien Fantasy or any other major fantasy football game but let’s get into some of the key things that set it apart.

Bonus point system

Bonus points are a big part of the game and as alluded to earlier, they work a bit differently in Allsvenskan Fantasy. On average in 2023, each game ended with roughly 16 bonus points earned between the two teams in the match, which is significantly higher than in FPL.

The formula for bonus points is as follows:

Attacking bonus points: 1 point for every 2 key passes (a key pass is one that leads to a shot at goal).

Defensive bonus points: 1 point for every 8 clearances, blocks, interceptions or recoveries (total).

No bonus points for goalkeepers: Goalkeepers can’t be awarded attacking or defensive bonus points.

Maximum bonus points: Each player can be awarded a maximum of 2 attacking bonus points and 2 defending bonus points in a game.

There is no limit on maximum bonus points awarded to a specific team, or within a specific game. In other words, a game can contain (theoretically) anywhere from 0 to 80+ bonus points, but the average is roughly 16 bonus points per game. An individual player can get anywhere between 0-4 bonus points per game.

For example, if a player made 6 key passes, his total attacking bonus points will be 2. If in the same game he also made 12 clearances, blocks or interceptions and recovered 12 balls, his total defending bonus will be 2. Overall, 4 bonus points will be added to his total for the match.

Main differences in point scoring overall
  • Heavier emphasis on bonus points.
  • Goalkeepers get no bonus points but get 5 points for a clean sheet, defenders 4 points, and midfielders 1 point.
  • Goalkeepers get save points every 2 saves rather than 3 which is the standard.
  • Goalkeepers also get -1 point for each goal conceded after the first 2 goals conceded. As an example, conceding 5 goals gives a hefty -4 subtracted from the goalkeeper’s points!
  • Forwards get 5 points for every goal scored, just like midfielders.
  • The player who scores the winning goal gets 1 extra point. Winning goal = the second goal scored for the home team in a 2-1 win, or the first goal for the home team in a 2-0 win.
Chips

Other than the standard two Wildcards over 30 Gameweeks, there are three additional chips:

  • Park the Bus: Double points for all defenders that Gameweek.
  • Dynamic Duo: Both your Captain and Vice Captain score triple points that Gameweek.
  • Loan Rangers: Make unlimited free transfers and choose how many players you want from a specific team for a single round (the cap of three players from a single team is removed). At the next deadline, your squad is returned to how it was at the start of the Gameweek.

As mentioned above (but also here if you just skipped past all my well-thought-out and lavishly explained reasons to play the game you “TL;DR”-afflicted person… the joke’s still on you for getting stuck in this way too extended parenthesis), there is a channel in there where Allsvenskan Fantasy is discussed in English. Here is a formal invitation.

Another great article, Meltens, following on from TM's Eliteserien guide. FPL could learn a thing or two!

Nice article, Petter! Didn’t know about that free video content! Makes me excited for the new season - can’t believe it will be my fourth already.

One minor correction - you’ve got the Dynamic Duo chip title on the Loan Rangers description and vice versa.

Oh my, you are completely right! My bad, thanks for pointing it out 🙂 I’ve asked them to edit but in the meantime here’s the correct version:

Loan Rangers: Make unlimited free transfers and choose how many players you want from a specific team for a single round (the cap of three players from a single team is removed). At the next deadline, your squad is returned to how it was at the start of the Gameweek.

Thanks Meltens. A really interesting & funny read. Never again will I spend the summer 'making imaginary FPL drafts with made-up prices'!

Researching Eliteserien has been more fun than I've had in FPL for ages actually, but I think that draft is fairly settled now so I'll see if I have time for a more casual dabble with my Scandi neighbours

Got most of a draft together. Who do you think will start up front for Elfsborg? Is Abdulai too punty?

Tbh I don't like the forwards situation at Elfsborg. You'd think Abdulai gets most of the starts, but the coach seems to like them both. I see a lot of 60/30 splits in the future there.. Prefer Salech in that range!

Cheers. What do you make of Bergvall? Did well in some recent cup games but not much more to go on besides transfermarkt's valuation & suggestion that he'll be a Spurs player next season. Hype justified?

My 1st draft (before reworking from your comments - may try to squeeze Abdulai up to Hümmet):

            Sidklev (V. Andersson)
Busanello Rösler V. Larsson (Johansson 4.0)
            Nanasi Modesto Bergvall Persson (Gustavsson)
            Bottheim Pittas Abdulai

Oh I'm a big fan of Bergvall nowadays (I didn't get the hype last season tbh), and he's actually already signed for Spurs but will join them in the summer so after Round 12. Current issue is he got a pretty bad knock in the U21 for the National Team which is still to be assessed, unless we hear positive concrete news there I would wait and see. But he's quality, not 100% sure it will translate to a bunch of points and he's still young and the type of player to be targeted by defenders who like to slide in for a tackle. Can see him scoring a few but also going down a lot after tough challenges.

I think most of the squad is good but there are some adjustments I would look into such as Krasniqi (GAIS GK) or stretch to Rönning (5.0m at Halmstad nowadays). In the 5.0m def category I like A Lindahl now at Häcken, previously attacking defender for Kalmar. The competition for his spot are all out injured so should get a good run for an attacking team with good fixtures.

Defenders always does very well in Allsvenskan Fantasy so I'd also not be afraid to spend a bit more there and downgrade the strikers/go with just 2 strikers and get in an extra premium defender. Players like Stryger Larsen, Hult, Dahl, Danielson all have a lot of potential for bonus points and attacking returns as well, even if you ignore the CS.

Maybe I'll downgrade Bergvall for now then especially since Persson is also flagged. Will have a look again at the defence too - I do really like the bonus system. Thanks for the tips!

Bergvall apparently back in full training! Make of that what you will. I don't hate having Saletros over him first 2 and then evaluating, AIK's first two games screams goals.

People more knowledgable about Elfsborg than me also rate Abdulai very high so might be worth that punt despite the game time issue...

Ooh ok, I generally love a risky punt on a high ceiling, low owned youngster so maybe I'll give him a whirl then. Nice opening fixtures (I think? At least 3-4/5) & I wasn't too sure about IFE mids (maybe Hedlund / A. Zeneli but they're pretty expensive)

Yeah, I like the first 6 in terms of attacking potential mostly. Should score in most games regardless of who wins it I reckon.

Struggling to stretch to another 7m+ def unless I downgrade Pittas / Nanasi. Nanasi seems relatively nailed for a rotation-prone side & I'm happy to splash the funds on Malmö as they rack up some enormous victories. Could go with Saletros instead of Pittas maybe (with formation shift)?

However, the 4.5-5m mids look nicer subs than the cheap forwards. Was thinking maybe a 433 is viable with Stensson & Gustavsson on the bench (decent bonus magnets)?

Was looking at Thychosen (seems quite attacking) & Jensen (BP). Maybe the latter is too expensive for a BP defender? But scores very highly for key passes. I could bench him for AIK/Hacken but maybe in the other fixtures he has good haul potential?

Coming around to Naeem Mohammed more and more myself at 6.5m forward, Halmstad. He had 0.44xG/90 despite not taking any pens, and Halmstad look more attacking than defensive these days.

Jensen - to me it's too much for the likely upside, and Irandust might eat into his set pieces and creative stats. Fixtures are horrible at the start. Would rather Christensen for 0.5m less if keeping with Brommapojkarna, or Gefvert with set pieces at Västerås and a very attacking position on the pitch. But for me Lindahl still seems like a bargain at 5.0m RB for Häcken.

AIK defenders I'm the wrong person to ask unfortunately, haven't had a proper look once Milosevic was an unlikely feature from the start otherwise I'd have liked him.

Cheers. BP dismissed then. I stuck Lindahl in on the last update, so on Busanello, Lindahl, Thychosen + 1. Will keep tinkering & probably find a way to stretch to Danielson

Reasonably content with this I think:

                        Krasniqi
                        Busanello Thychosen Lindahl
                        Nanasi Modesto Saletros Persson
                        Botheim Hümmet Abdulai
                        (Andersson, Gustavsson, V. Larsson, Calisir)

That all looks great with one caveat - Hümmet stepped off training today with a minor fitness issue, coach seems hopeful he's still able to start but just want to flag it up in case nothing new breaks ahead of deadline. Bergvall declared fully fit meanwhile.

Hi Petter, apologies I didn't get back to you last week, real life and real work caught up with me, probably just as well as it stopped me tinkering up to the deadline. Happy with 77 pts to start with and happier with a 10 point head start on you! Long way to go. Got my keepers wrong, neither of them played so a quick transfer was in order for GW 2. Think I'll take a punt on my captain for GW 2, Engvall at home to GAIS rather than Botheim.

77 points is massive, nicely done! I'm happy with 67 as well, fine margins. A bit annoyed at having Bergvall up until the day of the deadline instead of J Persson, but that also allowed me to get Salech instead of Mohammed so net like 2 minus points or something 🙂

I don't know about Engvall tbh, 0.06xGi and GAIS are unlikely to get caught out like that again.

      Help required.

Have done ok this week for a first time Allsvenskan player. Managed to beat the average by a few points despite only playing with ten men. I’ll take that and head off to GW2.

However, I dropped a clanger when choosing 4.5 Tannander who I thought was first choice keeper for Sirius. Being short of funds I also picked 4.0 Cilic his presumed deputy.

Guess what? Someone called Mitov Nilsson was between the sticks today. Of course to rub salt in the wound Sirius don’t concede. Can we assume that Nilsson is now first choice going forward? I have zero ITB so cannot upgrade Cilic to a regular keeper.

So, looks like I will be forced to do a goalkeeper transfer as early as GW2. Not ideal. Any help would be appreciated.

In regards gk issue just checked the scoring and there was a 4 mil playing Anderson got no idea. If he is first choice but if is your only issue could be worth going for he got 3pts

Thanks. Think I will just bring in Nilsson for Tannander and hope the Sirius coach doesn’t do the opposite! Rest of squad looking ok really.

Do prices change daily in Allsvenskan fantasy as in FPL or is there a sort of weekly price review that some games use?

Been no price rises yet unlike in Eliteserien where they happen quick..

Hi! Price changes daily just like in FPL. Worth monitoring in terms of price drops but there aren't really any good sites for that, yet. Some speculate in different thresholds but if I find something more concrete, I can share it. Low owned player = big swings up and down in general, particularly down as it doesn't take so many managers losing faith.

Also Värnamo GK at 4.0m is only playing because Rasheed is injured, unlikely to keep his spot for the long run. Rasheed should be back in a couple of weeks last I heard.

Mitov Nilsson is first choice, contract is running out this summer but both parties seem keen to get an extension in place. Slim pickings at 4.5m, most seems to have favoured Krasniqi which didn't go too well this week but might have legs down the line. Other than Mitov there is Fagerström at Västerås who I think might be a sneaky shout, don't think they'll get pummeled to often as they're actually quite good for a newcomer.

                Hi Meltens

Schoolboy error of mine not noticing that Sirius had 3 goalkeepers registered in Allsvenskan fantasy.

Thanks for the advice. Brought Nilsson in today. Apart from that really enjoyed my first ever week in Allsvenskan & Eliteserien. Have tried Bundesliga & Serie A fantasy in the past but didn’t enjoy all that much so I don’t bother with those anymore.

Actually playing MLS fantasy as well this season with unlimited transfers every week which is unusual. Prices are extremely volatile which can be seen from the fact that my team value in that game is already at 120 million up from 100 million in just 6 weeks! Crazy. Lots of games are played in the middle of the night UK time, which makes it less attractive for those of us in Europe.

Anyway, good luck for the season ahead. It’s good to have a forum like this where we can share ideas and obtain answers to questions.

Any obvious issues here? Think I'll just roll for now. Thychosen didn't feature & Kraniqi might have been a bad pick in goal but have decent cover for both.

      V. Andersson
      Busanello Lindahl Thychosen
      Nanasi (K) Modesto Saletros Persson
      Botheim Hümmet Abdulai

Could change out Person as he was taken off after 78 mins with no involvement to someone else who got some points and potentially have some money in the bank to upgrade else where .Just an idea

Cheers mate. Not sure who to target as a replacement just yet except the Djurgarden mids who I haven't quite decided between so I think I'll give him one more then reassess Gulliksen / Bergvall / Leach Holm

I’ve got the last 2 you mentioned as sure someone said they were on set pieces and both got returns too.

I'd wait, Joakim Persson just got back from a minor fitness issue and Sirius overall looked great. Kalmar (and in particular their GK) had a shocker against Hammarby defensively so I'm hopeful of more returns for my double up of JP + Salech in GW2 🙂

Bergvall though - wow! What a player. No set pieces but an absolute menace, 7 shots (2 on target). He's likely coming in GW3 for me, just need to give my lads one more chance as 1 GW is a terribly small sample size 😉

Any moves you're looking to make or sitting steady in the boat for now?

My biggest concern was the lack of shots and how wide Djuka looked, also hooked at 59 mins wasn't great with Malmö away coming up. It's a pickle, as I feel a straight swap to Bergvall makes a LOT of sense both immediately and long term, but Djuka is "my guy" and I love to watch him play, despite all his faults haha.

If I'm able to hold firm the plan is to do absolute nothing, as intended, and have 2 frees and a clearer picture next week. All in all squad is in good shape and not panicking about anything on my end. What are you pondering for GW2?

Holding course for now. I almost never make GW2 transfers in any fantasy game, except Eliteserien where I'm contemplating a -8 to fix an injury and a surprise return from injury that have left me 2 starters short already 🙄

I caved to instinct and got Bergvall in for Djuka ahead of GW2. It feels like one of those transfers I'll keep pushing up and losing points on otherwise. We only have until the summer before Bergvall leaves for Spurs anyway.

Basically Bergvall is everything Djuka is for 1 million less, with a more secure spot in the 11 and a more functioning team around him, a better assist potential and better fixtures. I was sort of held hostage by the GW1 fixture and my love for Djuka but I will try to just appreciate the player without having him in fantasy 🙂

One round is awfully little to go on, obviously. A few things I thought stuck out still:

Bergvall looked electric, the RC for Göteborg helped of course but 7 shots (2 on target), a goal and looked very involved much like in pre-season. He's already highly owned but will likely pick up even more steam very soon if he continues like that.

Djukanovic was very wide, only 1 shot and hooked on the infamous 59 minute mark. A sign of things to come or a one-off performance? I didn't like what I was seeing and fixtures continue to be challenging short term. Erabi started on the bench but came on and had a lively performance, back to starting Round 2?

Malmö put on a big showing and scored 5 goals from an xG of 3,46. Some offside calls will be discussed and Norrköping was a tad unlucky at times, but overall a confident marker and Hammarby should be very worried for Round 2. Nanasi and IKT the likely the biggest captaincy shouts? Don't forget about Bergvall and Pittas though...

GAIS got pummeled result wise but not stats-wise, 1.33 xG - 1.79xG. It's clear they need to adapt to the league a bit though, expect more normal results once they get the hang of it.

Västerås not your average promoted squad, kept the pace with AIK for large slates of time and lost with the honour intact. I have a feeling we will be looking to increase our ownership there once the fixtures ease up a bit.

We'll the AIK team before the deadline, so I'll probably downgrade Tychosen to a Mjällby defender if he's not starting again. Owned him last year and it was a similar story but remember he did quite well after I sold him.

Feel like I can hold fire on other transfers with perhaps the four best teams playing each other this week.

Another good article I missed before the start. As ever this is my favourite bonus points system. My Loan Rangers chip last year was even worse than FH29 in FPL. Love the variety in people's teams early on this season, not dictated by any early DGWs and real premium options in every position so you can't afford them all. Wouldn't be surprised if the golden boot race is between the two Malmö strikers.

      Rönning
      J Larsson, Danielson, Hovland, Tychosen
      Layouni, Skrabb, Romeo, Persson
      Botheim (K), Faraj

Brattberg; Cooper Love, Berg Johnsen, Baffoe

No GK first week was annoying and came out of nowhere, all I could find was one comment on Twitter saying Rönning was expecting a baby. Danielson saving my GW.

Cheers mate! Liam Rangers now keeps the regular captaincy so that’s a nice change 🙂

I still believe Pittas will come good over the course of the season, that said not sure he’s going to be a must have by any means. But I can see him and IKT competing for the golden boot, if Pittas doesn’t leave in the summer.

Rönning - I had him most of preseason but switched due to the baby timeframe. It felt like an unnecessary risk with an away game 2 days before estimated delivery date. Should have flagged it up but I guess you wouldn’t have seen it anyway :/

I’ll patrol FFS and the new official Discord server as well, link above

hi - grateful for any advice please - I'd like a new forward, 7.0Mkr or so, regular starter etc.; on the small sample size available I'm choosing between Salech (IKS), Zeljkovic (IKFV) and Faraj (AIK) who have all started very well and have broadly similar (i.e. mixed) fixtures ahead - any advice on those three before I stick a pin in the list? I vaguely think AIK will do better than the other two but with Pittas in the team perhaps Faraj won't always play. Salech is the highest % selected and the most transferred in of the three (and so is now up to 7.1Mkr) so maybe that's the way to go.

Thanks! He was third on my so-called list - I hadn’t realised he takes penalties too. I might well lean the pin his way.

Little bit tempted by a WC, or just a mini-WC / -8 to put all my money into triple Malmö attack (Thielin, Botheim, Nanasi) & reorganise my defence a bit.

Anything to be wary of with an early WC, scheduling-wise in particular? I know in Eliteserien there's 2 small summer breaks and potentially some big name transfers out around June/July
