Basking in the glow of a sensational Gameweek 8 score, many of the community were still counting up their goals and assists long after the final whistle last Sunday. We glance back at another sensational display from Sergio Aguero and Southampton’s players and look ahead to the coming Gameweeks, with hidden Fantasy gems and new managerial appointments dominating discussion. Elsewhere, we catch up on the latest Members tables as well as find out what effect last weekend’s goalfest had on our community tournaments.

The Community Articles

Swansea’s dip in form while Tottenham and Crystal Palace’s ability to finally find their feet this season are the key issues discussed in Rakkhi’s team trends analysis of the first eight Gameweeks.

Congratulations to The 3rd Turd whose analysis of Fantasy Football radars and bubbles have earned him £20 Amazon voucher after winning the Community article of the month vote for September.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Liverpool’s sacking of Brendan Rodgers and wooing of former Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp was amongst the hot topics discussed during this week’s international break. Berbinho’s Forehead’s focus was on Rodgers differences with Liverpool’s transfer committee, while Numb pondered whether Klopp will flop.

Meanwhile, Theo Walcott was dramatically dumped by John Terry’s Dog as his affections move across the capital to West Ham’s Dimitri Payet. His break up letter to the Arsenal man proved a real tearjerker.

Trigg has been asking which have been the community’s worst transfers. Could dumping Walcott be added to that list when it is refreshed in a few Gameweeks time?

There may be some more broken hearts should the community’s hidden gems for the coming Gameweeks fail to shine.

Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand was among the key names mentioned as differential prospects and was also discussed in Rodellegabomb’s hot topic on the Saints more settled backline.

For the second year running, Gameweek 8 proved pivotal to many of our community who backed Southampton’s assets, as well as Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero with the captain’s armband. Last season Aguero scored four against Tottenham, while Southampton humiliated Sunderland. Both were at it again this season, with the Argentine striker scoring five against Newcastle and Southampton putting Chelsea to the sword. A more detailed look back at what was a week to savour for many can be found in Your Mum’s Athletic’s latest What the Bookies say update.

The spooky coincidence of Gameweek 8’s repeated success for many of our community also sparked a discussion on other illogical Fantasy Football folklores.

In the more immediate future, though, Aguero owners are facing a nervous wait to see the extent of an injury picked up while on international duty for Argentina. Here we look at some of the potential scenarios and contingency plans should he face a lengthy lay-off.

Another star of Gameweek 8 was Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen. His two wonder free-kicks against Swansea inspired Demi to start a discussion on Europe’s best free kick specialists.

Amongst the community, EnglishNo7 was one of the biggest beneficiaries of Gameweek 8’s goal-a-thon. He finds himself at the top of the Fantasy Premier League Fantasy Football Scout league and dropped by to deliver some words of wisdom for his fellow Fantasy managers.

Finally, while FPL is the main game for much of our community there are plenty of other Fantasy Football games out there, from weekly contests to draft games. Here the community offered their thoughts on coping with the multi-Fantasy football experience.

The Members Tables

For those eyeing up Southampton players, I’ve made this table looking at their key attacking assets. Elsewhere, Doosra has made this table looking at this season’s best deadball specialists and the Sportsguy has turned to shots on target to find the brightest midfield diamonds.

Giggs Boson has been looking at those players that are scoring well from few opportunities or shots on target. There was further discussion around this ‘lethal or imposter’ table and the ways it can be interpreted here.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

There were some huge scores in round 2 of Jaffalicious’s FFS UEFA Champions League style tournament, according to his latest update.

Niclas Andersson’s tally of 118 in Gameweek 8 meant he has regained the lead in Red Lightning’s Top 10K Any Season mini-league. He now sits in 144th overall and also retains top spot in the FFS Old Farts Club league, for our community’s elders as well as first place in the Long and Winding Road main league.

There’s no stopping Andy in the FFScout moderators and contributors league. He remains in first after recording an impressive score of 110 in Gameweek 8. Greenwindmill is the latest to take second place in an attempt to catch him.

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, Gecko hit the top score in Gameweek 8 with 131 where the safety score was set at 61. Entry is open during for the international break, for more details visit here.

Finally, here’s a reminder from Jarvish of his Blank Weekend Challenge competition. This focuses on some of the lower English league players and is ideal for those keen to scratch their Fantasy Football itch during the international break.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Evening. If City have indeed lost their two best attackers, isn't it maybe a good move to avoid their attack? I'm wondering if Kompany gets healthy if they might tighten up and grind out some boring results until Aguero and Silva return.

Actually, just get the cheapest 90 min striker - someone like Jerome. He's going to be bench fodder or you'll have a dilemma each week. The rest of your front 7 are strong.

Then you can strengthen the defence next week.

    Fabianski / Gomes
    Kolarov / Janmaat / Dawson / Francis / Prodl
    KDB / Sanchez / Mahrez / Payet / Wanyama
    Aguero / Vardy / Pelle

Obviously Kun is getting transferred out, just need to decide who for and see if anyone else gets injured

What you do with your Aguero money is going to be pivotal to the season. Assuming you want him back in a month's time (and you surely will) then it's best not to spread the spare cash around too much.

Don't leave yourself with a headache on how to get him back in! Unless you still have a WC of course.

I would like to get Lukaku in, but I'm starting to think that going 3-5-2 and upgrading the fifth mid to someone decent is going to be the best route back towards Aguero. It's the simplest to reverse.

I concur. If he is out for 4 weeks that gives you 4 transfers the more transfer you waste spreading it about the more you need to recoup it.

Exactly. I was just playing and I have a load in the bank for upgrading a defender or two. But four points to get them in, four points to get them out - will those defenders actually earn enough in four weeks to make a profit? It's unlikely.

I think so, but it takes a lot of will power to have three 4.5 defenders in the backline and 5.0 in the bank and not spend it...

If I currently have 2 free transfers, but elect to wildcard this week, will I still have 2 free transfers next week (i.e. does the carried over one continue to carry over)? I can't seem to locate the answer in the rules section.

i.e. unless your team is a real mess use your 2FT to shape your post Aguero team and then you have your wildcard to bring him back in if you've spread the cash thinly in the meantime.

Exactly the two options I'm weighing up against each other at the moment. I have Toure and Ivanovic both looking dodgy also.

Thanks dude. Seems inequitable to me that the carried over transfer would vanish, having not been used.

Take Aguero out with your regular transfers and use your WC to get him back in later.

    Best Silva replacement?

    A. KDB - i'm not sure if he'll get the points without Aguero, Silva and perhaps Yaya

    B. Walcott - rotation risk but cheaper than KDB so can have the money itb to get Kun when he's ready

    C. Mane - already have Pelle

    D. Others

    Comment highly appreciated. Thanks!

I have the same dilemma but looking to go (a). MCI playing Bournemouth at home has to have goals in it. I will go Aguero to Pelle but I d like some City attacking cover as well.

    Reformatted:

Man City score goals. It seems like one of the few absolutes of the Premier League in this Sheikh Mansour era. Now how much of this is down to Kun is a very important question when regarding the rest of Man City’s attacking assets in this troubling period for fantasy football managers.

First of all, I wanted to look at squads’ general goal scoring propensity in this Kun era of the Premier League. I see his arrival as the point from which Man City had built a great squad to fulfil their ambitions.

From the 2011/12 season onwards I have counted goals scored and matches blanked for the best 6 teams over this period to give Man City some context.

    Man City
    Goals Scored: 363
    Goals per game: 2.27
    Matches blanked: 18
    Blanks per season: 4.3

    Man U
    Goals Scored: 313
    Goals per game: 1.96
    Matches blanked: 25
    Blanks per season: 5.9

    Arsenal
    Goals Scored: 298
    Goals per game: 1.86
    Matches blanked: 26
    Blanks per season: 6.2

    Chelsea
    Goals Scored: 296
    Goals per game: 1.85
    Matches blanked: 25
    Blanks per season: 5.9

    Liverpool
    Goals Scored: 279
    Goals per game: 1.74
    Matches blanked: 34
    Blanks per season: 8.1

    Spurs
    Goals Scored: 256
    Goals per game: 1.60
    Matches blanked: 33
    Blanks per season: 7.8

And at the other end of the table we have

    Stoke
    Goals Scored: 173
    Goals per game: 1.08
    Matches blanked: 54
    Blanks per season: 12.8

    Sunderland
    Goals Scored: 166
    Goals per game: 1.04
    Matches blanked: 56
    Blanks per season: 13.3

This is truly a phenomenal scoring rate over 4 and a quarter season scoring 50 more goals, or 12 per season, than any other team in the league. Man City outscore Man U by a greater rate than Arsenal or Chelsea outscore Tottenham. They also outscore more than two whole teams combined in Stoke and Sunderland.

Now that we have our context of just how many goals Man City score, I have now divided up the era of Kun to games with Kun and games without Kun.

    With Kun
Games: 128 (18 substituted on, 65 substituted off)
    Goals Scored: 296
    Goals per game: 2.31
    Matches blanked: 15
    Blanks per season rate: 4.5

    Without Kun
Games: 32 (29 due to injury and 3 as unused substitute)
    Goals Scored: 67
    Goals per game: 2.09
    Matches blanked: 3
    Blanks per season rate: 3.6

So without Kun, there is a noticeable dip in Manchester City output as they score at 2.09 goals per game rather than 2.31 goals per game.

But 2.09 goals per game is still better than any other squad in the Kun era by 0.13 goals per game or 5 goals per season.

In the Pellegrini stage of the Kun era Man City have been even better both with and without Kun than over the Kun era as a whole.

    Pellegrini with Kun
Games: 64 (6 substituted on, 32 substituted off)
    Goals Scored: 158
    Goals per game: 2.47
    Matches blanked: 5
    Blanks per season rate: 3.0

    Pellegrini without Kun
    Games: 20 (all through injury)
    Goals Scored: 46
    Goals per game: 2.30
    Matches blanked: 2
    Blanks per season rate: 3.8

Man City with Kun under Pellegrini score at a rate of 2.47 goals per game or 94 goals per season, without him they score at a rate of 2.30 goals per game 87 goals per season. This is still a lot of goals without Kun.

Tl;Dr: Man City score goals with or without Kun.

but can they score without Kun and Silva? that is my concern. having second thoughts in doing Silva to KDB move.

Man City have only had 5/160 league games with neither Kun nor Silva 😯

In those games they scored 9 goals or 1.8 goals per game. I appreciate this is lower than the numbers above but not worryingly low, my two caveats are: 1) its too small a sample size to tell and 2) with KdB as a plug and play replacement I see the loss of Silva to not be as bad as the loss of Kun.

          • 11 Years

Precisely, the variables have changed now. City have a proper #10 now to fill-in for Silva as oppose to other years. Even from the small sample size from a couple of games ago, KdB proved to excel in his natural position.

            • 12 Years
            10 years, 2 months ago

Yep, KdB is essentially David Silva minus five years of injuries and aging. A great buy for the continuity of the club.

      Awesome insights.

Trying to decide if to do a -8 and bring in KDB or Yaya (if fit). Or just stick with Aguero > Pelle (-4). I was pretty much decided to just get Pelle but hard to resist Man City attacking assets over next few weeks

Should I use it now to better this team? Or will a FT be sufficient?

    Ruddy (Butland)
    Azpi Cedric Kolarov (Nyom, Huth)
    Silva, Payet, Mahrez, Ayew (Wanyama)
    Martial, Aguero, Sakho

Silva -> KDB seems ok but meaningless. Ayew, Silva, Nyom are yellow flagged. Martial is definitely a shout, with Everton and possible goals against City.

Sakho & Payet have weird fixtures, with Crystal Palace doing magnificently but against a struggling Chelsea.

And most importantly, Aguero out for 2-8 weeks.

Pelle -> Aguero for free? Do Ayew, Silva, Nyom need any moves worth for a hit?

Ok so I'll probably do these for a -4 trade near the deadline:
Aguero & Silva to Pelle & KDB.
Anything worth a -8 hit with the following team:
    Butland (McCarthy)
    Kolorov, Williams, Zouma?? (Richards, Gomez??)
Sanchez (c), KDB, Payet, Mahrez, Redmond
    Pelle, Vardy (Diouf??)

My problem is my lack of depth on the bench & the rotation risk of Zouma (although we all want him to play we're not the manager & he could still go with Terry/Cahill). Gomez probably won't play & who knows with Diouf.

Is any one of these trades worth a -8 hit:
    (a) Gomez out, Bellerin in or
    (b) Diouf out, Lukaku in

    Thanks.
