Captain Sensible – Gameweek 33

Next up this Friday evening, it’s time for our pre-Gameweek members’ article as we run the rule over the main captaincy candidates for the upcoming round of fixtures.

As always, we get underway by checking in with the form of the leading contenders in our Captain Poll, then delve into the Opta data and Rate My Team (RMT) ratings before considering a differential or two for Gameweek 33.

The Captain Poll

A strong start to life helps Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang top the Captain Poll for the first time since arriving in the winter transfer window.

A brace at home to Stoke took the Gunners’ frontman to five goals and an assist in six league outings, helping him to an average of 6.5 points per match in Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

Despite some healthy competition for the armband, Aubameyang is well clear of the chasing pack with 44% of the votes cast.

Harry Kane (17%) grabs second spot ahead of Mohamed Salah (14%), with the latter’s allure in decline due to major concerns over his availability for the Merseyside derby.

The top transfer target for the Gameweek, Kane is expected to lead the line at the bet365 Stadium after returning to fitness off the bench in Sunday’s win at Chelsea.

Encouragingly for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, their top scorer has fired eight goals in his last four league meetings with the Potters.

Midfield pair Son Heung-min and Dele Alli offer in-form differential options, with 36 and 31 points respectively over their last three outings. Furthermore, the South Korean served up 16 points against Stoke earlier in the season.

After limping off early in Liverpool’s Champions League win over Man City, there’s a worry that Salah could be rested for the trip to Everton, bearing in mind that the return leg with Pep Guardiola’s side is on Tuesday evening.

With a goal or assist in 23 of 29 league starts and 14 double-digit hauls to his name already, the Egyptian is clearly more than capable of delivering, if selected.

Meanwhile, his team-mate Sadio Mane can also profit against a defence with just one clean sheet in the last 12 Gameweeks. The Senegal international has three goals and as many assists in the previous five fixtures.

Riyad Mahrez (3%) and Jamie Vardy (1%) are also overlooked as Leicester welcome Newcastle United to the King Power Stadium.

The Algerian has delivered attacking returns in 11 of his last 15 league starts, while Vardy’s strike at Brighton last time out means he has scored in six of the last eight Gameweeks.

The Magpies, meanwhile, roll up with just a single shut-out in their previous 13 attempts on the road.

Eden Hazard remains the favoured Chelsea pick for a home clash with a West Ham defence that’s conceded 11 goals in their last three on the road.

A single assist in four showcases an alarming lack of form, yet the wide man remains his side’s most explosive performer, having delivered 10+ points on six occasions.

Somewhat surprisingly, Romelu Lukaku is the most selected captain for the Manchester derby on Saturday evening.

In saying that, the Belgian has just over 1% backing, despite arriving at the Etihad Stadium on the back of four goals and two assists in his previous six.

Pep Guardiola’s midfield is packed full with form options as they bid to defeat their neighbours and clinch the title.

David Silva has been the standout performer in recent weeks, with three goals and a trio of assists in City’s last four matches.

Meanwhile, Raheem Sterling (two goals and four assists in six) and Leroy Sane (three goals and as many assists in seven) also boast fine form.

Kevin De Bruyne, meanwhile, has recorded more double-figure hauls at home (six) than any team-mate.

Hi all! Is Salah & Firmino ---> Alli & Vardy for a -4 a good idea? In my case I've got alot of funds tied up in both Salah and Firmino, so I'm unsure.

In theory they're good moves. Money aside (as it's points that are more important) I would take a chance of you need to do catching up.

In the same boat. Could do Salah-Firmino to Alli-Kane/-4, but think I’ll hold.

Seems stupid to transfer Salah out when we’re not 100% sure about the extent of his injury.

What if Pool crash out to City midweek... and Salah is healthy and Pool is facing Bournemouth at home...? I wouldn’t want to be without Salah at that point.

100% understand your argument in terms of Salah, but I don't think it applies to Firmino though...

Probably not, but I bought him for 8.5. And cant get Kane in just by selling Bobby F. Difficult decision, but my first sub is Dunk, so feeeeeling so comfortable. 🙂

And if you dont have your FH chip left I’d seriously consider keeping.

On the other hand I am a low risk type of FPL player. Its been working this season (top 500), but other seasons not that well...

    Advice appreciated.

    A) Vardy, Mhki, Bailly > Kane, A.King, Morgan (-8) Then Aubu > Lukaku DGW34.

    B) Barnes, Salah, Mhki, > Kane, Lingard, A.King (-8) Then Aubu + Bailly > Lukaku + DGW (-4) def in DGW.

    C) Save FT and assess for DGW.

I am liking B because it gives me the best 3 Strikers for the next two GW and I can downgrade one of them to get Salah back if I want.

    Ryan
    Alonso Chilwell Lowton
    Salah* Son Mahrez Willian
    Aubu Vardy Barnes

    DDG Bailly Cedric Mhki*

Pep Guardiola has revealed that super-agent Mino Raiola offered him Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in January.

The Manchester City manager hit back at Raiola after he was quoted as telling Dutch magazine that he was a "cowardly dog" after his treatment of ex-Barcelona forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic, another of his clients.

Guardiola was asked about his rivalry with United manager Jose Mourinho ahead of Saturday's Manchester derby which could see City clinch the Premier League title.

But the Catalan said he had bigger rivalries than with the Portuguese boss before, saying he doesn't understand Raiola's attack after he had offered him his players "like two months ago."

"I'll give you a huge list of my big rivalries, believe me," Guardiola told a news conference. "I never won [against] Mourinho and he never beat me, our teams beat the other ones, so I don't play against Jose. He doesn't play against me.

"Sometimes his teams, they beat me, sometimes I beat him, it's simple like that. After that we are in our careers, we are still in the business and we'll play 1,000 times more."

Asked about his rivalries, Guardiola added: "Finally, the people discover my secrets, I am a bad guy. I'm a coward.

"I don't understand why I am such a so bad guy. I never speak with him so his influence on my opinion, so I don't know maybe for Ibra explained many things about me.

"But being a guy like two months ago [why did] he offer me Mkhitaryan and Pogba to play with us.

"Why did he offer [them]? He was interested in Mkhitaryan and Pogba playing with us. So I'm like a guy, so he has to protect his players and he has to know so he cannot bring the players a guy like me, like a dog.

"And comparing a dog is bad. It's not good. He has to respect the dogs."

Guardiola described Pogba, who is expected to start against City on Saturday, as an "incredible player" but said he couldn't afford the French midfielder.

"I said 'no.' We don't have the money enough to buy Pogba because he is so expensive," Guardiola added.

"I'm surprised [he was offered] because I am a dog. So that's why. So like a dog, he comes to want his players to come here. So, no. No way."

In response, Raiola told the BBC: "I never spoke to Pep Guardiola. I would not speak to him about players, I would speak to Manchester City. They are a fantastic club with a fantastic manager.''

The claims appeared to come as a surprise to Pogba, who tweeted afterwards, "Say what?''

Guardiola insisted he wouldn't take any extra pleasure from taking the title from Mourinho following their bitter rivalry during their days at Barca and Real Madrid.

And he added that even a title victory against United would not eclipse City's dramatic title win in 2012 when Sergio Aguero scored the title-winning goal deep in injury time.

"I respect him a lot, Jose," he added. "We started the season wanting to win the Premier League.

"Nothing will be more emotional than when Sergio scored the goals in 2012, nothing could compare. I saw the images from YouTube. In that situation nothing can compare to that goal in the last minute to win the title after such a long time.

"Of course for the fans to win against United I can understand how special it can be, but in the end, I'm sorry.

"After the game vs. Liverpool, I recovered the bad moments I had and I was thinking about what we have to do to win the game, to control the [Romelu] Lukaku, Alexis [Sanchez], [Anthony] Martial, [Juan] Mata if he plays and what we have to do. Just focus on that."

Those keeping hold of Salah will get left behind IMO. Over 60% still have him, some serious gains can be made in rankings from this point if you're brave enough to ditch for someone like Alli I think.

70 points behind in my ML.

Sell Salah or not? Almost everyone in my ML has him.

If not, who is the best differential to get below 9m?
