Shock for Fantasy managers as Doherty benched for Gameweek 23 opener

Fantasy Premier League managers were left shocked after the Gameweek 23 deadline as it was confirmed Wolves defender Matt Doherty (£5.2m) was on the bench for the lunch-time kick-off.

In his place at right wing-back for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side is Jonny (£4.3m) whose move across from the left has allowed Ruben Vinagre (£4.3m) to get a start.

The reasons behind Doherty’s benching are not currently confirmed although local media have suggested that he may have missed out on a placing in the first XI because his wife gave birth this week. We will likely hear more from Nuno at full-time.

Meanwhile, Leander Dendoncker (£4.3m) comes in for the suspended Willy Boly (£4.6m) in the back-three while Romain Saïss (£4.2m) sits alongside Ruben Neves (£4.9m) in central midfield.

Raúl Jiménez (£6.4m) and Diogo Jota (£5.9m) lead the line with Joao Moutinho (£5.1m) sitting behind as the number 10.

The headline news for Leicester is that Harvey Barnes (£5.5m) gets his first start since being recalled from a loan with West Bromwich Albion. He occupies the left attacking midfield spot, with Demarai Gray (£5.4m) at number 10 and Ricardo Pereira (£5.3m) on the right.

James Maddison (£6.7m) is the man to drop out to allow Barnes into the side.

Wolves XI: Rui Patrício; Bennett, Coady, Dendoncker; Jonny, Saïss, Rúben Neves, Rúben Vinagre; João Moutinho; Jiménez, Diogo Jota.

Leicester XI: Schmeichel; Simpson, Morgan, Maguire, Chilwell; Mendy, Ndidi; Ricardo Pereira, Gray, Barnes; Vardy.

    Seen a couple asking about the pressure on Puel. It's largely because our fans are still spoiled from our PL win I think. He has essentially established us as an upper midtable side yet people are still upset. Yes he has his faults, yes our football could be more fun to watch, and yes we're inconsistent. But if Puel had no faults, we played attractive football, and we were consistent, we'd be in the Top 6 right now. No mid-table team is consistent or not plagued with holes in the squad, because if they weren't, they wouldn't be mid-table.

        How is he crap? How? We have won the most points from a losing position in the league, we have one of the best defensive records, he has blooded through 3 (3!) Academy players into our first team set up during his tenure. What more do you want?
