Mount benched as Sterling and Aguero lead Man City attack

Mason Mount (£6.8m) finds himself on the Chelsea bench for the daunting visit to Manchester City this afternoon.

With a recent injury to Callum Hudson-Odoi (£5.8m) and Christian Pulisic (£7.4m) carrying a hip problem, it had been though that Mount might be afforded a start in the front-three.

However, Frank Lampard has named Pulisic and Willian (£7.1m) either side of Tammy Abraham (£8.0m).

In anticipation of Manchester City’s powerful attack, he has gone with a 4-3-3 formation featuring Jorginho (£5.1m), Mateo Kovačić (£5.3m) and N’Golo Kanté (£5.0m) in the midfield trio.

For the third match in a row, Emerson Palmieri (£5.5m) starts at left-back.

Meanwhile, Raheem Sterling (£12.0m) and Sergio Aguero (£12.0m) are both in Manchester City’s front-three, joined by Riyad Mahrez (£8.3m) in light of Bernardo Silva‘s (£7.9m) suspension.

For the first time since Gameweek 10, Benjamin Mendy (£5.8m) and Joao Cancelo (£5.3m) are named in the full-back positions while John Stones (£5.3m) and Fernandinho (£5.2m) are trusted in the middle of the defence.

Line-ups

Man City XI: Ederson; Mendy, Fernandinho, Stones, Cancelo; Rodrigo, D Silva, De Bruyne; Sterling, Aguero, Mahrez.

Chelsea XI: Kepa; Emerson, Tomori, Zouma, Azpilicueta; Kovacic, Jorginho, Kanté; Pulisic, Abraham, Willian.

    Any ideas why KDB started playing deeper and deeper in the second half? He looked super tired. I know he scored but he has not been looking fully fit ever since his injury return? Does anyone else also thinks so or am I misreading it?

        Could be. I’m thinking of booking my profit on him and move him on for Son. If Kun is definitely out for sometime, Pep will be extremely cautious with KDB, which could mean reduced games and time.

          I don't understand that reasoning. If Aguero is out surely Pep will play KDB week in week out.

      Rodri went off at pretty much the start of the 2nd half so KDB helps cover for Gundo who is not a natural holding midfielder. Though I was at the game and personally did not feel he played that deep the 2nd half, I was watching out for it specifically. He was our best attacking outlet by far and Rodri should be back next games. Getting Son in is a good option but I think you'd be daft to ditch KDB. He's a bargain.

    People who owned sterling didnt even think he could score in that game the way he was playing. Scoring at that point of the game would have been the steal of the week...

    I understand TAA stats are promising but should people start questioning TAA value vs return?
    Many cheaper options within 6 to 8 pts of his total points.
    Considering Liverpool is not keeping clean sheets is he worth keeping?

      It's a fair question - I'm sticking for now due to assists potential (although Robertson has annoyingly sailed past on that score)

    2 FT, 2.8 ITB

    A) Connolly -> Jimenez (gives me no obvious bench fodder in front 8)
    B) Dunk -> Robbo (Also own TAA)
    C) Mount + Connolly -> Dendoncker + Firmino/Laca
    D) Martial -> Son

    Current team:
    Pope, McGov
    TAA, Dunk, Soyuncu, Rico, Lund
    Mane, Mount, Maddison, Martial, KDB
    Vardy, Abraham, Connolly
