Pro Pundits

The underlying stats forming my ideal Free Hit squad for FPL Blank Gameweek 29

Scoutcast regular Seb Wassell, who finished 389th in the world in 2019/20, is the latest Pro Pundit to run through his dream Free Hit team.

I have used my own team as a template for this mock Free Hit squad, meaning that I have a budget of £105.9m (£102.6m + £3.3m in the bank) to work with, which accounts for the cheaper prices paid for players I already own and would keep for this Free Hit.

However, given the limited fixtures this week and the large funds most of us have available, I do not believe this is going to be unachievable for anyone.

The Squad

Should You Play the Free Hit?

This week’s poll on the Fantasy Football Scout website suggests that the most common maximum number of players managers expect to have available to them in Gameweek 29 without using the Free Hit but after transfers is nine, followed by eight. This poll of course skews towards the type of manager that not only regularly checks external Fantasy Premier League resources but actively engages with them. Therefore, it may be safe to assume the real mode is slightly lower, say six to seven available players.

If you fall below this threshold, the Free Hit looks like a wise move. If you do not, perhaps consider the possibility of saving it for Gameweek 33, when both Man City and Spurs blank, or for an as-yet-unannounced Double Gameweek.

Even if you have resolved to save the Free Hit, however, being aware of the players that those using the chip this week may pick in their ‘ideal team’ can be useful information in guiding your own selection decisions.

Disciplinary infraction.....team wins derby in his absence......plays 90 and is useless in the return leg of the EL...I think most managers would bench him to reinforce the winning mentality

Disagree with that lacing comment. Auba is about goals and contributes very little otherwise. Laca can do both.

Bamford has a brilliant fixture in 31 too.

Disregarding tonight there is reason to doubt Kane captaincy in any event . Spurs have scored 6 goals in their last 6 away outings and 3 of those were against SHU halfway through January. Just 3 scored in last 5

        I'm going Lingard I think

No Brighton defence and I have a bad feeling that that one will be just one more case of Brighton conceding an unlikely one. Wouldn't rule out another goal for Dunk mind.

Ye I really like Dunks goal threat. If Brighton score decent chance Dunk is the one.

Brighton’s home stats (both defensive and offensive) from

          Plus it’s Newcastle

Son a doubt and now don’t even want to captain Kane particularly. Wwyd here? 1FT 3.5 ITB. Thinking Dunk in for a City defender maybe for one thing? Could also go Son to JLingz..?

Think it’s all depends what sort of team you can get out for 29.

It’s surely going to be a very low scoring week. If you can get 8 players out covering the main big hitters I think there is more potential in holding the FH for future potential doubles

          1. Qaiss
            • 8 Years
            3 years, 2 months ago

Perhaps. I can also get 8 players with a -4. But I also have my Wildcard for 31.

Auba should've scored a hattrick today. However, he did play full 90, which is a slight concern. Bale, though abysmal today, will probably start given spurs injury concerns. Really tricky, this.

How do you see the West Ham game playing out?
I'm expecting it to be a tough game with little to separate both sides.
Also till the time Arsenal are in the EL, there will always be some sort of worry to see if Auba starts every game in the league or not

With the international break and Auba being our best striker against a tough opponent, plus Spurs playing 120 and being in a bad moment as a club, he’s potentially the best choice.

I think it could be a score draw or something maybe Arsenal sneak a win. Just unsure about Spurs now.
