Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has gone live for the 2024/25 season – and managers can now set their squads up for the new campaign.

The launch comes after a week of price reveals in which 176 Premier League players were priced up across all 20 top-flight clubs.

We’ll begin rounding up the newly released prices in more articles to come.

LIVE REACTION

WHAT’S NEW IN FPL

Fantasy Premier League (FPL) had previously said there will be “exciting new features” in this season’s game.

On Tuesday, FPL finally announced three major changes: the ability to roll up to five transfers (and keep the saved ones after using a chip), a new Mystery Chip, and minor tweaks to the scoring system/Bonus Points System.

You can read all about them here.

The interface has also been altered, including the welcome move of the chips to an area where they are less likely to be accidentally clicked:

WHAT’S STAYED THE SAME IN FPL

Everything else of note in FPL seems to have remained the same.

Aside from the ‘Mystery Chip’, the other chips are as they were (two Wildcards, one Free Hit, one Bench Boost and one Triple Captain).

The Gameweek deadlines remain at 90 minutes prior to the first kick-off.

Other than goalkeepers getting 10 points for a goal, there are no other direct changes to the scoring system – so no ball recoveries, as some were predicting.

There’s a lot of value among the cheap defenders, especially if Chelsea turns it around defensively. They have great fixtures too and the defenders will probably be avoided by people to start because of their GW1 fixtures. Opens up a budget for basically a dream midfield in my view, really like the look of this draft:

    Sanchez (Fabianski)
    Gvardiol Konate VDV Colwill (Harwood-Bellis)
    Salah Palmer Saka Foden Gordon
    Isak (4.5, 4.5)

Will have to monitor Konate. Sanchez and Colwill sound like they’re guaranteed starters in the new system but will be monitoring those two as well. I love the midfield build on this one, the cheap defense feels worth it especially with Arsenal’s opening fixtures potentially burning some CS.

You have always loved defenders I remember you posting about going 5 at the back years ago =)

Funny that you remember that, my first draft when the game opened today was a five back 😆 a Trent White Gvardiol Robertson VVD backline!

There’s some awesome value among the cheaper defenders this year. Typically getting UCL/UEL club defenders for 4.5 was a pipedream, this year there’s a ton of bargains among Chelsea, Tottenham, United, Villa, and Newcastle.

The five back is still tempting me though 🙂 those five defenders churn out points for their relative value. You’re not going to find a lot of 6.5 mids or forwards that outscore VVD/Gvardiol/White/Robertson

Chelsea have just bought another ton of defenders - the potential rotation is too much to bear.
I've got 4x4.5m defenders but I've opted to swerve those at Chelsea unless one turns out to be nailed.

  5. ☈☾

Thoughts on Arsenal defence, don't think anyone is nailed imo.

White Saliba RB/RCB with Timber as rotation option
Gabriel Zinchenko LCB/LB with Calafiori as rotation option

Kiwior is leaving. Tomiyasu will be back up for LB/RB.

I think Saliba is as nailed as it gets, White fairly close to it as well.

I just think with their fixtures and how expensive there are, there’s potential to zig while everyone else is zagging and reap the benefits of a rough start for their defense

      1. ☈☾

Don't think so. Saliba has played many games. Will be rested here and there

    Haaland or no haaland?

Could get a hat trick v Ipswich in gw2 and non owners lose out on 30pts....

    1. ★Kuntheman★
      • 10 Years
      1 year, 5 months ago

But on the other hand, if someone you captained gets even a goal, you’ve missed out on around 20-22 pts. Given how expensive Haaland is, you’d hope that the rest of your team (which is likely way better than the rest of the Haaland owner’s team) makes up that difference

If no Haaland and he bags hat tricks in the first 2 GWs, your season is over.
On the other hand if you have him and he blanks, with your cheap makeweights, you're going to be left far behind.
        I'm risking going without.

Counter point - He also missed some GWs last season, and points per match is 2nd highest from last season. If he stays healthy, then definitely has a chance to be the highest points.

You could easily gain those points elsewhere though.

Haaland is going to score 25+ goals. It's what you do with the £ elsewhere.

      Midfield 4 with Haaland:
      Palmer, Odegaard, Kudus, Garnacho

      Without Haaland (from same teams):
      Palmer, Saka, Bowen, Bruno F.

I'm going with Haaland as I like these midfielders, especially Kudus. But that's the major decision I'm seeing

    Anything to say to this?
    1) Arsenal CS needs to be targeted so Raya makes sense right? Cheapest and doesn't need rotation
    2) Gvardiol is a bit of a trap I think he could easily be rotated.
    3) Salah isn't worth it surely if you're going for Haaland and he'll be your captain most weeks
    4) Palmer or Saka if you had to pick? Perhaps Ode or Havertz could cover Saka

    1. Davido989
      • 15 Years

      1) 4.5 GKs are best value
      2) Gvardiol if in that attacking role is a great pick even if not nailed
      3) Salah cheaper than Haaland and has better fixtures
      4) To start, Palmer

      1. Saka White Rice
        • 11 Years

Haaland is much more expensive though so it's easier to downgrade to Salah than the other way round.

sure, but 4.5 gk will get 3.2-3.6ppg and be better value. if you like Arsenal defence makes sense for Raya though

looking at defenders, best to be aiming for those with goal threat + assist potential right? those 2 bps extra for SOTs could make a difference. makes white look overpriced, TAA under-priced for example

Trent looks a very good pick. Liverpool haven't been coached defensively in 2 seasons so it'll be interesting to see if Arne could tighten them up a bit.

All cancelled out by the lost bps for conceding. Premium defenders only worth it for clean sheets imo, so that means for me it’s only City and Arsenal in the top price bracket that are actually worth it.

You're forgetting the BPS gained by attackers with the change. Foden Haaland Saka Havertz will likely snag bonus from defenders from now on.

Don’t see how this discredits my argument? I was saying that bps losses for conceding will have a bigger negative impact on DEF bonus points than bps gains for shots on target etc will have a positive effect.

Arsenal and City defenders aren't worth it either at their price. Except for Gvardiol.

I see. I wasn’t picking Arsenal defenders for their bonus points potential either, so for me it doesn’t change the arithmetic on them.

Ah gotcha. Well atm to get Salah in I need to get rid of Nkunku, Gabriel, Watkins. For Haaland it’s even worse. I feel happy atm but fomo will no doubt play a factor later on.

(This because Foden, Palmer, Saka are non-negotiable for me in the current moment. If I were to seriously consider Salah and Haaland I’d probably end up dropping Foden.)

    Ode over Saka

    - 1.5m saving
    - generally in all set pieces
    - generally good for BPS
    - Nice Summer rest

he's at a nice price point, might be mistaken but thought Rice had taken over most set-piece duties towards the end of the season? with Saka getting in swinging corners for left footer

Yeah took the corners after the January break.

        GW20-28:
        CO: Saka (50), Rice (44)
        FK: Odegaard (4), Rice (1)
        PK: Saka (4)

I’ll go Saka, and downgrade accordingly, if necessary.

I am more like to captain Saka than Ode, too. Prefer the extra option with Salah under a new gaffer to start.

    Threemium draft!

    Henderson
    Mykolenko, Mee, Martinez
    Salah (c), Palmer, Gordon, CHO
    Haaland, Havertz, João Pedro

    (Fabianski, VDV, Konsa, Scarlett)

CHO, Pedro and the defenders all rotate based on fixtures

Not sure if Willian is still around, otherwise he might be on pens which would make him a great option as 5th mid in a 352 imo.

    Bench: Turner Winks Faes Jebbison

    I think it's balanced enough:

    Pickford / 4.0
Robertson, Porro, Guéhi, Konsa / Davis
Salah, Palmer, Foden, Gordon / 4.5
    Watkins, Havertz

I could downgrade Havertz, but that would mean no Arsenal coverage.

Here's my first draft for an early WC team (GW3).

    Miguel (4.0)
    TAA VDV Williams (Faes, Harwood-Bellis)
    Salah(GW1) Gordon Garnacho CHO (Winks)
    Haaland(GW2) Isak Gakpo

Shall leave as that for some time now and skedaddle before I trigger another modding spree. Happy launch day everyone!

Just as (un)interesting as Team ID may be League ID.

    Leagues 1-20 are PL teams
21-275 are countries (there are some weird ones)
    276-313 are Gameweeks
    314 is Overall
    315-320 are broadcasters
    321 is Second Chance
    322-337 are named private leagues
338 is the first public league, as far as I can tell (I am in this league)

Do what you will with this useless information; I had fun at least!
