Fabregas Set To Miss Out Against Birmingham

Arsene Wenger has all but ruled out Cesc Fabregas for Saturday’s Emirates clash with Birmingham.

In his usual Thursday afternoon update Wenger stated that match fitness was a concern with his skipper stating…

“Cesc is very, very short and unlikely to be involved [on Saturday]. He has a little chance for Tuesday.”

The news will come as a major blow to Fantasy Managers who will have preparing their squads for the return of the Gunners playmaker ahead of Gameweek 7. Fabregas is currently riding high in our Captain poll with 24% of the vote.

Given that Fabregas will now likely make a Premier League return against City at Eastlands in Gameweek 9, it now looks as though we will be afforded a couple of weeks of breathing space to muster the funds required to bring in the inspirational Spaniard. That will be little consolation to those who have already made the move, or played their wildcards this week to manufacture the transfer.

Samir Nasri – in strong form and possibly deployed up in support of the lone striker, now looks a lot good prospect against Birmingham. Crucially Nasri started on the bench in Tuesday’s Euro Qualifier with Luxembourg, only appearing on 63 minutes.

In other news from the Emirates, Wenger confirmed that Nicklas Bendtner will make a return to the squad – a development that immediately puts Marouane Chamakh under threat as a Fantasy prospect. Bendtner is likely to start life on the bench against Birmingham but clearly will be a factor from this point on. Wenger had this to say on Bendtner’s return…

“Apart from the fact he went to the World Cup we have not seen the real Nicklas Bendtner for a long, long time. He is the closest he has been to his best for a while. He was really, really handicapped by groin problems but they have gone now.”

Theo Walcott could also figure; he is set to be assessed following Friday’s training session. Kieran Gibbs is available and could start with Gael Clichy rested with Tuesday’s Champions League tie in mind.
Thomas Vermaelen and Bacary Sagna remained sidelined and Wenger has cast doubt on their return against City…

“Sagna is ten days, Vermaelen is ten days”

Manuel Almunia will likely be in contention for the City game while Robin Van Persie remains “a bit longer” away from a return. We’re all too familiar with that particular prognosis when it comes to Van Persie.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

he is 11.8, hopefully word gets out now and he drops further, that being said, it is a bit of a pity that those of us that can get him in this week won't have the surprise element next week if he plays in Champions League

WOW. Fabregas has been tweeting and reporting that he's been fine all week! 2 days away from playing the Chelsea game he even said.

Though I'm an Arsenal fan, going to the game, kinda makes my decision to bring Nani in now!

You should never listen to the player though. They're not the ones who pick the team.

If you have kept Fabs this long then You may as well keep him another week or two now, surely?

    Sweet!

This is why you should always wait until late Thursday or Friday to do your changes.

I might take a punt on Arteta now, you know. Or just leave Gerrard in for the next 2 weeks. Hopefully Stevie G rises again and Fabs falls further. £11.6m for Fabs after GW9 too much to ask?

Are Arsenal players somehow different to the rest? Whenever the likes of Fibreglass and Van Porcelain get injured their recovery times seem to be ridiculously long.

    Afternoon Guys,

I am thinking more about the weekend now and I am more than a little concerned about Gareth Bale. Does anyone else also think that he must be a rotation risk for this weekend? With Inter Milan to come midweek and off the back of two 90 mins for Wales including a trip to Switzerland.......

Surely it must be in Harry's mind to sit him out? If so I would certainly consider him as my tranfer this week. Even though I am actually one of the few that thinks he will come good sooner rather than later...

Oh well, Fab out, Thomas out, Konch out, suddenly the nuclear option of:

looks like the way to go for me. I suppose I could finally sell Fab and keep Mal for a couple more weeks though now.....

Wildcard week! Fabs news is disappointing but it would have taken more hits and too much tinkering to get cash together for him without WC this week. My defence of Van Damme/Perch/Evans was in shambles anyway so it had to be done, my current defence is Jara/Elmo/Simpson/Boateng/O'Shea

Yep, well I take it from Atilla and other Toon fans that once he is back Perch is out. Perch is a liability so I can see that myself, he is a great attacking player and at 3.9 I am okay for him to look like being a nailed on starter in weeks to come and to sit on my bench for the time being, with little to no loss really to me

nope, it's still Birmingham, if Fabregas was playing I gave them less of a chance, but I quite fancy Birmingham to park the bus and maybe get something out of it now, or maybe Bendtner will come on and score the winner on 90 +(2)
