The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk- Taking Liberties?

Three home games and not a single goal conceded- Swansea once again returned a clean sheet this afternoon as Brendan Rodgers’ side finally picked up their first three points of the season.

While the swashbuckling performances of both Manchester clubs provide Fantasy managers plenty options going forward, the Swans continue to offer plenty cut-price options at the back and, in this thoroughly unpredictable Fantasy campaign, are showing a defensive consistency that seems to be lacking the length and breadth of the Premier League.

Michel Vorm defied West Brom at the Liberty Stadium with a string of saves and jumped to second in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) goalkeeper rankings- at 4.1 he’s cementing his position as one of the bargains of the season. Ahead of the Dutchman, the likes of Angel Rangel, Ashley Williams and Neil Taylor –the left-back was stretchered off after a clumsy challenge from Peter Odemwingie, however- are all racking up the points right now.

Shipping four goals in their first fixture, it seemed impossible that Swansea would then go on to concede just one in the following four but, exposed to the harsh realities of Premier League life in the Etihad Stadium opener, Rodgers’ side have learned fast. While the likes of Arsenal are hit for four by a side managed by Steve Kean, the Welsh club are defying all expectation with a series of resolute displays.

In a sense, it merely adds to the frustration of many Fantasy managers this season. There have no doubt been a proportion of casual players who initially added Swansea defensive options to their ranks simply due to the low price, allowing their budgets to be allocated to big-money buys such as Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero. Hand one of them the captain’s armband week after week and bang- there’s your big points haul right there. No need for tactics.

As the big names bang in the goals, the dirt-cheap options chalk up the clean sheets- this Fantasy lark is supposed to favour the more dedicated player; study the form and the fixtures, rotate as and when accordingly. At present, though, it seems far from it.

Man every week I want to get rid of Ba, but I always have more pressing matters, but his price is dropping more rapidly than Katie Price's panties.

Reckon I should bite the bullet and take the points hit? Because these falls are starting to cost me when it comes to transfer prices.

the middle one is the gamble. the first looks good fixture wise and the last looks essential with saha in no man's land right now. if you think of it as will mata score 4 more points then it's not so simple imo. he easily could, he easily couldn't. if you definitely want mata long term then i'd go ahead with it, if not give theo one more game

Saha to anything is fine; Mata looks almost essential next week but the (continually) wounded Gunners take on Bolton - if they don't come out of that with a convincing win you know they are in trouble...so Walcott might be worth holdingh onto.

Shawcross looks best from gw7 to be honest...

          Before today I was thinking:
Baines to Phil Jones and Dempsey to Mata

          Nw I'm leaning towards;
Baines to Ferdinand and Dempsey to Mata.

Would leave me £2.7m to either replace Moses or Surman for a 4 pt hit.

Maybe the 2 free trannies would be enough for next GW though?

I've had no Arse or Chelsea coverage. No individuals to capture those points.

RVP isn't involved in every goal like last season. Arteta, if nailed on, is a decent shout. Gervinho takes up a precious striker spot.

Meireles may be an option. Sturridge could be third striker material. I'm waiting for Mata to take off before signing. I think once he gets going, the points will roll in.

But no convincing options. Better off doubling on Manc attack.

I can't believe how lucky we were mate. After that Gervinho shot nicked off Samba and flew in the corner i must say i feared the worst and at some points in the first half it looked like you would destroy us down that right hand side. But we got a goal from nothing thanks to Yak and after that things just seemed to go our way in the second half.

I do read those ratings but the analyst must have been looking at the wrong player - he's sluggish; no positional sense and has a poor reading of the game...amd missed a sitter at the other end.

he had a mare today but i still make that 1 bad game out of 5 this season, like a goalkeeper the bad seems to be highlighted and the good forgotten.
think the problem was blackburn were full of pacy tricky players today like hoilett, olsson and yakubu(ish). you may think blackburn away is an aerial battyle but that's only from set-plays. stats suggest he won whatever came his way, the problem imo was he wasn't there enough for stuff to come his way.
still 2 crazy own goals, 1 offside goal (inches but offside nonetheless) and a possible penalty at the end. you shouldn't have to rely on a bit of luck but it helps

yakubu is nailed on for the 3, so it's whether he can scramble the 1 or 2. if they value key passes and through balls then rvp could get some, if not then his 2 shots off target could rule him out, even though he had 3 on target too

arsenal were at a crossroads in the summer.
With key players leaving and a huge war chest to spend on building a new side, Carlo Ancelotti, Martin O'Neill, Rafa Benitez and Mark Hughes were all available as options to take the club forward with renewed purpose and ideas. Even Wenger's long term no.2 Pat Rice indicated chronic knee problems were hampering his performance and felt it was time for retirement.

But they kept faith in Wenger - and he continues to take the team backwards, without learning from his mistakes, without employing any new formations or tactics and without a backbone.

Only question remaining is how low are the clubs directors willing to let the club sink to?

I will save my WC until at least that time. I have tried to build a team with fixtures in mind and will make a trade this week to upgrade either mid or third striker position next week. If I really wanted one specific player I would rather take a 4pt hit than use my WC to rebuild a team that is fundamentally ok. I understand that WC is also used by more experienced players to actually make money during break but I am just getting to that strategy(2nd year FPLer)
