The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk – Double-barrelled

Benoit Assou-Ekotto’s left-foot ensured that the double gameweek had the impact we’d anticipated, but there can be no doubt the he was an unexpected source of satisfaction.

A 30-yard screamer, deflecting off Tim Cahill’s posterior, marked the closest Everton’s Aussie has got to getting his name on the scoresheet this season. Assou-Ekotto has gone one better than the Socceroo, rightly claiming a stunning strike, although his application for goal of the season will surely be turned down thanks to Cahill’s intervention.

With 10% ownership in the Fantasy Premier League game, after over 40,000 transfers in for Gameweek 20, Assou-Ekotto has clearly provided a major boost to a fair slice of Fantasy managers. Those who missed out on tonight’s goal, assist and clean sheet bonanza can at least take some comfort from the fact that such returns were far from signposted. The Cameroon international had scored just one league goal in his previous five seasons – he had mustered just a single shot on target this term before this evening.

It was surely Assou-Ekotto’s price tag, rather than his proven attacking prowess, behind his selection for Tottenham’s double Gameweek. His investors could hardly have expected a profit of 21 point (24 with the inevitable bonus) for their punt.

All the expectation was instead laid at the door of Gareth Bale, Rafael Van der Vaart and Emmanuel Adebayor. While the two of that trio managed to scratch together an assist of Tottenham’s two matches, Adebayor was a major let down; just two goal attempts, both off target, saw the Togo striker do little to justify the FPL armband.

For many, the first double gameweek passed as a non-event – a reminder that the hype and over investment so often involved, can slap us in the face. And yet, ironically, the unlikely profit from Assou-Ekotto demonstrates just how that extra transfer, perhaps even a 4-point hit, can pay off spectacularly when the doubles come around.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

had a few cracks at goal whenever he picked up the ball, but largely ineffective.

Should have at least forced a save or scored at one point but blasted it over the bar. City looked completely disinterested in the game to be honest. Hard to know what to make of it.

I guess if anyone had a chance of scoring it was Aguero.

I never regret making sound logical decisions!

If he scores he scores, but if I stuck by every player that is going through a dry spell and apply the rule of averages I would fall big style!

Aguero vs a Wigan side that can't defend....may not work but I am going for it!

Plus it's a enforced wc, with ade unavailable for the city game and having a difficult run after the next 3 games I thought it was time to cut my losses!

I'm not so sure they were; WBA and Everton are two well-organised defences who are quite happy to park the bus away from home. Wolves on the other hand are pretty dire defensively. Obviously the points have proved it, but looking purely at the two fixtures, I think captaining the Spurs defence was a great shout; wish I'd had the balls to do it myself...instead of Ade. Idiot. 🙁

I'm keeping Ade for Wolves but if I were WCing now I'd get rid.

from what i know, dont hold me to it, protection applies to players flagged due to injury or are just introduced into the FPL game from outside the PL for a period of time that varies i think something like a week to 10 days.
players flagged for suspension or ineligibility are not protected.

if anyone can dispute this go ahead, only about 75% sure on this.

No, but red-flagged players (Ba, Yaya this week for example) take a higher threshold of transfers out to warrant a drop.
      Players are only protected when;
      1. They are unflagged
      2. They are new signings that have just been added to the game.

Thanks that helps. So that means Silva is not protected and Kompany is not protected but will need more transfers out than normal to fall. Any idea what the the number of transfers out a suspended players needs to drop.

    Silva, Nani, Bale, Dempsey, Moses

Reese is there for the next 7-8 GWs for nice fixtures, expensive or not. Richards turns into Kompany when the suspension ends.

I am soooo over the WC.

The latest variation, which I am feeling ok with...

    Burst my bubble please...

    Friedel/Sorensen
    Evans/N Taylor/Jones/Richards/Enrique
    Dempsey/Silva/Nani/Bale/Moses
    Aguero/Graham/RVP.

Jones/Enrique/Silva/Nani/Bale/RVP I don't want to change as I have had them all for a while and I would lose a lot of money on any I sold. No money in the bank with this team... Comments please?

Friedel? Better options out there, Spurs have tough fixtures. Vorm, Mignolet, Krul, Schwarzer... I'd go Evans or Jones to Williamson or Santon and have Schwarzer in goal. Wouldn't want 2 Utd defenders right now; tough upcoming fixtures and in a bit of a mess.

keeping until I hear that he will be out for more than 2 weeks, even then i would leave enough money in the bank to get him straight back in

I'd go with Rooney and Dempsey.

Anyone considering SWP in their WC? Hughes should get the best out of him again and QPR fixtures are decent enough. Massive differential!!!!

before Hughes gets the best out of him, he'll surely ask him to hire Kia as his agent. So wait till that happens. not a good move

remember a 'differential' is only a 'differential' if they ACTUALLY score points.

I posted the same on previous page.

Hughes likes a winger is my opinion, and Warnock has played Wright-Phillips in weird positions.

I'm keeping at eye on him.

I'll be scouting him in the Newcastle game.
