Scout Scribbles- Henry a Doubt for Gunners

Newcastle splash the cash to snap up Papiss Demba Cisse. Thierry Henry is an early doubt for Arsenal with a calf problem. Jonas Olsson could return for West Brom this weekend, while Mick McCarthy has a few injury worries ahead of tonight’s FA Cup replay with rivals Birmingham.

Newcastle have made the first significant move in the winter transfer window with the capture of Papiss Demba Cisse from SC Freiburg on a five and a half year deal. The Senegal international, currently unavailable due to African Cup of Nations commitments, has been handed the number nine shirt and is set to link up with compatriot Demba Ba, in what looks like a lethal front pairing for Alan Pardew’s side. Cisse has an outstanding scoring record in the Bundesliga, netting 31 goals in 49 appearances in the last two seasons, and Pardew explained the reasoning behind the move:

Ever since Andy Carroll left, Papiss was my first choice in the specific role he has had at the end of the play. He’s a player who plays off the shoulder and wants to go in behind, but he’s got a little bit more to his game than that.

Thierry Henry may miss out on the chance to feature against Man United this weekend after reports suggest he has picked up a calf problem in training. The Frenchman has since undergone scans, with Arsene Wenger anxiously awaiting the results.

Norwich have announced they have agreed a deal with Leeds for the transfer of Jonathan Howson. The Leeds skipper has six months left on his existing contract and the move will go ahead subject to a medical and agreement of personal terms. It would bring yet another midfielder to the Canaries ranks, further swelling the options available to Fantasy managers- Paul Lambert has already used eight players in the middle this season and with little sign of consistency of selection, Howson’s appeal, in spite of his undoubted talents, may be resultantly lessened.

The Canaries have also revealed Ritchie De Laet’s loan deal has been cancelled. The Belgian has struggled with a back problem all season and has appeared just twice since the end of gameweek 4; he returns to parent club Man United with immediate effect.

Sunderland’s highly-rated forward Ryan Noble has joined up at Derby on a one-month loan deal. Noble has been banging in the goal for the Black Cats reserves but has struggled to make the step up to the first-team, with just a couple of sub appearance all season. Noble is the third Sunderland player to leave on loan this week; Jordan Cook and Louis Laing joined Carlisle United and Wycombe Wanderers respectively.

Chris Herd looks likely to remain on the sidelines for another month for Aston Villa. The Australian has failed to feature since gameweek 15 after picking up an ankle injury and was initially expected to return this month but Alex McLeish admitted yesterday that the player needs further recovery time. McLeish also revealed the club will be cautious with Emile Heskey’s Achilles problem, while Eric Lichaj managed forty-five minutes for the reserves yesterday, having been out since August with a hip problem.

West Brom injury woes appear to be lessening ahead of their weekend trip to Stoke. Speaking yesterday, Roy Hodgson admitted he is hopeful of a first-team for both Jonas Olsson and Shane Long, while Nicky Shorey and Gareth McAuley are making good progress from “slight strains”. On the downside, the Baggies boss revealed that Paul Scharner is a doubt with an Achilles injury and Billy Jones is struggling to overcome a hamstring problem.

Mick McCarthy revealed he has a few injury concerns ahead of this evening’s FA Cup replay with Birmingham. Roger Johnson, Matt Jarvis and Kevin Foley are all likely to be sidelined, with the Wolves boss hopeful the trio will be ready for the weekend home clash against Aston Villa. McCarthy also admitted Dave Edwards was subbed off at Spurs due to a lack of match fitness, while in-form Steven Fletcher will be rested this evening to ensure his availability for the Villa showdown.

Ryan Shotton has today revealed he is on course for a comeback this weekend against West Brom. Shotton missed out last time round at Anfield after failing a fitness test on his ankle but is making steady progress and expects to be available to face Roy Hodgson’s men at the Britannia.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Will have to sleep on it. If I sell it frees up funds, but the price rise makes it hard to swap back later on if not Nani falls in price several times.

now i hate to bore you, but i'm going to ask you for a rmt!

    lindegaard, howard

    senderos, shawcross, cahill, enrique, simpson

    silva, walters, dyer, gerrard, bale

    aguero, rvp, best

thought i'd put lindegaard as my gk pick every week, then if he doesn't play at least i'll have howard to fall back on? is defence a bit thin?

Do you think those are good differential options?

    a) Lampard instead of Silva

    b) Skrtel instead if Enrique

Does anyone have the guts to play 5-4-1?? I bet it's possible to score well with it, would just never risk setting my team up to try and make it work! Any WC takers who have nothing left to lose? 😀

Sorry lost on previous page, can anyone help on this? Thanks.

Is it worth doing Drenthe > Sessegnon for a 4 point hit?
I have exactly enough in the bank to do it, so it probably wont be an option next gameweek.
Then I can bench one of my defenders and play Sess instead of my current gameweek team below.

    Vorn
    Enrique BAE Simpson Evans
    Bale Nani Siva
    Fletcher RVP Aguero

No...if you´ve had Drenthe this long this is the week to play his ass. He´s due to explode, lets just hope it´s not only in the form of getting penalty kick points. The will not be able to keep him out of the box with a fair run one on one.

As a City fan I really cannot fathom why no one ever mentions Clichy for investment. He comes in at a significantly cheaper price than Kompany or Richards, and he is most certainly Mancini's preferred option at left back. I'd be willing to stick my neck out and say that over the rest of the season he will play just as many games as Richards. (They'll both get rested/rotated every now and again)

He will not play as many games as Richards.
Richards plays every game when fit, he's just so injury prone.
Clichy will always have Lolarov there to rotate.

yes but the most you can hope from him is 6 points on a good week.

He's a decent shout but with Mancini's undying love for Kolorov he is a rotation risk at times. I'd go with Lescott as he has that place nailed down for the next few weeks at least.

I've convinced myself about 80% to get Dempsey in for Bale. Spurs have struggled to create chances over the last couple of months and with the matches they've got coming up (mcy, liv, NEW, ars, MUN all in the next 6 games) I really struggle to see them scoring more goals.

If Ba & Cisse form a good partnership at the ACON, them coming back to Newcastle could be formidable with Best & Ameobi also in the mix. Pardew is looking more impressive as the weeks go by.

That sounds like a great idea. Fulham. Newcaslte & Swansea rotation and keep the big 2 in regularly.

You happy avoiding Huth & Cahill long term or depending on how they do in the next month?

Hey guys rate my WC team please

    Sorenson Vorm
    Shotton-Richards-Enrique-Simpson-Evans
    Sess-Silva-Walters-Dempsey-Bale
    V.Persie-Sturridge-Fletcher

My WC team 6.8 Million in the back. Brought in Fletcher for Aguero as I fancy him more over the coming weeks, then do the Fletcher- Ba. Thinking about upgrading some of the defence (Shotton-Huth or Simpson -RTaylor), but want to leave a sizeable chunk to play with through the weeks. Even considering the Sess>>Mclean to free up more funds to make that super defence.

    Any ideas?

I know, Bale will earn that place this week 😀

Only thing I am thinking is Sess>Mclean but i'll have 9 million in the bank.. bit of a waste

Looks like your post got jinxed by "You've got the tallest striker in the league in your front line."

Which three of these would you start this GW..

    Richards, Enrique, Cahill, Kelly, Simpson

    ???

Also would you play four of them and drop Valencia from midfield??

Face in palm at some off the advice you have been given.

      Cahill, Enrique, Kelly

      Start Richards as first Sub.

Spurs are likely to score against City, where as Norwich are less likely to score against Chelsea. If Cahill doesn't start then Richard will be the first sub on. Hope that helps 🙂
