Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek Twenty Eight

Trudging down the disciplinary corridors of power to find their fate this week, like naughty schoolboys destined for the headmaster, are a Jamaican veteran of Premier League spells at Portsmouth, Southampton and more recently Stoke City, and a Swedish international with over one hundred appearances for West Bromwich Albion.

First up is Stoke’s Ricardo Fuller, whose ill timed kick out at Branislav Ivanovic early in Saturday’s loss at Stamford Bridge resulted in a red card from referee Andre Marriner. Having been on the end of a strong challenge from the Serbian, Fuller could legitimately have gone to ground and may even have got a favourable decision, but in the end his rash stamp – labelled “stupid” and “ridiculous” by his manager Tony Pulis – forced a decision the other way and spared Ivanovic any censure of his own. Fuller will now miss the weekend FA Cup tie at Liverpool and Premier League games at Spurs and home to Manchester City. Jonathan Walters is seemingly set to reprise his support striker role with the imminent return of Matthew Etherington to the wing.

Next in line for the carpet, thanks to two yellow cards in the 2-0 defeat to Manchester United is West Brom defender Jonas Olsson. Having been booked early in the second half for a foul on goalscorer Wayne Rooney, Olsson was then guilty of a lunge on his strike partner Javier Hernandez in the 66th minute and duly saw the red card produced. Roy Hodgson will now be without his regular centre-back for the trip to Wigan at the weekend, meaning either  a rare start for England U21 defender Craig Dawson, or a reshuffling of Liam Ridgwell into the centre with Nicky Shorey in at left-back.

Finally, taking a seat just outside the headmaster’s office amongst the leafy ferns and sweet perfume of his secretary, is Arsenal’s French international defender, Laurent Koscielny. As we’ve previously reported, there have been some complications with Koscielny’s disciplinary record, thanks mainly to a mis-attributed card in the New Years Eve win over QPR in which centre-back partner, Thomas Vermaelen was reportedly booked, only for the caution to be reassigned to Koscielny a week later. That extra booking made the yellow received in the last gasp Monday night win over Newcastle his ninth, and he will now balance on the tightrope for the next few games hoping to reach the Easter cut off on April 8 without further cautions. After that date the threshold is raised up to 15 bookings.

GAMEWEEK 29 BANS

  • Ricardo Fuller (STO) – 1 Red for violent conduct (second of 3 matches)
  • Lee Cattermole (SUN) – 1 Red for foul and abusive language and 10 Yellows (third of 4 matches)
  • Stéphane Sessègnon (SUN) – 1 Red for violent conduct (last of 3 matches)
  • Nathan Dyer (SWA) – 1 Red for serious foul play (second of 3 matches)
  • Jonas Olsson (WBA) – 1 Red for 2 Yellows (1 match)

    Morning All

    Krul (Bogdan)
    Skrtel Enrique JEvans (Simpson Shotton)
    Bale McLean Dempsey Miyaichi (YaYa)
    Suarez RVP Rooney

This team has pushed me to the top of my mini league, now what to do with it???
Should I stick this week given the fixtures?

0.5 in the pocket and 1FT

Thinking Skrtel > Kompany next week?

Either this week or next week I'd tell one of your Liverpool defenders to take a walk and maybe give Tommy V a shout. Back at CB he should provide much more a threat going forward, solid fixtures too.

    Repost from last thread..

    Keen for a tinker/knee jerk.

    Schwarzer (Miggers)
    Jevans BAE Skrtel (kompaneh, Caulker)
Miyaichi, Dempsey, Bale, Tony V (Siggy)
    RVP, Rooney, Holt.

With 3.5 in the bank, any moves where a 4 point hit looks justified?

They were better offensively definitely but were horrid at the back. Any other on-form attack with a good manager would have murdered them.

I can see RDM trying to do the basics right, like staying solid at the back. Well - here's hoping.

Napoli are suceptible in the air as you would see if you had seen the Calgiari match,
a hattrick scored from headers rarely is done.

      3 Gerrard
      2 Suarez
      1 Skrtel/Carragher, possibly Enrique/Kelly

Kelly had 2 shots off target which will probably cancel out his assist. Enrique had one on target but also got booked in the last minute. It seemed like Skrtel made a lot of clearances so he'd be my best bet for the last bonus point.

I suppose ba/silva are your priorities if they don't produce this g/w. I'm in similar boat and I might jus let it ride for 2 ft next week. Looking back at it Stevie woulda been nice last night(silva>Stevie) but hindsight is great and I didn't have the ⚽⚽ to do it. Don't get me wrong it's not as tho I think he'll rip it up till end of season, game time / injuries major factors but that kinda Punt is in essence what we are striving for, the chance the gamble the thrill we are looking for.

    Team for GW29 currently:

    Schwarzer SWA (H)

    Evans WOL (A) / Enrique QPR (A) / Simpson NOR (H)

    Bale STO (H) / Miyaichi AVL (A) / Dempsey SWA (H) / Silva CHE (H)

    Rooney WOL (A) / Van Persie EVE (A) / Ba NOR (H)

Bench: Sorenson, Moses WBA (H), Kelly SWA (H), Taiwo LIV (H)

    1FT, 1.6M in Bank

Decided that I am going to ship Silva out, and was all set to bring in one of Valencia/Young/Nani this week, given the uncertainty around these three would it be to knee jerky to bring in Gerrard given liverpool's good fixtures?

Any transfer I make I want to leave enough money to do taiwo -> sagna the week after (all the above do).

    Thoughts?

yeah wasn't sure about moses or miyachi (had moses on bench this week) planned on starting simpson to spread the risk so wouldn't be doubling on fulham defence although it's tempting given fulham's home record.

I don't think silva has been brining in the points to justify his price tag and with other mids having good fixtures (and potentially brining in big scores) I don't want to miss out...

Liverpool will play FA Cup after the deadline, I wouldn't risk getting in any of their players this week. Plus, QPR will be well and rested, whereas Liverpool has played 3 games within a week. I would keep Silva if I were you, Chelsea are in the same situation as Liverpool when they travel to City... they've also played 3 games in a week and City Chelsea are historically pretty high scoring games.

    Day 1 Result-

Two winners and three places from ten horses across seven races. Not great, but enough to turn a small profit due to the type of bets I placed.

    Day 2 Tips.

    1.30

Extremely open, first ten in the betting have claims, I like the look of Harry the Viking (6/1) and Alfie Spinner (8/1) to be able to stay the distance.

    2.05

Worth taking on the favourite here, I expect Monskland (9/2) or Batonnier (6/1) to win it.

    2.40

Grand Crus (6/4) was considering running the Gold Cup before plumping for this race. Bobs Worth (10/3) will run it close though and is worth an each way.

    3.20

I can not see past Sizing Europe (Evens) Look at a double with this and Grand Crus, with a saver on Bobs Worth.

    4.00

Get me out of Here (8/1) should go off as favourite (currently 2nd F) expect the odds to shorten over the course of the day. Featherbed Lane (14/1) is worth an each way flutter.

    4.40

Kazlian (8/1), the favourite Vendor looks strong but is too short in a race of this ilk.

    5.15

New Years Eve (5/1) has great claims, I like Sir Johnson (12/1) as well and expect a place at least.

    Other

Napoli at 7/2 tonight to beat Chelsea is HUGE.

Yeah mate I won decent amount on sprinter sacre so lumped on hurracaine fly. Just ended up pacing small bets after that didn't come in. Loads of people must have been in similar position though, it was heavily fancied. Sprinter Sacre is a class act, absoutely show boated to his win y'day!

Well my bet of the day would be a win double on Grand Crus and Sizing Europe at 5/1.

You can protect yourself by backing Bobs Worth e/w as well.

However, if you are looking for a little each way dabble I would look at Harry the Viking or Monksland.

Also, Batonnier has just been declared a n/r in the 2.05.

I sold Suarez but I couldn't afford Ba to Rooney so the decision was made for me. But I'd probably still go for him to Rooney as Ba has a better (on paper) fixture this week.

Yeah, if I did Ba to Rooney I'd have to take a hit on downgrading a mid to be able to afford it. I'm just hesitating because Liverpool's fixtures are great, and Suarez looked promising last night.

Suarez has made a season out of looking promising, but he doesn't score well. Those that brought him in for the DGW will have either already shipped him out (like me) or will wait until after qpr/WIG to do it. Ba will be sold by a few after the NOR. I can see a fire sale on both - have already joined the Suarez one and will probably take part in the Ba one, too.

Morning guys, what to do this week?

    Krul (Mignolet)
    Enrique Evans Richards (Santon, Taiwo)
    Sigg Dempsey Bale Ryo (Walters)
    Ba RVP Rooney

I have only one free, my plan is eventually to downgrade Ba so i can upgrade Walters to Valencia. Obviously need a defensive change or two with Taiwo likely coming out for Ridgewell and possibly Richards out to.

This weeks decisions. I need to do two transfers to get Rooney in with a 4pt hit.
    Should I do?

    1. Suarez and Ba to Rooney and other (possibly Pogrebnyak)
    2. Suarez and Enrique to Rooney and other (Possibly kelly (Ful) with Whitbread - Cahill next week)
    3. Ba and Baines to Rooney and other (Possibly kelly (Ful) with Whitbread - Cahill next week)

Thoughts welcome. Being so far behind at this stage in the season I'm not bothered about taking hits.
