Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek Twenty Eight

Trudging down the disciplinary corridors of power to find their fate this week, like naughty schoolboys destined for the headmaster, are a Jamaican veteran of Premier League spells at Portsmouth, Southampton and more recently Stoke City, and a Swedish international with over one hundred appearances for West Bromwich Albion.

First up is Stoke’s Ricardo Fuller, whose ill timed kick out at Branislav Ivanovic early in Saturday’s loss at Stamford Bridge resulted in a red card from referee Andre Marriner. Having been on the end of a strong challenge from the Serbian, Fuller could legitimately have gone to ground and may even have got a favourable decision, but in the end his rash stamp – labelled “stupid” and “ridiculous” by his manager Tony Pulis – forced a decision the other way and spared Ivanovic any censure of his own. Fuller will now miss the weekend FA Cup tie at Liverpool and Premier League games at Spurs and home to Manchester City. Jonathan Walters is seemingly set to reprise his support striker role with the imminent return of Matthew Etherington to the wing.

Next in line for the carpet, thanks to two yellow cards in the 2-0 defeat to Manchester United is West Brom defender Jonas Olsson. Having been booked early in the second half for a foul on goalscorer Wayne Rooney, Olsson was then guilty of a lunge on his strike partner Javier Hernandez in the 66th minute and duly saw the red card produced. Roy Hodgson will now be without his regular centre-back for the trip to Wigan at the weekend, meaning either  a rare start for England U21 defender Craig Dawson, or a reshuffling of Liam Ridgwell into the centre with Nicky Shorey in at left-back.

Finally, taking a seat just outside the headmaster’s office amongst the leafy ferns and sweet perfume of his secretary, is Arsenal’s French international defender, Laurent Koscielny. As we’ve previously reported, there have been some complications with Koscielny’s disciplinary record, thanks mainly to a mis-attributed card in the New Years Eve win over QPR in which centre-back partner, Thomas Vermaelen was reportedly booked, only for the caution to be reassigned to Koscielny a week later. That extra booking made the yellow received in the last gasp Monday night win over Newcastle his ninth, and he will now balance on the tightrope for the next few games hoping to reach the Easter cut off on April 8 without further cautions. After that date the threshold is raised up to 15 bookings.

GAMEWEEK 29 BANS

  • Ricardo Fuller (STO) – 1 Red for violent conduct (second of 3 matches)
  • Lee Cattermole (SUN) – 1 Red for foul and abusive language and 10 Yellows (third of 4 matches)
  • Stéphane Sessègnon (SUN) – 1 Red for violent conduct (last of 3 matches)
  • Nathan Dyer (SWA) – 1 Red for serious foul play (second of 3 matches)
  • Jonas Olsson (WBA) – 1 Red for 2 Yellows (1 match)

Rooney (c) Ba (vc) at the moment
RVP is always hard to ignore, as is Dempsey at home, Bale (STO) is also a good shout I reckon, but has no form.
        Will probably leave as is.

I think ManC - Chelsea could be a high scoring game. I only have Silva and Mata though and wouldn't want to captain either. So, it's back to RVP or Rooney, toss a coin. I would have added Ba a few weeks back but not now. I'm about to sell him though so he'll probably get a hattrick!

    Current Team:

    Mignolet Kenny
    Evans BAE Skrtel Caulker Simpson
    Bale Valencia Silva Moses Sess
    Suarez RVP Ba

    Thinking of this week:
    Suarez > Rooney
Sess > Under 5.3 Mid (thinking Miyachi atm)

    then next week
    BAE > Kompany

This seem like a good idea?

hmm... kept money in bank to replace Suarez with Rooney this week with my 1FT, but am now thinking of keeping Suarez for the next few. Rooney is essential and so would need to take a hit to get him in. So, my choice is Holt/Nani to Rooney/Song.
I know that Nani is most likely to play this weekend, but the rotation of the 3 Utd mids is going to be a headache. Based on this I would rather have lower price of the 3 mids (Valencia).... so, for this week... take the four point hit to get a front 3 of Rooney, RVP, Suarez (and getting read of Holt - bad punt) and then next week make a straight swop from Yaya to Valencia.
    Make sense?

Don't get song whatever you do. Go Miyaichi/Morrison/Sigurdsson/McClean over him

Also consider that Holt has Wolves at home the round after next.

        Good advice there.
Already have Siggy, so will look at others. Ryo is a tempter. He would most probably be bench fodder anyway, but may be needed in next few gameweeks before Siggis fixtures ease up and become nice.
I got Holt in on my wc with a view to Wigan and Wolves home game, but he was taken off early against Wigan and may fall foul of Lamberts rotation for a few weeks now.
Either way, it is safer to have Rooney, RVP and Suarez as a front three for the next 3 weeks, so this kind of makes my decision.
Ryo could quite easily score the same as Nani in the next 3 weeks I suppose (given that nani's gametime is suspect), and Rooney RVP Suarez should score more that Holt RVP Suarez/Rooney, so I think the logic is there.

Bringing in Ryo would also allow me to absorb another price rise on Rooney tonight and await the outcome of Europa tomorrow, just in case Rooney gets injured.

-12 point hit paid off! 🙂

    Aguero (1) > Rooney (13)
    Ba (2) > Suarez (10)
    Kompany (0) > Squirtle (7)
    Sess (0) > Pilkington (1)

Not meant to be a brag post, but I love it when a (mad) plan comes together!
Anyone else have similar hits work out for them this season?

Yeah I thought someone would say that 😛
That was actually to fund the top two transfers, so this couldn't have happened if I didn't do that. Also saved me from losing money on Sess as well. This would look even better if I chose Moses over Pilkington, but hey I'm not complaining! 🙂

I took a 4 point hit. Aguero > Rooney, Ba > Suarez and Sess > Ryo so all paid off. I also left Moses on the bench which is the only bitter pill of the GW.

      Ba (2) > Holt (0)
      Senderos (2) > Skrtel (7)

Depends on if you want to take a gamble or not.

      Mata often flatters to deceive
Dempsey is a solid choice at home not so great away
      Yaya plays a little deep
      Gerrard is injured alot
      Walcott is inconsistent.

So toss a pick two and toss a coin.

I don't know much about horse racing but 2 of the 3 horses put down yesterday suffered leg fractures. Can horses not recover from such injuries? Obviously they are finished racing but can they not be treated and nursed back to health? Or is that never going to happen in an industry where they are bred to make money and a horse that can't race again is only costing money?
