Preamble

The Pre-Match Preamble – Gameweek Thirty One

You know how it is. You’re a multi-millionaire footballer, paid six figures a week to do magic things with your feet. So, when you get one trapped whilst playing on a child’s bike, you naturally decide to treat the unfortunate scrape with that spray you got from Boots. Okay, so the foot is burning and starting to look like bubble wrap but I’m sure if we just keep on spraying, everything will be fine.

We’ve all been there. Surely it’s a bit harsh to brandish such an act as “stupid”. Come on Roberto, you’ll be saying you don’t trust Mario Balotelli next.

Take some deep breaths. You need a nice walk to calm you down. Enjoy a pleasant stroll with us Fantasy managers while we pick the bones out of the morning’s predicted lineups…

Not surprisingly, Sergio and his chemically cindered foot are missing from this morning’s speculative starting lineups. Indeed, it’s arguably Roberto Mancini’s solution to Aguero’s antics and his misguided Mario that’s the most interesting item on the agenda in a Gameweek that otherwise, seems pretty cut and dry.

We’re half expecting Mancini to turn to Carlos Tevez to plug the gap and help revive the dozing City title challenge. With Sunderland at the Etihad, Mancini will surely be expecting to have to break down a well-drilled resistance from a Martin O’Neill 4-5-1 which will look to strangle the weaving of David Silva and Samir Nasri and outmuscle the raids of Yaya Toure.

The Ivorian could be the key figure – hence Toure’s inclusion in this week’s Scout Picks. Mancini may be forced into a 4-5-1 if he’s reluctant to throw Balotelli in the mix again. Toure will likely be the attacking force from midfield charged with supporting lone striker Edin Dzeko if that does prove to be the case.

However, the press, in the majority, go with a pairing of Dzeko and Balotelli – only the Independent and the Times are brave enough to predict that the City boss will put faith in a 4-5-1, leaving both Balotelli and Tevez benched. The Argentine fails to get a look-in across the board this morning, with the press boys showing understandable caution on his chances of earning a first start following his return to the fold.

Our predicted lineup goes along with that view but the introduction of Tevez for either Dzeko or Balotelli looks highly likely, particularly if the Black Cat’s resistance proves resolute. Tevez can do damage in twenty minutes – and with Aguero and Baltotelli causing a frown to scrawl across the distinguished brow, the script is written for Carlos to bring the smile back to the face of Mancini.

Elsewhere, we look pretty settled. Some holding the talents of Ashley Young will be nervous come Monday night’s United teamsheet, but we’d expect to see his name along with Antonio Valencia’s, on Sir Alex’s latest lineup. Off this morning’s papers, only the Telegraph dare suggest that Danny Welbeck will be shifted left with Young left twiddling on the Ewood timber.

Concerns are few and far between for most, then – a rarity. My only dilemma is arguably a good one to have – do I bench Ryo Miyaichi or opt for Gylfi Sigurdsson at the Lane. My head says that Sigurdsson has it in him to punish a benching, although having lost every home game in 2012, Ryo is surely in line to torment the Wovles defence. The luxury of two decent budget buys vying for the last spot in the side – it’s a pain in the neck. Maybe that spray under the sink will help?

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Good afternoon my learned friends.
So, which team do you think has the edge this week?

    Skrtel - BAE - Raylor
    Sess - Song
    Pappis

    Evans - Cahill - Walker
    Valencia - Walcott
    Pog

Double United defence is the way forward. Look at the Wolves game, 5 goals and none for Rooney, United can get goals from anywhere. De Gea is nailed on and we are good value for CS,

we will see. I don't see owt else pressing in my team given my current transfer plans, Santon is gone for Kaboul in 35, Dempsey for Sess in 34. Nothing else stands for me. My keeper rotation has does nothing but frustrate me.

I also see no reason why De Gea should be dropped, he has played well, we only have PL to play for, it's not like he'll need a rest.

    GW30 2011 Rank: 4,229
    GW30 2012 Rank: 47,312

What a real slog of a season this has been. Last year i managed to reach the top 1k, what's a realistic target for this year, top 10k?

    I needed a player for gw34.
Balo was hauled of at ht last week and aguero is injured.
Tevez at home could be better captain material that rooney and rvp.
    That is all 😛

I think it's a good, ballsy choice. Wait till Bal4tom or whatever his name gets on here. He'll rip your decision to bits.

I'd have no problem with Tevez if he was 4-3 million cheaper.

It'd have been a great shout if Mancini didn't say Tevez would not start.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini does not trust Balotelli

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini admits he does not trust striker Mario Balotelli, but will continue to play the enigmatic Italian.
Balotelli made a surprise appearance at a press conference at former club Inter Milan this week, and was pictured arguing with Mancini on Wednesday.
"No, I don't trust Mario. No-one trusts Mario," Mancini told BBC Sport.
Mancini also hit back at Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson saying Carlos Tevez's return is "desperate".
On Wednesday, pictures were circulated of an apparent bust-up between Mancini and Balotelli at City's Carrington training complex.
    Mario's antics
Mancini played down the row, but admitted he did not know what to expect from the unpredictable 21-year-old.
"He is a top player," said Mancini
"He can do everything. He can score two goals against Arsenal next week. But he can also take a red card.
"Until now he did well and in the last eight games he could be important for us. But trust him? Never."
City are three points behind leaders United with the Manchester clubs battling it out to win the Premier League title. Balotelli chose to spend two days off in Italy last week and gatecrashed new Inter Milan boss Andrea Stramaccioni's first press conference.
Mancini clarified his striker's presence at the press conference, but admitted Balotelli needed to grow up, with the incident the latest in a string of bizarre antics.
"At the press conference he was there like a journalist. It is better you ask him why but he had two days off," said Mancini.

    Balotelli gatecrashes Inter press conference
"I can't put him in his house for two days.
"Probably the moment will arrive when he will know what he should do when he has two days off.
"I hope he will grow out of it because he needs to know this is his job. He needs to work and rest. But he is young."
Meanwhile, Mancini disputed Ferguson's suggestion that bringing back Tevez was an act of desperation.
"It is not important for me what Sir Alex says," said Mancini.
"I have big respect for him. I'm sure what I say is not important to him. I think the only thing that is important for him and for me is to win the championship.
"Carlos Tevez is a Manchester City player. He wanted to leave the club in January, but this was not possible.
"Now he is again a big player for us. Desperation for what? We were without Tevez for seven months and dominated this championship. I don't think so. He is a City player and maybe he can help us in the last six or seven games."

Had the luxury of 2 main rivals not having Rooney so just having him is good enough this week for me.

I think it's better to look forward to it than not.
If injuries strike, then make a new plan.
Better that then getting to GW34 and having 7 players with 1 FT...

Tough choices next week. Siggy at home to Toon, Demps at Bolton, Walcott home to City. Not sure yet. I'd like to play him. See how Ba gets on, may bench him and play 5 across midfield.
