So…stick or twist? That’s the quandary facing Fantasy owners of Robert Lewandowski in the McDonald’s game after the Polish forward grabbed a goal and 12 point captaincy return in this evening’s 1-1 draw with Greece.

The Borussia Dortmund man was quick out the blocks, grabbing the opener after just 17 minutes and vindicating the 44% who voted him top of our Matchday 1 Captain Poll. Nodding home a cross from Jakub Blaszczykowski, Lewandowski looked primed to notch more after Greece were reduced to 10 men but the co-hosts failed to make their advantage pay before Wojciech Szczesny’s dismissal made the numbers even.

With Holland squaring up to Denmark tomorrow and Germany facing Portugal, there are plenty of options to consider. We rolled out the Captain Poll for Matchday 2 just after 5pm and already Robin Van Persie is an overwhelming favourite for tomorrow’s matches, acquiring 69% of the votes cast so far. Wesley Sneijder, Ibrahim Afellay and Arjen Robben also look in strong form heading into Saturday’s early kick-off, with Sneijder just sneaking into second place.

Later tomorrow evening, Germany’s clash with Portugal affords plenty of options, too. Mesut Ozil, Thomas Muller and Lucas Podolski all look certain starters for Joachim Low’s side, while uncertainty still remains over who will lead the line – Miroslav Klose or Mario Gomez? Cristiano Ronaldo is also likely to pick up some support prior to tomorrow’s deadline in the McDonald’s game but one thing’s for sure – if it’s filled with half the incident of this afternoon’s encounter, we’re in for an entertaining day.

    Few things:
    Any good value bets for tomorrow's games? or bets in general?
    If a wildcard is played tonight then the transfers will only take effect for the next of games, yes?

      I like Germany to beat Portugal on the handicap i.e. by more than one goal.

      Think Portugal are vastly overrated, in poor form, and up against the best team in the tournament.

    Would love some advice. Afellay is in my starting 11, if he doesnt play tomorrow can I then sub him after that days matches for a player from a team who has still to play on the Sun/Mon. Im just checking that when it says you can sub a player who hasnt already played it isnt referring to their teams to their match day passing.

      You can play 1 transfer wildcard during the tournament. All transfers made in the Matchday your wildcard is played will be without points deduction.

      Tough, but I'd keep one Dutch man and twist.

      See how Ronaldo does tomorrow, and Iniesta/Xavi the day after, and choose then. I'd be more inclined to hold onto RVP though if push came to shove.

        It's 60/40 in favor of RVP because of his penalties and central striker role, but I think Germany have just as much chance of scoring against Portugal, if not more than Holland.

    I have Shirokov as captain, thought of sticking but then I saw lots of player scored 8pts today..guess it’s not that hard to get an 8..
    I have Sneijder, Ozil, RVP, Muller,Iniesta and Benzema yet to play..what do you think ? Sticking or Change to Rvp ? Then I have Iniesta on day 3, then i have benzema on day 4 ??

      A bunch of Russians who scored 4 goals. It's probably going to be the highest scoring game of the match day, not to mention the fact the points came from just those 4 players. No one in the first game scored more than 6.

    Am I being a bit thick... or is it the case that when it says this on the McDonalds site:

    TEAM SELECTIONS AND CAPTAIN CHOICE CAN ONLY BE VIEWED AFTER THE LAST SUBSTITUTION WINDOW OF THE ROUND HAS CLOSED.

    I can still determine who the person had as their team captain for the week by comparing their points total to the sum of the player points? if its the same, then they're a bit simple and didn't captain someone for today's games. If its different, its usually easy to determine which player must have had his score doubled to make up the total points?

    am i missing something here?!?!

      I enjoyed the first games, Shirokov captain is a dilemma, but a nice dilemma. Will probably end up with 2 defenders, but glad i didn't have Chesney. Also won £30 (from £10) on a Pol-gre draw so happy with that.

      Cannot tell you how long I wasted last night on the Dzagoev vs Shirokov decision.

      Pretty happy I went with Dzagoev in the end, but the real disappointment/regret is that we all knew they were both quality/affordable/likely to score, why didn't we include both?

      Boateng will play, I think. Lars Bender didn't play right-back once for Leverkusen this season, and it would be bizarre for Löw to risk him there against Ronaldo. The German coach is angry with Boateng for the late night incident with the model and wants to make him sweat a bit.

      Klose broke off training early today due to pains in his ankle joint, but this is just a precaution. It looks as if he will start upfront instead of Gomez, and Mertesacker will flounder around the penalty spot like a beached whale instead of Hummels.

        When you think about it you are gambling that either RVP or Ibra will score in a football match against non world-beating opponents.

        Additionally , you get the fun of watching your captain play again, and thats what its all about after all.

          If I had RVP/Sneijder I'd be doing it without a moments hesitation. However I've got Robben, which in hindsight is not as an attractive proposition.

    Evening everyone mixed feelings about today so annoying that when you have 2 teams in mind you always pick the wrong one my original team had both Lewandowski and Shirokov also had the Russian keeper (although at the time was Akinfeev) got rid of it due to too many starter doubts (influenced by Russian keeper and Mandzukic) so enviably chose Sczezney in goal, that being said I would have probably captained Lew over Shirikov so that worked in my favour. Having read a few comments I’m going to stick with him fwiw.

    2 questions 1 everyone who is wildcarding are you doing it now and 2 can you do the transfers then hit the wildcard button later in the week so not to lose points (and confuse your opponent who sees you losing points left right and centre till you hit the wildcard on the last day) or do you have to press the wildcard straight away?

      Not very good.

      Defense is weak, lopsided with Polanski and Andrews. I'd downgrade Sneijder for game 2 and level out the money on Polanski.

      You can see the trend by looking through player filters. It's exactly the same format as FPL
