Watchlist

The Watchlist – James Morrison

With two wins and a draw from a tough opening schedule, Steve Clarke has turned a few heads as the new man in charge at West Brom. The Baggies first three Gameweeks, which saw them welcome Liverpool and Everton to the Hawthorns in addition to a trip to Spurs, had many Fantasy managers reluctant to invest early on but, with just two points dropped, their assets are starting to pick up plenty new suitors:

Mainly, the focus has been on defence. With a couple of clean sheets already in the bag, Fantasy managers have snapped up the likes of Gareth McAuley, Liam Ridgewell and Ben Foster in their numbers as a source of mid-price cover, while the likes of City and United – without a single clean sheet between them – toil to justify their costlier price tags at the back.

James Morrison, however, has flown under the radar. The Baggies midfielder has a mere 1% ownership in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), despite returning a goal, an assist and a couple of bonus points over his opening trio of matches. Currently sitting on 18 points, he’s racked up more than Foster and is only one behind Ridgewell for West Brom, while in terms of midfielders, he’s just a single point worse off than the likes of Santi Cazorla, Marouane Fellaini and Kevin Nolan – all far more popular picks, each with their own bandwagons to boast of.

While consistency of selection has plagued the Baggies forwards, with only Shane Long starting the first three matches, Morrison’s place in Clarke’s midfield currently looks assured. Stationed in “the hole” behind the Irishman, he has played all but nine minutes of the season so far – Long, on the other hand, has been subbed off midway through the second-half in all three matches as Clarke freshens up his attack late on.

Priced at 6.0 in FPL and 6.4 in the Sky Sports game, the Scot looks a real mid-price differential to consider over the next few Gameweeks. With Clarke’s in-form side welcoming (RG, QPR, SOT) to the Hawthorns in the next eight and with trips to (ful, avl, wig) also on the agenda, his propensity to pick up the points could well appeal to those Fantasy managers looking for something different from the template midfields currently doing the rounds on site.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Rather Ford.. I play real life football here in Canada. Passed up on countless Scholarship opportunities to go to the US full ride.

I currently play for a Greek Club Panathinaikos, we're on the verge of a 2nd promotion in a row after just starting the club 2yrs back.

    We're currently 8W 3T 1L with 33GF and 8GA.

Are people going to get WBA cover or do you already have the Baggies covered?

Both the form and fixtures (RDG, avl, QPR) boxes are ticked and it wouldn't be surprised if they kept 2 or 3 cleanies and "bagged" 5+ goals in these 3 games. As stated in this article, the obvious ones are the likes of Foster, Ridgewell and McCauley (don't have any yet) but attack seems to be hard to pick.

I think I might go Zab -> Ridgewell next week but I don't know if I want to waste a precious mid/fwd spot for a West Brom player.

If Popov taook Ridgewell's spot, Ridgewell can play in McCauley's spot... Ollson is the safest of our back four. My view is Popov is intially cover with the chance of the odd game, but I might be wrong...

Popov may threaten Ridgewell's spot and then Ridgewell and McAuley would be in competition for 1 spot. This might not happen though.

Could do - we've got a fair number of decent options across the pitch this year. El Ghannsay hasn't played much yet, but looks quality.

Morrison is safe enough. Mulumbu & Yacob are probably pretty safe (but not great FPL picks).

Morrison is the only really safe mid (and on current form a decent option).I'd avoid the forwards at the moment until any of them start getting 90minute appearances regularly - Lukaku/Odem could be good later...

If you pick Daniels in goal, you have an outside chance you have a goalie even if Foster gets injured. Although Myhill is most likely to play backup I guess.

Unsure about if Fletcher is worth the extra 1.0 over Lambert

I like Vert but Spurs defensively are a mess right now. Whether is AVB I don't know, they weren't exactly solid last year. But they seem to be hanging on against Norwich and West Brom at home, it's a worry if I had a spurs defender

It is pretty weak but it pays for the big 3 up top. I would probably downgrade Kagawa and use the money to strengthen the defence

Not anymore imo! City playing attacking football with 3 at the back most of the time! And Utd already having their fair share of injury probs at the back in particular...

I had them at the start of the season but have dropped both now I have wild-carded. To much rotation risk with man u keepers and same is true of city defence.

        All things good thanks.

I played my WC on the first week as is tradition here so I managed to get all the popular players before most and enjoyed the spoils for a week or two.

Looks like it will be difficult to get an edge for a few weeks until injuries set in and other players come into form.

Cheers lads. Zabaleta can play CB too as can (I think) Maicon? Wish Mancini would make up his mind if he's playing 3-5-2 , 3-4-1-2, 4-4-2, 4-3-3, Do Ray Me, whatever ! City's defence has been fairly shocking anyways but will improve and Zabaleta is good for the auld assist and the odd goal..

Really pleased I didn't wildcard. Nothing to be gained price wise and I'd have only tinkered. I think there's an international break after GW 7 which would be a great time to refresh the team. Anyone know if that's right?

Guys, I'm really confused regarding my 3rd striker (which I intend to play every week). So far my options are:
    Lambert or Graham, probably Fletcher.
Should I spend a bit extra and get Jelavic? Which of these 4 do you fancy to have a strong season?

Im leaning towards fletcher myself. He's set up to do very well at sunderland, proven finisher in a bad team last couple of years, better service now, little to no rotation risk, and probably will take penalties into the bargain.

He's there to do one thing and one tning only - put the ball in the net whatever way possible!

I also thought of including Fletcher, but am short of 1m and probably would have to ditch Baines:

        Begovic / Foster
Cuellar, Baines, Davies (SWA), Jenkinson (to Hughes after Sagna comes back), Demel
Cazorla, Hazard, Michu, Ben Arfa, Sterling
        RVP, Tevez, Lambert

I can do Cazorla -> YToure or Baines -> 6m def, but would really like to keep both in the team.

        What do you reckon?
