Watchlist

The Watchlist – Santi Cazorla

Since arriving at Arsenal from Malaga during the summer, Santi Cazorla has added his name to a raft of attacking midfielders Fantasy managers have been keeping a close eye on. As with the likes of the Premier League’s other new attacking recruits such as Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and Manchester United’s Shinji Kagawa, though, there was always an element of doubt before the season got under way; could these prestigious talents sparkle in the English top-flight and, as the old saying goes, were they able to cut it on a rainy Tuesday night match at Stoke?

Certainly from his opening two games, Cazorla’s talent was no longer in question as his slick passing and eye for goal from distance left Arsenal fans delighted and Fantasy managers licking their lips in anticipation of a flurry of points. From a Fantasy perspective doubts still remained, though, as his magnificent attacking play failed to unlock the Sunderland and Stoke defences as the Gunners registered back-to-back goalless draws.

In the Gameweek 3 trip to Liverpool, the flood gates opened and at last his potential as a key Fantasy asset was realised when the playmaker produced a goal, assist and two Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points to amass a Gameweek total of 13 points. A further assist for Cazorla followed in the Gameweek 4 demolition of Southampton, with yet another assist, plus two FPL bonus points, in last weekend’s 1-1 draw at the Etihad. By now the writing was well and truly on the wall for Cazorla, who has arrived in a burst of Spanish flair as a proven force to be reckoned with in the Premier League.

For the savvy Fantasy managers, who have been watching Cazorla’s underlying attacking statistics closely during the first part of the season, Gameweek 7 has long been pencilled in as Santi day, when Arsenal’s tough opening fixtures come to an end. After this weekend’s home clash with Chelsea, the prospects look full of promise for strong attacking returns for the Gunners throughout the rest of October (whm, nor, QPR).

There is even strong argument for drafting him in ahead of this run to catch Cazorla before his price rises even further. Initially costing 9.0 in FPL, he has already climbed by 0.3, with over 28,000 Fantasy managers snapping him up this week. There is every chance Cazorla, who is Arsenal’s top points scorer in the FPL game with 30 points, will also be able to unlock a resolute Chelsea defence.

In the Sky Sports game, where he is priced at 6.7m, he is also set to be a key asset having already amassed 43 points, the second highest among the game’s midfielders. In the Sky game Cazorla is arguably even more desirable as bonus points are awarded for successful passes, just one of a number of attributes the bedazzling little Spaniard possesses.

    Bottom of last post 🙁

Here’s an interesting one for Berba/Fletcher owners.

If Berba was at Sunderland and had Fletcher’s stats (ie. scored 4 from 4 and done not much else) and Fletcher was at Fulham and had Berba’s stats (ie. involved in lots of play and grabbed a couple and an assist) who would you choose?

Im guessing that most current Fletcher owners would want Berba and most Berba owners would still want Berba?

No. Defence is fine - can be improved slowly, you will still pick up cleanies from your existing ones. Hazard will be useful next week, switch to Cazorla after. I have Guthrie and want Puncheon but its a luxury and not necessary - would never play him anyway. Tevez is fine for now. Switching to Aguero would be pointless if you're doing it because of rotation fears - both will get rotated.

    Views on Mannone?

I could put him in for 2 weeks as i think Szczesny wont be fit for these next 2GW's

Means i could do: Torres> Podoski and Jenk> Baines and Vorm> Mannone (-4)

Only problem would be after the int break if he would keep his spot or if Szezesny would walk back in. Cause if he does i need to make another 2 changes (FT's only)

    Un problemo!

I think Aguero and Berbs are great choices and Fletcher has been very productive. I'm not so sure how long Fletcher can keep it up because a)Sunderland don't look that dangerous and b) Fletcher doesn't have penalties and isn't much of an assist threat to even out his points when he doesn't score...

It's a gamble, thankfully it's only until GW11 when i will get in him. Reasons for not having him is I've managed to spread value around my team and jump on all the risers to gain a profit and hence improve my squad. so basically am playing money over point ATM.

As for RVP the only game that is a big worry is Spurs at the weekend. He's a really good punt for the armband this week.

Silva I can understand but he's not played consistently well for City since last year.

Santi is awesome, but for me Hazard is the best mid curently in PL. He's so quick and king of assists. I have both of them trying to squeeze Silva too

Assist king? Stop looking at it from a FF perspective. As for his assists:

                  -2 Penalties
-One simple pass to Ivanovic on a breakaway where Reading pushed all their players AND GK up.
-One sideways pass to Gary Cahill who smashed it in from long range.

                  Hardly defence splitting passes.

    Hi party people!

Tevez & Gallas to Swans Davies and Aguero

    Tevez straight to Suarez.

Which one? Have 1 ft. Not just considering this week but October as well. Inclined to go Tevez to Suarez as a 4 point hit is costly for a defender, no? Although I could C Aguero and he could milk this town up!!!

    Thoughts?

    Hi Guys

Just wondering your thought on when/if to get Rooney back in team? Think he’ll be decent for the price once he’s back, especially as he’s dropped 0.3 since the start? Or think he’ll keep playing second-fiddle to RvP and be rotated?

I think palying with RvP, provided he plays in the hole, might give him the space he needs to rack up goals and assists aplenty – what you think?

Also, what's your opinions on this team and possible changes:

    Jass (Ruddy)
    Ivanoovic/Baines/Demel (Jenkinson/McCartney)
    Cazorla/Piennar/Yaya/Hazard (Kacaniklic)
    Tevez/Berba/Aguero

1 mill to pay with, WC already used before this week

Know I’ve gone a bit OTT on MC with the forwards, I’m just hoping Mancini will play both this week, though was tearing my hair out last night to see Tevez playing 120 mins.

Looking to get Rooney in when he’s back and fit before he rises in price again

    'Afternoon everyone.

I've had Ba in my team since last week and I'm keeping Tevez this week cause I want Berbatov for him (not interested in any other striker ATM) and I don't fancy him to do much against City personally so I'm saving the transfer.

As a Man United fan, next week does it make sense to do Ba > Berbatov and then switch back when Newcastles fixtures pick up again around GW 11? 'Cause I don't want to be watching our game thinking "Ba, please get on the scoresheet".

Makes sense? Or am I being daft. Do point me int he right direction by brethren. Cheers!

Given our jittery form (compared to last season) I would do what you have. So far I've got no Toon players and at present, not in a rush, will reassess after the Utd game. But yes, Berba/Ba switch in and out loooks a good idea

So, after a decent start to the campaign and after reading some of your thoughts, I fancied a good old fashioned fantasy gamble this week. I took two hits and ended up with this lot. How many points you reckon this week ...

    Jussi
    Baines Reid Tate
    Cazorla Barfa Fellaini Sterling
    Lambert Berbs Hazard

    Or

    Mignolet
    Jenkinson Demel Tate
    Cazorla Michu Fellaini Sterling
    Lambert RVP Hazard

Unless these 'crazy prices' include you getting money for having Tate then I'd suggest you get rid.

Basically, yeah. Hazard is classed as a forward. It's bonkers. Max team value - 100

        Mignolet - 11
        Baines - 19
        RVP - 27
        Cazorla / Barfa / Fellaini - 10
        Berbs - 16
        Lambert - 12
        Etc etc.

Tate is 3.3, I have to cut corners somewhere.
Think of it as Jussi/Jenkinson/Michu/RVP -Mignolet/Baines/Barfa/Berbs

Ridgewell and Cuellar injured screws me over.

Can field Baines Wilson and Demel, but need to field 1 more player with my formation this week.

    My options;

    a) play Michu against my stk def Wilson
    b) play Guthrie home to Newcastle, whilst totally unconvinced by him
    c) 4 point hit

    thoughts?

Michu could easily get decent points. Big lad, ball in the air a lot.

Ahoy! On WC. How much to beef up the defence…Considering:
    Begovic, JAASK
    Baines, Rafael, Gibbs, Clyne, RIDGEWELL
    OR
    Begovic, FOSTER
Baines, Rafael, Gibbs, Clyne, NELSON + extra 0.7 in the bank

Guess he is injury free...But what I was wondering was whether it was worth spending the extra $ on Olsson over Nelsen/Davies/4.0 defender when I already have Rafael, Gibbs and Baines?

Ok lads im happy with my squad im winning my league on 334 points

My only issue is mclean i already have fletcher and with sunderland not scoring many im thinking after this GW it may be time to sell james , my only drawback was the potenital DGW.

Would nolan for mclean be a good move after this GW given carrol will be back soon.

That sounds like a pretty solid plan....though I could see it going pear-shaped with McLean netting a few goals and giving you a headache...good luck anyway!

Was all set on Cole to Baines for this week.. now seeing that Ridgewell is possibly injured, I'm faced with having to play Demel and Hangeland.

Is it worth taking a 4 point hit to keep Cole and get Baines for Hangeland instead? I'd have to downgrade one of Torres or Tevez..

Reluctant as Cole's fixtures (apart from next week) are horrible whereas Hangeland's (after this week) aren't too bad.. might just hope Ridgewell plays and risk Hangeland if not.

Not for a hit but Torres needs to go as you say horrible fixtures.
