The Watchlist – David Silva

Following a three-match absence through injury, David Silva arrived back in the nick of time for Manchester City’s Gameweek 11 home clash with Spurs last weekend, giving his team a much needed fillip and Fantasy managers a reminder of his sublime talent.

As the game looked to be stuttering to a 1-1 draw it took an 87th minute spark of genius from Silva to win the match, as he brilliantly exchanged passes with substitute Edin Dzeko and his final, killer ball to the Bosnian was duly slammed home. In addition to the assist, Silva also received two Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points for his efforts in turning the game around and accrued a modest but significant seven-point total to herald a welcome top-flight return.

Since his opening day penalty miss at home to Southampton and subsequent 71st minute substitution Silva has struggled to recapture the stunning 2011/12 form that saw him rack up a total of 184 points. With just two assists to his name prior to Gameweek 11 it was clear that injury and fatigue, from a summer helping Spain win Euro 2012, were in danger of scuppering his third season in the English top flight. Two substitute cameos in his first four matches and only 90 minutes on three occasions so far this season have prompted managers to discard him in their droves and has seen his price plummet from 10.0 to just 9.3 in the FPL game. In the Sky Sports game, where no such price market exists, he is still the top priced midfielder at 9.0.

Until Sunday’s return, he had become something of a forgotten man for Fantasy managers, owned by only 4.6% of managers in the FPL game and 6.59% in the Sky game. It is a situation that is set to change over the coming weeks, however, as Silva seems certain for starts and is clearly re-energised from his short lay-off.

Silva also looks to be a key player among the ranks of premium priced midfielders for Gameweek 12, in which Man City host Aston Villa. In comparison to his Spanish countrymen Juan Mata and Santi Cazorla, he has not been selected to endure the international side’s gruelling 28-hour round trip for an away friendly with Panama and is primed to delight those managers who have recruited him this week.

Following the Aston Villa game though fixtures are not ideal for Man City (che, wig, EVE, MAN, new), but as arguably the key player in a team vying to retain the Premier League title, tricky opponents should not cause too much concern for Silva. His return is not only ideal for City, it also affords the opportunity to shake up our five-man midfields with a bona fide top Fantasy performer for those looking for an alternative to the likes of Mata, Cazorla, Gareth Bale and Eden Hazard in the premium bracket.

You have to keep Tevez this weekend. Do you really think Morrison will score against Chelsea? Is there a better chance he would than Walters against West Ham? I don't really like that transfer because he has Sunderland after that. Fulham away are poor for Walters. Just don't see either transfers as being vital.

Gotta keep tevez this weekend right? got a FT i dont really need so can swap him for berbs(the cash would help me long term too).. Berb got 2 bad fixtures after this week so i may be forced to keep tevez for 2 more weeks too

"wait & see" is the approach with tevez if you already got him.. he's such a headache to own (imagine if we're the real mancini!), that's why i'm glad that i ditched him earlier. berba will make a return to my team inevitably, but not now i guess.. maybe in GW15/16 at the expense of Ba.. but i'll be monitoring Giroud too.

Was getting him from the start, but decided ddg was safer pick 🙁

    gw13 rangel => rafael
    gw14 -
    gw15 baines => sagna + pienaar => walcott or ba => suarez

Or even smalling, he's uber cheap and sould get games ow at oth centre half and right back when rafa is rested. Dont fancy utd to keep many cleanies without vidic unfortunately, and therein lies the prolem... Rafa will get you goals and assists galore as he's basically a right winger

I'm thinking Rafael as well... the way SAF is always talking about him I'm thinking he has that RB position nailed down and will be rested for the remaining two CL games and play in PL. He's by far the biggest attacking threat in Man Utd defense, even if Evans might get a goal or two on corners.

it's either suarez or sterling for liverpool Cover, as you said. if you are sold on berba, then have faith in your strikeforce as it's lethal enough. a lot of other midifelders are valuable at gerrard's price.

Fletch has to go....even a triple gameweek wouldn't help beacuase he simply isn't getting the service. I held on far too long with him and tried to convince myself and others on here that he would come good again but he didn't and most probably won't. Berba/Ba/Giroud all better options.

Thinking of ditching Aguero to fund Pienaar -> Fellaini. Thoughts on who is best to bring in?

    a) Berb
    b) Ba
    c) Suarez
    d) Giroud

Berb is looking good; Ba an injury doubt and form a little off; Suarez might be best in theory but both he and Fellaini are on 4 yellows, which is dangerous; Giroud looks good but probably to be avoided for 3 weeks till the fixtures improve.

So, is Berb the best option? Anyone else?

    Wenger on Arteta's penalty miss:

"Of course we had a penalty with the last kick of the match but I don't blame Mikel Arteta for not scoring. Missing penalties is part of the game. When it comes to penalties Arteta is No 1 on our list and Cazorla is second."

Maybe Bale and Giroud, although I always seem to be avoiding Bale. Not in great scoring form of late, and I'm just waiting on the inevitable hamstring injury that hits when the weather cools. Still prefer him to Walcott, though, until Walcott clearly a focal point for more than a game or two. On the whole, prefer Berbatov returns, but he has worse fixtures, so Giroud, I guess.

I got rid of him for Ba 2 weeks ago. Regretted it ever since. Fulham are freescoring this season, Newcastle don't look like they have a lot of goals in them.

Seriously contemplating Ba to Berbs and Michu to Fellaini with my 2 FT this week. The way my luck's been going though I'll do it and then Michu and Ba will bag braces this weekend and Berbs and Fellaini will notch 2 pointers.

If you have those superpowers, then stay away from the BFW (Belgian Fright Wig) Fellaini and stay away from all of my precious Toffees.

Seriously though, I think I'd go ahead with those moves.

He's a cheap, nailed on world class striker for the second highest scoring team in the league. He's even more crucial to Fulham than Dempsey was last season, and is significantly cheaper than Dempsey was last season. Everybody had Dempsey last season and he only performed at home whereas Berba is performing everywhere.

If Young plays, he could do something this week. I doubt he will get anything, but he's certainly got the opportunity.

But yeah, I'd get rid ASAP. Even if he does somehow get something, it will be better in the long run.

+1 , I'm not denying Young can do damage but I just haven't seen it this year so far , injuries /form etc - he might come onto our radars yet but for me Val would be a more reliable choice at the mo.

I have a dilemma this weekend, I have Demel + Jussi and Bego + Cameron, and they're playing eachother! Who do I play? I was thinking Bego + Demel to split the risk, but I'm not 100% sure Demel will start.

    A) Jussi + Demel
    B) Bego + Cameron
    C) Bego + Demel
    D) Jussi + Cameron

Thoughts? West Ham defense has been good lately, could just go with A with Cameron as first sub.

Go with the home squad. Jussi and Demel. Hammers good at home. Stoke not so much on road. Match smells of a 0-0, though, so you might end up fine no matter who you go with.

Yeah I'm leaning towards A with Cam coming on if Demel doesn't play... I mean looking at the odds, there's no doubt that West Ham have the biggest chance of keeping a clean sheet. But there's a huge comfort in splitting the risk, even though logically it's probably not the right decision.

With Madrid on Wednesday, and possibly Citys last meaningul game in the CL, Kun will surely start there.

Nah just need to get more involved with the Championship in order to improve some of my betting 🙂
In Sweden we have something called 'Stryktipset' with 13 games you should pick the result (1 X 2) and at least 7 of them usually are from Championship. Managed to get 11 recently but that was an easy weekend.

You can win a lot of money if you're a bit skilful and lucky 🙂
