Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Pottered

Tony Pulis will need to reshuffle his defensive options after two of Stoke’s regular back-four fell foul of the referee’s wrath against Liverpool in Boxing Day. Ryan Shawcross and Geoff Cameron will now sit out the Potters’ home clash against Southampton after accruing their fifth cautions of the campaign in Wednesday’s 3-1 win:

The duo are two of four players who are set to serve an automatic one-match ban in Gameweek 20. Villa’s Fabian Delph and Newcastle centre-half Mike Williamson are also sidelined against Wigan and Arsenal respectively.

While those four are unavailable, a quartet of new protagonists appeared on the Suspension Tightrope after receiving their fourth cautions of the campaign in midweek. Yaya Toure, Bradley Johnson, Jean Beausejour and Maynor Figueroa will all need to be on their best behaviour this upcoming weekend, as will 27 other players, including the likes of Robin Van Persie, Michu, Gareth Bale, Jermain Defoe, Adel Taarabt and Kevin Nolan; once Gameweek 20 is out the way, though, the limit is then extended to 10 yellows. So far, a quartet on players lead the race for that dubious honour – Luis Suarez, James Perch, Craig Gardner and Angel Rangel all have seven bookings apiece.

Both Darron Gibson and Carlton Cole are available this weekend, however. The FA have overturned three-match bans handed out to the pair in West Ham’s Gameweek 18 home clash with Everton – good news for those Fantasy managers eyeing up Cole as a possible double Gameweek punt; the 4.9 priced forward has produced two goals, an assist and six bonus points in four games since deputising for the injured Andy Carroll.

Elsewhere, Cheick Tiote returns for Newcastle’s trip to Arsenal after sitting out their 4-3 defeat at Old Trafford, while Marouane Fellaini serves the final fixture of his three-match ban as Everton welcome Chelsea to Goodison Park.

So Im still struggling as to who to switch Rooney for.... Are most thinking Berbs a good shout due to Ruiz return? Iv not seen a great deal of Fulham so some opinions on that would be really helpful...

Other options are Ba defoe maybe Pea.

    Aurghhh important decision I feel.

        +1
I have Bale my move is Yaya for Mata lol... Roo to fund.. Really tough choice... Leaning towards Berbs as he is the main man but form is awful so was wondering about the Ruiz impact I read so much about, Ba is my other option but looking at fixture makes the choice more complicated.

Yeah personally I'd prefer Defoe with Reading (H) around the corner and the fact that Fulham aren't as good at attacking lately. I wouldn't be against Berba though...I just think Defoe is more straight to the point and will shoot and get chances every game.

I watched 90 mins of Fulham Saints and even with Ruiz second half, Fulham looked abject at best. On that form I wouldn't even bother with Berba just yet, I'd wait for Ruiz to be fully fit and see if their form picks up.

Yea an option.. Was happy to go for Pea but was talked out of it last night, was told Welbeck is likely to get the nod. ideally I will need 3 starters.

        So one of
        Berbs
        Pea
        Ba
        Defoe

one of the two is enough, alot of good options in midfield right now.

I am tempted for walcott myself but there is a risk with him. I mean I got him in a couple of weeks ago and he got injured and didn't play for 2 weeks and sold him and he started scoring again. However there is slight risk he maybe benched I feel.

cazorla 100% will start every game although more expensive.

I'm tempted by both to be honest, getting Carlton Cole in gives me all kinds of freedom to spend in midfield. I agree though, it could be frustrating getting Walcott in, he could not start, or start and do absolutely nothing.

I need help. I can't bring myself to get rid of Tevez. Team is:

    Begovic | Bunn
    Davies | Cuellar | BJones | Figueroa | Shorey
    Bale | Mata | Silva | Michu | Puncheon
    RVP | Tevez | Suarez

Next week: Figueroa + Silva -> Demel + Cazorla. I know you'll say get rid of Shorey first, but he'll go for Turner the week after. Feel free to attack these plans.

True, look at it this way maybe. Are you chasing a leader or defending a lead in your leagues?

If you are chasing, I'd go with Walcott all day long, but if I was defending a lead then Cazorla might be better. But with WC lurking in 2 weeks, I'd take Walcott regardless personally and if it backfires --> Caz straight away.

Interesting take on it. I like the way you turn it into a 'nothing to lose' punt with the WC around the corner. I'm defending a lead. Rank 7k. May well take that punt. Will mull it over. Thanks.

Gap between GW21-22 of about 10 days or so. Might be an ideal time to use, given that you can take advantage of an extended break to increase team value?

I'd say using it at the start of the window, if you have your other WC in hand. Use it as late as possible if you've already used your other WC

Yeah, you can field a decent defence this weekend still, and getting Caz in is a good way to use the Rooney funds.

Not convinced by Berba. His goal vs Soton was nothing really and could have been anybody and aside from that he didn't do much. Fulham really not looking an attacking threat at the minute.

What are people's thoughts on Luke Shaw? Anybody see him vs Fulham on Boxing Day?

For those that didn't he looked a different class aside from one mistake/fault where he miscontrolled but given the conditions can't blame him.

And I am talking, the next Gareth Bale here. He is in the exact same mold as him and I'm really fancying a punt on him this GW/soon as his marauding left wing runs will surely must reap some rewards soon!

Haha people might not take me seriously but mark my words!

When Oxlade Chamberlain was playing in League One I said on here he will go on to play for a top 4 club eventually.. (whether Arsenal are a top 4 club is another debate entirely!)

Anyway the point of this site is to share information, stats and tips. Well people are looking at the same budget defenders week in week out, so much so that I honestly believe some others get overlooked. Clyne is the Saints go to the budget defender but anybody who watches Saints on a regular basis knows that he is half as attacking as Shaw, half as skillful, half as good full stop really.

I just thought it worth a mention on here, and if in a few months time he turns out to be a gem then you can all go back to this comment and bow down to me. Equally I'm sure if it turns out he doesn't I'll eat some humble pie 😀

It's because Rickie hadn't been firing of late, Lallana injured and Mayuka and co not doing much. All coinciding conveniently with a 1-0 loss at home to Sunderland and Sharp scoring a bag full of goals recently.

I'm a level headed Saints fan and know that we don't need him back and realistically won't be coming back if we stay up this year.

Far too young IMO, he will inevitably make way for more senior players when they come back from injury and if he does manage to secure a place he will A) be rested frequently and B) won't be as effective as a more senior experienced player E.G. Sterling.

There is no more experienced player to come back from injury. Shaw earned his place in the first team and has kept it over since. This is my point. He also hasn't been rested once yet. 8 games straight he has played. Shaw is a left back too so counts as a defender on Fantasy football... all in all your opinion seems based on no fact whatsoever.

Yeh and I can't see Fox pushing him out the team on the basis of his current form. I think if you asked Adkins to name Saints most consistent and reliable player over the past 8 matches, Shaw would be his response.

Puncheon has been excellent, although last few games without Lallana and Ramirez not playing in the hole he has been shooting less/had less opportunities. Still one of our best players consistently though.

When Ramirez has moved in to the hole he links up brilliantly with him and in a week or two with Lallana back I'd expect his form to pick up again too.

In terms of fantasy prospect, worth keeping for sure and just letting him simmer a bit. Not sure there's a better value budget option in midfield at the moment anyway, plus his price is still steadily rising.

Btw coincidentally, this comment is not intended to persuade people not to get Clyne, I think he too is a great shout. But Shaw for me is an incredible talent and if you saw some of the dribbles he made vs Fulham you'd agree with me that he's got the potential to become a Fantasy gem.

Sorry you are missing the point, he is a left back and classed as a defender on FF. So with that in mind he could become a bit of a gem in weeks to come.. especially if Lallana comes back ahead of schedule from injury.

      hmm...worth monitoring

      Last 6 matches stats

Goal attempts: Clyne 3, Shaw 1
Penalty area touches: Clyne 4, Shaw 0
      Crosses: Clyne 13, Shaw 20

Those bottom two stats are exactly why I'm going to be putting him in my team. 13 dribbles... that's comparable to Baines and co. And he's delivering crosses at the end of them, on to the noggin of the one and only Mr Lambert, who should he decide to convert these chances would make me a very happy bunny.

Do people think Arsenal are going to keep a clean sheet against Newcastle this Saturday? I'm very tempted to get an Arsenal defender given their great run of fixtures (5 home games in the next 6 GWs!!) but i'm not sure they will keep Ba and co out!

Literally just brought in Gibbs for Ridgewell. Yes. If you look at Newcastle team for this game it is very depleted. I reckon 2 to 3 clean sheets out of 6 which aint bad for this season.

I see Bale saved your GW. I've brought in Gibbs and will almost certainly take a hit for Walcott. Can see Newcastle scoring but I have hopes for assist help from Gibbs and it's worth building up the Arsenal contingent ahead of the DGW.

Big time. My three defenders got a grand total of 1 point this week 🙁

There is that. He managed six games before injury and he's played six, so he's probably due. There's always the wildcard. I don't have strong feelings about when to play it in that Arsenal and West Ham have decent fixtures in the immediate aftermath

This season it's Mertesacker followed by Vermaelen.

TV5 got dropped for his poor run of form a while back in favour of Koscielny. If Kos was playing as well as last year it'd be Mert & Kos week in week out.

I noticed a lot of new RMTs have loaded up their midfields with a lot of big hitters. My team is no exception after getting in Bale for a hit yesterday. My team now is:

    Begs Foster
    Enrique Davies Clyne Demel Nelsen
    Bale Mata Cazorla Michu Sterling
    RVP Suarez Defoe

Very happy with my attackers but the defence I admit is a bit weak now. With so cash tied up in my attackers, I'm struggling to raise funds to upgrade my defence. I'm thinking I need to get a Chelsea defender in with Azpilicueta the likely target because of his relatively cheap price. Any suggestions on who to sacrifice? Or is the defence passable for now until Jan WC?

Well..Luiz is perhaps a caveat to the above. Don't see the point in wasting transfers on defence, just get cheap stoke/WBA/swansea/west ham etc and they'll turn over the odd cleanie over time, leaving you to concentrate elsewhere.
