The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Tuesday – Part Two

Southampton battle for a point at St Mary’s as Theo Walcott endures a frustrating evening on his return to his former stamping ground. Here’s the Stock Check on Saturday’s evening kick-off…

On the Up

Gaston Ramirez
Back in the side having been kept out of the heat of the Britannia battle, the Uruguayan fired home his third goal of the season to give the Saints the advantage. Ramirez has promised much since his arrival, without really catching fire as a Fantasy asset. With Adam Lallana seemingly sidelined for the foreseeable future, however, he looks to be a key figure in Southampton’s battle for survival and my yet draw our interest when fixtures fall kinder for Nigel Adkins’ men.

Jason Puncheon
A prime budget option, Puncheon has disappointed of late having looked to be making a mockery of his price tag. Nonetheless, the assist for tonight’s goal took him to six for the season and with two goals and a record that shows he’s started the last ten league matches, Puncheon is a reliable budget midfielder who offers attacking intent. He could yet show his worth if the Saints can improve their goal output.

The Southampton Defence
Prior to conceding three at Stoke, Nigel Adkins’ side had let in just four goals in six league outings. Tonight, the new resolute defence was again on show as Southampton worked tirelessly to stifle the Arsenal threat. Nathaniel Clyne missed out again with a knee problem but he and Jose Fonte are emerging as decent budget options in the light of the new emphasis on keeping things tight.

Going Down

Theo Walcott
While the Gunners man returned the assist for Do Prado’s own goal, Walcott suffered a miserable night back at his former club. Having seen little joy in the lone striker role, he was shifted to a wide role on the introduction of Oliver Giroud. Walcott cut a forlorn figure at the whistle and this was a far cry from the stunning display that helped see off Newcastle at the weekend.

Santi Cazorla
It’s just one assist in three matches now for the playmaker who has found himself dissolve into the background in Fantasy terms, as Walcott has come to the fore. Owners of Cazorla will surely have one eye on the double fixture in Gameweek 23 and hoping for a revival, while tonight’s showing from Walcott will perhaps do little to prompt the straight swap.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Team looks ok, except from the week defence.
If you are going to wild card, hurry before price changes tonight.
Get some of the risers and hope for a double rise.

Remember around this time last season when there was a power 5 midfield trend. It was Bale-Silva-Valencia-Dempsey-Seessegnon

Bale - Points started to dry up apart from the odd assist and 1 or 2 big weeks.
Silva - His form massively dipped, and ended up getting transferred out en masse
Sessegnon - Apart from 1 or 2 good weeks his points started to dry up.
Valencia - Got a few assists and had 1 or 2 big weeks towards the end of the season
Dempsey - He was the only one of the five to keep delivering for the rest of the season.

So it will be interesting to see what happens to the power five midfield this time around. Thoughts on which of Michu, Fellaini, Bale, Walcott and Mata will keep performing?

Bale to keep bringing the points in, Michu to have a slight drop off but still get enough goals, Walcott to have a couple of great weeks and lots of 2's, Mata less prolific and Fellaini to be sold in Jan!

Everyone had Sigurdsson though? Valencia, Silva, Sessegnon are all players who were getting assists and not much else. Michu/Fellaini are playing up front and scoring goals, Walcott is in good FPL form and getting both goals and assists, Bale is FPL gold IMO and Matas form since being rested is crazy.

Mata I see as someone who will never let up with goals and assists. Honestly think he is too good to dry up.

I don't believe Michu will score another 13 goals but as long as he's fit he will continue to get chances like today...particularly at home.

Fellaini...depends if he stays second striker all season and the stats still back his potential.

Bale...seems a step above what he was last season and more of the main man in that team. Improving his goalscoring constantly.

Walcott...may not stay striker because of performances like today where Arsenal struggled without someone to hold it up and they failed to create any real chances. But a good prospect no doubt.

Feo won't dry up, the only thing that stops him is injury. But he is the most explosive player in the FPL.

All the above players will continue performing, maybe not to the levels they have already achieved but they'll still be amongst the top scorers in the game.

Pretty good, who's your sub keeper? Players I'd be wary of :

      Gorkss: not in squad
      Morison: Is he fit?
Kalaniclic: Might be better about for your money but he's a fair differential to most sides.

What do you think about Pablo Hernandez from Swansea?
At 5.9 I feel he is very undervalued for his involvements in the Swans' attacking play. This is as compared to price of above 8 for Michu, and given Graham return to goal scoring form, Michu may no longer be played as striker but as in the hole mid.
    Great differential too.

    What are your thoughts?
Slotting him in i/o Fellaini or michu enables me to slot in Gerrard, with decent defence.

Rate him highly as a player and could be a decent FPL prospect but as a Michu owner from GW1, I have no intention of getting rid and so Pablo's not really an option for me.

Depends on what you use the extra money on and whether you already have Michu.

    I there something I don't realise?

Last season Sturridge was great value under AVB. Was great value at Bolton the year before.

When he signs for LFC he will potentially play central pas Suarez is better as second striker/wide Striker/winger.

Worst cas scenario he will be wide with instructions of increasing goals.

I think good value at £7.3 but haven't even seen mentioned yet?

(Plus will easily go up £1mil due to LFC fans large numbers (look at Allen, Borrinis ownerships to start with)

I've considered him, I mean Borini is available for 7.2 when back from injury too, but somehow I feel I have to wait and see, no point jumping on a bandwagon before he's played a game for Liverpool.

Personally i'm keeping Suarez, unless i can find a decent alternative, and Sturridge isn't that yet, though i wouldn't mind being proved wrong

Dont forget Sturridge was played out wide in a 3 by AVB, his last regular games for Chelski.

I think he's a risk vs similar types like Berba

Pick 2 out of these 3 transfers for gw23

    Nastasic > Gibbs

Probably Nas to Gibbs and Bale to Santi, Bale more likely to drop with being suspended and if Mata scores well then he will more likely rise, so logic points to transferring Bale out before Mata providing he isn't rested of course

Fellaini is a bit of an unknown at the moment. Not played for 3 games, might be sold, hard to gauge his worth.

Walcott, although he scored a hatrick recently, hasn't really proven himself yet and could be rotated/returned to his old position on the wing. Cazorla could be a better option.

      Other 3 are solid

Yes I remember seeing it. Cant find it now though. He is the only African player I have, and I know he played/plays for Ivory Coast. I know Yaya is of, dunno about Kolo or Arouna Kone.

I know Assaidi is of with Moroco, (not that he is playing at all at the moment.)

And Adel Taarabt aint going, apparently he is hated in Morocco now.
