The Numbers Game – Festive Form – Defenders

Continuing our round-up of the Christmas period, it’s time to treat our members to a series of articles which examines each of the positions and analyses the form of the key protagonists over the past four Gameweeks. We start in defence, by casting an eye over the top tens for our ICT Index, plus a more in-depth look at the main performers in terms of goal threat and creativity….

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Yet again, Baines is causing me a bloody headache. Feel like he's a great pick for the WC given his fixtures and the usual stuff. Who's getting him in?

I'm in a similar boat. Thought him essential season-keeper back in GW4/5, not so sure now. See my post below (and weigh in with an opinion, if you have one).

I'd avoid. had him at the start, got some nice points, took him out and he hasn't set the world on fire. Money spent well elsewhere (Fellaini for a little bit more?)

I'm making of point of having both Fellaini and baines on the wildcard. Jinswick has read it right, those fixtures (and the quality of the two players) should be screaming out to anyone on a wildcard this week.

agree with Tommy, I held on to him far too long, sold him just before the newcastle game tho 🙁

        Still money better spent elsewhere

      He's in on my wildcard.

70 chances created, 2 assists. Everton are probably in the top half of the league in terms of the quality of their defensive players, but they have 2 clean sheets.

He is going to score a lot more points.

Really Evs? can you not get together a team that is good both for the DGW and afterwards? i was thinking about using both but something like this looks good to me:

        Turnbull Scesney
        Baines Ivanovic Clyne Demel Kilgallon
        Puncheon Michu Walcott Fellaini Mata
        RVP Lambert Vaz Te

Then sub in Cazorla for Mata before the double. This gives you good doubles coverage, AND is a decent enough team so you can keep the second wildcard for afterwards.

Quick question: Baines or Evra (for rest of season)?

I've had Baines since GW5, recently started to think he wasn't worth the money and had planned to switch him to Evra during a late Jan WC, but am having second thoughts now just as I'm about to activate my Jan WC today or tomorrow (reason: DDGW).

Depending on which one I go with I'll end up with 2 different WC teams (one with Mata, one without), and if I get rid of Baines now it'll be for the season, barring a significant price fall.

So.... any opinions, please (just on a Baines/Evra straight comparison).

With 2 WC's remaining and currently:
    Jaask Federici
    Mertesacker Hughes B.Jones Shorey Zabaleta
    Mata Michu Nolan Noble Fellaini
    RVP Berba Suarez

    Is this my best option????
GW22: Turnbull, Shaw, Hazard for Federici, Zabaleta, Fellaini (costs -8)
GW23: Walcott, Cazorla for Hazard, Mata (costs -4)
    GW24: Wildcard!

Please throw your knowledge at me. 🙂

Maybe he could have a gap year and come do some voluntary work for us down at St. Andrews 😉

Anyone else not have a clue what to do? My head hurts....
    To WC or not.....

    Begovic Foster
Cuellar OBrien (both doubts) Gibbs Nelsen Hughes
    Sterling Puncheon Mata Walcott Michu
    RVP Suarez Defoe

    a) WC?
    b) Defoe/Cuellar OUT for Berbatov/Luiz (4 pt hit)
    c) Defoe/Sterling OUT for Berbatov/Fell (4 pt hit)
    d) Something else?

Would appreciate some help, I need it!

Yes I'm with you there. I wanted to hold on to WC until the last week, but the DGW has put a spanner in the works.

      Go for a) WC.

I see you still have your anytime WC to use later.

IMO, Foster/Walcott OUT for Turnbull/Hazard (4 pt hit)
      GW23, Mata/Hazard OUT for Santi/Walcott (4 pt hit)
      GW24, WILDCARD!

Think of the 4 pt hits as 2 pt hits with potential!
I think Hazard and Mata could fire!
Don't know how happy you'd be to lose Walcott, then buy him back. I guess it depends on how much you paid for him.

Please help me now 😀 (http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2013/01/05/the-numbers-game-festive-form-defenders/comment-page-12/#comment-4811549)

Is Kyle Naughton guaranteed a start for Spurs next week. Long term I will be getting Assou-ekotto, but can only afford a def of 4.2 as I want to transfer in Matta and Ba for DGW. Am I being slightly arrogant to be happy to take 12 point hit as I'm now 76 ahead in mini league.

Also, I have the identikit forward line of RVP, Berbs and Suarez, so was thinking of getting rid of Suarez for the short term and rotating for DGWs. Good idea, or will it come back and sting me? Questions, questions.

Can i get rid of Suarez (just rose to 10.4) for Ba and then hip him back after GW23 by using my WC? Is he likely to rise in price before start of next GW? Dont understand why ppl are shipping him in for the manutd game...

I was going to do the same, but not 100% sold that Ba will out score Suarez, until the DGW appeared.

Talking about Ba's partnership with Cisse is possibly the worst example he could have used!

Has Benitez actually watched Ba play before signing him?!

anyone getting Hazard in for a 1 week punt for the DGW? I have Mata, trying to double up on Chelsea attack and need to get rid of Yaya for someone.

also still have Tevez... tempted to keep now as not other City cover. what are the thoughts on Tevez > Ba / Defoe for a hit?

Worth getting Ba in for Benteke or Hernandez? Both have decent fixtures this week but can't help but feel like I'm going to miss out on a Ba explosion.

If I did it would probably have to be Hernandez right? Considering I have RVP obviously.
