The Fantasy Flutter with Paddy Power – Gameweek 22

A run of victories for Paddy Power before the Christmas break finds us going into 2013 with a small deficit to chase. Having taken a flutter sabbatical over Christmas, we’re now back and invigorated, determined to claw back the few quid lost. Let’s see what Scout Pick inspired selection Paddy has dealt us for Gameweeek 22…

Chelsea’s double Gameweek crown jewels have been turning heads ever since their extra fixture with Southampton was announced and none shine so bright as Demba Ba. The new arrival at the Bridge was given a run-out at St Mary’s in the FA Cup and duly delivered a brace to spell it out – he’s not arrived to sit on the bench and watch Fernando Torres miss chances. Having been preserved for the midweek Capital One cup defeat to Swansea, there’s every chance that Ba will start at Stoke this weekend. Paddy are offering 11/4 on a Ba goal packaged with a Chelsea clean sheet and we’ll take that as our top bet, throwing down £4 to back Ba and Rafa Benitez’s boys.

Gareth Bale’s form is somewhat irresistible right now. De-railed only by the suspension which saw him miss the 3-1 win over Reading, the Bale express is back on the tracks with the QPR defence in his sights. Having seen Luis Suarez tear apart the R’s back four in the last Loftus Road outing, Bale owners will be fancying a haul from the Welshman, despite QPR’s stoic performance at Stamford Bridge last time out. Paddy have Bale to score with a Spurs clean sheet at 4/1 and we’ll take that for a couple of quid.

Our final single market bet involves another goalscoring midfielder back from suspension. Everton’s Marouane Fellaini has been a Fantasy all-star this term and looks set to earn his place in our team of the season. While there’s mounting speculation surrounding his future at Goodison, he’ll be in the Everton lineup to face Swansea and will carry a major threat to a side that is often troubled by an aerial ball and set-piece. A Fellaini goal looks good, although having conceded in each of their last 15, backing the clean sheet is a brave move. Nevertheless, we’ll put another £2 on Paddy’s odds of 10/3 on a Fellaini goal with an Everton shut-out against the Swans.

Our final two quid is reserved for the weekly treble, with Paddy offering 14/1 on a Robin Van Persie goal against Liverpool, a Juan Mata assist at Stoke and a Sunderland clean sheet at home to West Ham. It’s no guts, no glory, as we empty our stake money and hope for the stars to align on this one.

Register and Bet £10 And Get £20 Free

If you’re new to Paddy Power, then you can take up any of these odds and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register an account and bet a tenner.

Finally of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

    Which plan is better?

    A) GW22- Zabaleta > Luiz (Play Shawcross home to Chelsea)

    GW23- Shawcross > Gibbs

    B) GW22- Shawcross > Luiz (Play Zabaleta away to arsenal)

    GW23- Zabaleta > Gibbs

    C) GW22- Shawcross/Zabaleta > Luiz

    GW23- Luiz > Gibbs

** bought Shawcross at 5.0 mil so if i will sell him i will lose .5 mil and if i sell zabaleta i will only lose .1

    Comments much appreciated

    Thanks.

      Probably C

I would be looking to keep Luiz and/or Gibbs for the season. No point in chasing clean sheets; wasting transfers on guys that should play every week.

8-0??! Every week for a while people have been predicting Southampton will get thrashed in the league
They've lost twice in10 games i think it is, and both by 1 goal.

Distin, is am interesting twist but good cover if the toffees ever get a cleanie.

        Same Chelsea 3 as me.

Obviously lacking Michu would be a slight worry, but that's a nice team.

        Do it.

    Jussi
    Luiz, Clyne, Gorkss
    Michu, Walcott, Silva, Fellaini
    Ba (C), RVP (VC), Berba

    Subs: Bego, Gibbs, Sterling, Davies

£1.9m in bank. Should I do Silva to Mata for a hit?

Good morning gents and occasional ladies. New to FFS this year, been reading but thought I'd wait to crack 50k before offering a squad for perusal. Used regular WC to push into top 250,000 or so, now saving winter WC for after GW 23, as I don't believe I need it just yet. Is this the case?

    Mignolet (Begovic)
    Cameron O'Brien Cuellar (Nelsen, 3.8)
    Mata(c) Bale Michu Walcott (Nolan)
    Suarez Ba(vc) Defoe

Two frees, was thinking Defoe>Lambert to fund Cuellar>Luiz since my defense is admittedly dodgy. Also Nelsen>Demel needs to happen but for a hit? I've managed 34k without RVP or a single hit all season so thought it might be worth taking one now for a defender about to have a DGW when most of my current defense is shite or unavailable. Will look to squeeze in Fellaini after all the DGW madness.

Thoughts from any kind souls who can see what moves I should consider most important will be met with my eternal gratitude and an adult beverage of their choice.

O'Brien to Demel is better than Nelsen to Demel. But not for a hit.

Thanks. But does shipping Defoe and Cuellar for reasonably strong DGW's make sense with 2 frees? Or should I try to just sort the defense without Luiz, who I really want, but the only way to fund it seems to be Lambert.

I like those moves...particularly because I did the same two this week. I like Defoe's chances against QPR however. I think you might want to sort out your defence as O'brien is probably not fit this week. Who is your 3.8m defender? If he is playable then you should be ok and I'd go ahead with those moves. However you could be left short in defence this week...just a suggestion. Best of luck!
