Scout Scribbles – Sissoko Relishing New Role

Newcastle’s new number 10 claims he is made for the English top flight. The clamour to shift Gareth Bale up front gathers momemtum. David Luiz is closing on a return to fitness, while Adam Le Fondre keeps patient as he waits on a shift in tactics at Reading….

Newcastle’s Moussa Sissoko has offered reassurance to those Fantasy managers who have already taken to the market to acquire his services. Talking on his impact over his first two matches in the stripes of Newcastle, Sissoko has expressed his joy at his role in the side having arrived on Tyneside from Toulouse…

“I am very happy to be in England. This championship is my style of play. The coach told me I was going to move to this position in the first two matches. It went well. So much the better for me and my team…Toulouse are a good team with quality players but going forward sometimes we experienced difficulties. English football is made for me. I’ve thought that for a while. I know I will often be in a position to score, just like last weekend….It is the same in the France team. I feel better and better. At first, I didn’t dare to take risks – I just did control and pass. Nowadays if I have to dribble, I do it.”

Indeed, from the interview in L’Equipe magazine, it’s clear that French coach Didier Deschamps has also noted Sissoko’s recent form as an attacking midfielder. When asked whether he was concerned that he was being forced to look overseas to find new talent for his squad, he singled out Sissoko’s recent impact, underlining the recent change in role as the key factor…

“It is a good thing…Take the example of Sissoko. Now he is a No 10. I could not imagine seeing him in such a position.”

It’s clear then that Fantasy managers are currently dealing with something of an unknown quantity with Sissoko. Played in a withdrawn, holding role at his former club, we have little data to go on other than his two performances so far for Newcastle. It must be said that those displays, as a very small sample, indicate that Sissoko will be a significant Fantasy talent. Further returns at Spurs this weekend, going into Newcastle’s favourable run of fixtures will surely see Sissoko’s stock and ownership continue to rise at pace. Almost 70,000 managers have acquired Sissoko so far this weeek following his brace at the weekend – only Liverpool’s assets have seen more activity and they have the double Gameweek in their favour.

Gareth Bale is another key fantasy target subject to a recent change of role. With Andre Villas-Boas mulling the idea of switching Bale to an advanced central role, or even deploying him as a striker, Wales’ boss, Chris Coleman, appears to be offering Bale the chance for a dress rehearsal. According to reports, Coleman is considering switching Bale up front for Wales for their forthcoming qualifiers with Scotland and Croatia…

“He can play anywhere cant he? Both flanks, down the middle and we even played him as a striker in the second half against Croatia. I saw the two centre-backs change their positions when we did that because they were petrified of his pace. Naturally, because he is a winger he wants to get the ball deep so he can run at players. But he can be just as devastating if you put the ball behind and have him running on to it.”

The talk of Bale being switched to a position that can maximise his goal threat, both for club and country, is clearly something that requires monitoring. The statistics show that Bale is amongst the most threatening players on show in the Premier League, although, from the flank, the majority of his efforts are fired from outside the box. Should he be granted the freedom to advance further up field and in central areas, his potential would surely enjoy a further boost which could prove significant over the remainder of the season. At Spurs, Jermain Defoe’s prognosis will prove vital to this – should the striker be ruled out for several months, Villas-Boas would have only Emmanuel Adebayor and Clint Dempsey as recognised strikers with Premier League experience – arguably players who offer very similar traits up top.

Moving to Stamford Bridge and Chelsea’s Demba Ba was confirmed as a doubt for the weekend clash with Wigan at Stamford Bridge having withdrawn from Senegal’s squad for their friendly with Guinea after suffering a broken nose in the defeat at Newcastle. Ba’s start against the Latics is clearly at risk, which could see Fernando Torres lead the attack in the weekend clash and in Thursday’s Europa League tie with Sparta Prague – Ba is cup tied in Europe. Elsewhere in the Chelsea camp, David Luiz remains a doubt for Brazil as they prepare to face England this evening. Luiz has missed Chelsea’s last two league encounters with an ankle injury, from the quotes from the Brazil camp, however, is clearly close to a return. Brazil’s coach, ‪Felipe Scolari‬, has pledged not to take any gambles with Luiz’s fitness…

“Regarding David Luiz he will (have to) pass another exam with our physios, then we will decide whether he will play or not…We will not take any risks with him.”

Reading’s Adam Le Fondre has drawn plaudits following a return of vital goals for the club in recent weeks – there’s even talk of an potential England call-up. The striker is still unable to establish a starting role in Brian McDermott’s side and, yesterday, spoke out on the situation, stating he was willing to bide his time…

“I’ve got to do what’s right for the team for the time being, until I can play in the team. Ever since I’ve come here I’ve wanted to play games – but the way things are going at the moment I’ve just got to bide my time and wait and see if we can play two up front.”

Unfortunately for Le Fondre, Reading’s recent form has coincided with a shift to a 4-5-1 formation which has seen Pavel Pogrebnyak impress as the lone striker. Le Fondre has proved effective coming from the bench late on and would seem set to continue in that role. That hasn’t perturbed Fantasy managers who have invested in the budget striker in their droves: Le Fondre, priced at 4.9 in the Fantasy Premier League game, drew 70,000 net transfers in the last Gameweek and has gained almost 20,000 new owners in this latest period.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Can't seem to get anyone to reply to a David Luiz post, so let's put it in a DGW context.

I have Sturridge (c), Michu, and Davies, no FT. Should I do:

    Luiz to GJ (-4)
    Demel to Carra (-4)
    Stick?

Sounds complicated. I'd assume Luiz is out for 2 weeks and focus on getting 11 for gw27.

Can't assume that. The article above says Luiz is a possible for today's England Brazil match. Even if he doesn't play this week he could be a big part of me playing 11 in GW27.

But, he's also potentially subject to rotation, reduced playing time, etc. And if he does play he's away at City in gw27.

Why? 🙂 How is this inherently more ignorable than any other DGW transfer post? Luiz is obviously of enough interest to mention in the article above, so I thought it might be relevant.

I'd actually counteract that by saying that often, it is during the work aspect that one finds the greater sense of happiness. The completion, while not always anti-climactic, frequently leaves an absence and a need to find something else to undertake.

Yeah certainly, but emptiness, by definition, sets in when the prior goal isn't replaced. I was immensely happy when I completed my first novel, but soon after that dissipated, hence me now being in the process of writing my second. I find great pleasure in the writing itself, not necessarily its completion.

Exactly, it's the "accomplishing" more than the "accomplishment".

Just ask yourself would you do that transfer any other week? As long as there is no rotation, both players play the same number of games so it just depends on who you have to replace GJ next week and whether that will outscore Rafael by 4.

If I'm going to take a hit, I'd rather do it on a striker/midfielder than a defender as they are more like to pay it back with returns.

Granted, those two LIV backs have attacking potential in a DGW but I'd hold off if I were you.

Rafael is just a likely to get a CS (and then some) as the LIV defenders

Top of the morning lads. Just wondering what you all thought of my plans for GW 27. I think I have somewhat over-extended myself on this DGW so if it doesn’t go to plan I’m going to look rather foolish.

    Bego Bunn
    Enrique Davies Zab Demel Clyne
    Michu Walcott Fell Mata Guthrie
    RVP Suarez Sturridge

    A. Suarez > Rooney + Enrique > J Evans 0.3 in the bank
    B. Suarez > Rooney + Ben Davies > someone under 4.7
    C. Suarez > Aguero + Ben Davies > J Evans 0 in the bank

    All for -4

Which one you like and why?
    Cheers.

I have almost decided to stick with Suarez & Studge long-term. Suarez will continue to be a top scoring fantasy asset and Studge is likely to be the best value forward in the game.

I would do A because I think Rooney is a better bet than Aguero, and I would rather have JEvans and Davies than Enrique and nameless 4.7. One danger in doubling on RVP and Rooney is a possible GW29 blank for United.

Don't be too down mate. Evans is still recognized as a United first choice CB. The worry is Jones and smalling covering for him but I believe Jones is out for 2 weeks right now. Evans may well play most games and has great fixtures and attacking threat. Plus he won't come on for 1pt cameos often as he's CB.

I find it useful in choosing between two players or two transfers. I like that it factors in rotation chance etc.
But the thing is Evra and Evans are the best in their respective positions. It predicts Evans will be benched now and again but not Evra. I suppose the quality of their replacements are different but still...

How good a pick is Gerrard? He's been playing very deep since Sturridge arrived. Yes he's still got points but that was mainly down to two long range scorchers, although he's known for them, he can't keep scoring them.

The quality of his shooting ain't going to change is it? We've discussed this before. Also, another thing i though of is he probably has a higher chance of scoring in these two games. Liverpool would generally play on the counter vs. top 10 teams meaning higher returns for Sturridge/Suarez but this could so easily be a case where both WBA and SWA are sitting deep against a rampant pool which means 5 players attacking the box, which means decent returns for Gerrard.

I see a lot of negative comments about certain players (eg cazorla), whilst posters appear to ignore the stats. Both those players are amongst the top scoring midfeilders, whilst Gerrard is 2nd top scoring MF player. Those players will deliver over the long term, it's a question of playing them at the correct time, the same as any other player. Why this game, whilst hugely enjoyable, is majorly down to luck, despite the fact we all convince ourselves it's our superior tactical nous.

Not denying that, but you still need a bit of luck. I've looked at my prior to a GW and considered it strong, only to be beaten in H2H by a ghost ship (in one case where no transfers had ever taken place)

          I doubt it.

Gerrard didn't do well for the last two seasons and Cazorla, while a good player, is already overperforming in my opinion.

His points per minute in 09/10 and 10/11 were not good for a premium priced player.

I don't think it's a coincidence with Lampard but I'm still not entirely convinced that Gerrard will keep scoring at a good rate.

Think Cazorla is a top player whose performances don't necessarily translate to FPL points. He's still returned a decent total. I had him from GW1 the Jan WC, and eventually transferred him out. Up to players to decide whether his price justifies his points return

Mario Balotelli is at the centre of a racism storm in Italy, just days after completing his return to his native country with a move to AC Milan.

The former Manchester City striker was described as "negretto di famiglia" - translated as "the family's little n****", by the Milan vice-president Paolo Berlusconi, younger brother of the club president Silvio.

He said: "Okay, we are all off to see the family's little n****. He's a crazy head. All the young ladies are invited as well - you can even have a chance to meet the president (Silvio Berlusconi)."

Take those RVP is essential specs off for a second and say who you would prefer over the next 4 or so fixtures, RVP or Aguero?

    Begovic - Federici
    Evra - Clichy - Azpilicueta - Davies - Mariappa
    Bale - Mata - Walcott - Michu - Puncheon
    RVP - Sturridge - Fletcher

    2FT, 0.0 in bank

Not sure what to do with my 2 FTs - can't afford a LIV defender unless it's for Evra. Could do Bale to Gerrard for a week?
