Scout Scribbles – Remy Boost For Redknapp

Loic Remy is in the frame for a shock return at Swansea. Demba Ba dons a mask to be in contention for Chelsea’s clash with Wigan tomorrow. Vincent Kompany is close to City comeback. Hatem Ben Arfa remains on track for a Toon return and Younes Kaboul is back in training to crowd Tottenham’s defensive options…

Harry Redknapp has revealed that Loic Remy could be back in the frame for QPR’s visit to the Liberty Stadium tomorrow after making good progress with his groin injury. The French international, who scored on his R’s debut at West Ham, missed the 0-0 draw with Norwich last weekend after tweaking his groin in training. The early prognosis from the Rangers camp indicated a tear, which was later optimistically reduced to a strain. Now, however, Remy’s condition seems to have taken a dramatic turn for the better…

“He trained this morning, he’s close…He’s close to being fit for Saturday…But I don’t want to rush him in case he breaks down.”

Redknapp had started the Norwich game with Jamie Mackie as his only fit recognised striker, as Bobby Zamora continues to edge his way back to fitness following a long lay-off. It’s perhaps unlikely Redknapp will gamble on Remy for the Swans visit – this morning he was somewhat cautious and admitted he won’t take any chances in case of a possible tear; the smart money would perhaps be on a bench role, then.

Demba Ba is another striker who could yet make an appearance this weekend. Chelsea’s Senegal start suffered a facial injury in the 3-2 defeat to Newcastle last weekend but was pictured in full training yesterday, sporting a protective mask. Ba had the mask fitted in Italy to protect the broken nose suffered as a result of the clash with Fabricio Coloccini and is now seemingly in the frame for the clash with Wigan. Ba is ineligible to play in Europe so will be ruled out of Chelsea’s Europa League tie with Sparta on Thursday; with that in mind, he could well have been penciled in to feature against the Latics ahead of Fernando Torres. Rafa Benitez will hold his usual press conference at lunchtime today, in which he will surely comment on Ba’s availability.

Newcastle are a team in bloom after back-to-back victories, inspired by the arrival of Moussa Sissoko. Alan Pardew’s options are all set to be boosted further by the end of the month with news that Hatem Ben Arfa remains on schedule for a return. Reports have confirmed that Ben Arfa has had his comeback somewhat delayed by illness, having been struck down by a virus, however, he is still in line for a return by Febuary 24 – for the visit to Southampton, according to Pardew…

“Hatem is genuinely sick and has missed four or five days’ work on the training ground. He has a good chance of being available for Southampton, but is doubtful for the two European games. We initially thought he would be involved in those.”

Pardew went on to talk up the qualities that the Frenchman grants the Newcastle squad…

“Ben Arfa gives us something we don’t otherwise have in the squad. You cannot get away from that. He can ghost past people as if they are not there, as he has shown in certain situations, and his workrate has improved dramatically so that he has become a major function for us. So I am really looking forward to seeing him back.”

His return will be of obvious interest to Fantasy managers, not least those who recently purchased Sissoko off the back of his recent returns. There’s little doubt that Pardew will look to introduce Ben Arfa to his starting XI and it will be interesting to see if that has any impact on Sissoko’s role in the side.

Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany is another player who could yet make a return to action this weekend, ahead of schedule. The Belgian international was thought to be sidelined for at least another week having suffered a calf injury in the recent FA Cup win at Stoke but, according to assistant boss, David Platt, has made good progress with the injury…

“The injury problems aren’t as bad now…There is nothing definite to say Vinny will make it for Southampton, but he has a chance.”

Kompany’s return to contention would provide a timely boost for Roberto Mancini, but also hand him an interesting selection headache. The City boss has turned to Joleon Lescott to cover for Kompany’s absence in recent matches, with Matija Nastasic making a return to the side following illness against Liverpool last weekend. The Serb was sacrificed before the hour mark against Brendan Rodgers’ side and, with Kompany’s return, could now find himself on the bench should Mancini opt to keep faith with Lescott.

Younes Kaboul is another defender on the comeback trial. News from the Tottenham camp confirmed that the Frenchman is nearing a return having been sidelined for six months with a knee injury. Prior to the setback, Kabuol had established himself in Tottenham’s defence and a return to contention would clearly pose a further selection problem for Andre Villas-Boas within his back four. The Tottenham boss estimated that Kaboul was still around three weeks from a return…

“He’s going to rejoin training hopefully next Monday for the first time – but it’s going to be his first training session since August so we have to be very careful. When might he play again? It’s very difficult. Obviously we have to consider that he has to catch up, but I think with the tremendous willingness that he has to come back to playing, hopefully within two to three weeks, but it’s very unsure.”

Michael Dawson has, just recently, appeared to have cemented a starting role in the centre of Tottemham’s defence, with William Gallas dropping to the bench and Jan Vertonghen partnering the club skipper. However, Kaboul’s return would muddy the waters further, casting real doubt over Dawson’s mid-term potential. Kaboul is currently available as a 5.0 defensive option in the Fantasy Premier League game, having started the season at 5.5.

Across North London, Arsene Wenger would love to have such rich defensive resources right now. This morning’s news brought confirmation that Arsenal will be without Thomas Vermaelen for their visit to Sunderland, with Laurent Koscielny also a doubt with a calf injury sustained on international duty with France. That could mean that the Gunners boss is forced to turn to Sebastien Squillaci or Ignasi Miquel to help fill the voide for the trip to the Stadium of Light. Alternatively, Francis Coquelin could find himself shifted to a defensive role – Wenger has confirmed that he is available following a recent hamstring problem.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Rémy:

"My profile as a player is that when I've got a small problem things become difficult," says the French striker, who barely played for Marseille during the first part of the season. "It might sound pretentious but physios have said to me that I'm like a Formula One car. Whenever I've got a small problem I'm straight into the pits. When I'm 100% I can do very good things but, when something's not right in my head, it then becomes a bit difficult."

Sounds like he could be very frustrating to own

Personally I think he'll play one game. Imo he has a less than 40% chance of playing both. If he plays though he'll play for QPR and not liv. So its worth the risk imo. Wouldnt buy him but if you have him play him.

Can't consider Hazard over Gerrard can I?
Every now and then Chelsea put a team to the sword - they could easily score as many vs Wigan as Liverpool do vs. Swansea and WBA.

Picking Hazard over Gerrard this week sounds pretty crazy to me, unless you have a huge problem with fielding players in GW27.

    Hi all,
    A fresh opinion needed please.

Sterling(5.0) is my main problem. Should i transfer him out now with my FT as he doesnt look likely to play in the DGW? I would prefer to keep him on the bench this week and have more money to play with in GW27 as ill have 2FT but with Shaw,Fellaini,Wilson and Demel all doubts this week i might not have 11 starters?
My current team for GW 26-1ft and 0.0 in bank
    Bego (Bunn)
    Zaba Enrique Shaw (Demel, Wilson)
    Bale,Fellaini, Michu,Walcott (Sterling)
    RVP, Suarez,Lambert

    I could either...
    a) sterling--> Kebe/Moloney/other
b)put in starting 11 and Lambert to bench
    c) bench til gw 27 and make 2FT

    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Hubert i cant really afford to change sterling to any other Pool or Swans players as i will only have 1ft to use with 4 players out in GW27(not including wilson and Demel).

Ogie- might stick him in the 11 but just put off by him not playing the last two weeks..

I think I'd still go with Suarez, I'm STILL not completely sold on Gerrard (not sure what he has to do to convince me, but I feel he's getting more points than his role indicates he should get) and I think he'll rely on penalties or long-shots to get some serious points, both seem a bit risky.

I've seen a few posts--some in reply to mine--saying "Luiz to GJ for a hit is a no-brainer" or words to that effect. Can anyone put some flesh on those bones? If Luiz plays he could easily get a cleanie, so to justify a hit we're counting on GJ to get two cleanies or attacking points. Is this all about uncertain playing time, and if so what chance do you reckon Luiz has of starting?

Worth it if it's for -4 but not for if it's another -4 next week to get 11 playing I reckon.

There is a lot of sense in this. My problem is I need Demel AND Luiz/GJ replacement to field 11. So the GJ move could be a double-hitter if I need to replace Demel as well. My other option is Demel to Carra, then I can field 11 without a hit next week (ie, just replace Carra).

Luiz points = 2xprobability of playing 60 + 4xprobability of clean sheet (I'd assume his chance of attacking points is very low)

GJ points = 4 (I think he's virtually guaranteed to start both) + 4xprobability of WBA clean sheet + 4xprobability of clean sheet + attacking points

I'd say the latter looks likely to outscore the former by at least 4. Assume Luiz has a generous 70% chance of starting and a 50% chance of a cleanie. GJ then only has to beat 3.4 points.

This is the kind of flesh I was looking for, thanks. If there were no other considerations this might convince me to punt. However, Demel is my 11th for GW27, so if I do this I will need to move GJ AND replace Demel, so another hit. Thinking Demel to Carra instead.

The way I look at it is:

-4 to bring in Gerrard and -4 to bring Bale back in. So you need Gerrard to score 8 more points than Bale over two this GW to make the transfer worthwhile.

Bale is in great form, but he hasn't done anything of note at home since November, whereas Gerrard has got points in many successive home games.

It's a tough one! I am ranked 700 and clear of of people in my mini leagues by 50+ points so I may just take the punt.

Suarez for me, he could easily get a goal in each even if the games are low scoring. For Gerrard to get big points I think in Liverpool need to score 3/4 in least one game to match that. Just my opinion though..

And Suarez will be highly likely to get the assists, plus clean sheet points on top, and he can score, and is on pens and set pieces.

Yeah sorry I meant Gerrard. 😀 There is no right answer, but there is defintiely a strong argument for both. Eitehr of them can score well on the day.

            And I'm captaining Sturridge.

It would be interesting to see who normally assists suarez to be fair. He seems to bring the ball quite a long way often before getting into the box and shooting and could therefore be collecting the ball from anyone. Even now with Sturridge there the two of them are likely to assist eachother.

Gerrard corners and freekicks are more likely to be met by bigger players who are good in the air like Agger and Skrtel for example. No doubt the stats completely refute everything I've just said though....

Gerrard for Pool is a bit like Pirlo for Italy/Juventus, attacking play goes through him, whether in open play or at a dead ball. Every time Pool score, you'll figure Gerrard could have been involved.

Have decided to bring in Sturridge for this GW. My dilemma is do I transfer out Ba or Lambert? At the moment I'm very much leaning towards transfering out Lambert but am concerned Ba may not play due to either injury or rest. What do people think?

I wouldnt transfer out Lambert. He is on penalties, Southampton's game is improved and Ba could start about 60-70% of the games. Why having the headache every week? Plus you will gain some cash and spend it elsewhere

I'd have thought pretty high (90%?). Key game for Everton, Fellaini ostentatiously "getting fit" after sitting out an international friendly. Looks like theatre to me, all trying to justify why he plays four days after sitting out.
