The Big Numbers – Gameweek 31

Another classy display from Santi Cazorla sees the Spaniard lead the way in this week’s ICT Index figures, holding off the charge from West Ham’s Andy Carroll and Sunday’s efforts from Luis Suarez. As always, our members are free to investigate all the Opta data from around this weekend’s matches in our members area. However, we’ve put in some leg work on their behalf, picking out the numbers that piqued our interest, whilst pointing out some statistical trends over the last four and six Gameweeks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    One thing I remember about Di Canio is that once there was a kid posting on here who had the avatar of Di Canio doing the Nazi salute.

    When I asked him about it he clearly didn't know what it was, just wanted a picture of his hero as his avatar. Shows the effect it can have on young people when a famous footballer embraces fachism. Dangerous.

        I would never employ him in a million years,

        But should others be allowed to? Now there's question...... it's easier to accept a situation where he's allowed to coach football when board members are quitting and journalists are immediately bringing up this history. But it's still sad because you know little Mackems will end up idolising him if he saves them, and the message of what he idolises will come down to them in a garbled form.

          Not saying i would either. But beeing a faschist (if he even is one, that celebration was talked down to the fullest), shouldnt stop him from beeing a manager. If hes qualified for the job, then fine. Youre always going to have young kids idolising "bad people". Its not yours or my decision to make. Mackems will have to decide for himself, dont you think?

    Does Studge really have no effect on Suarez?

    Suarez only had 2 shots in the last 2 games (out of which one was a FK), both of which he played behind Studge. He had 9 today.

      From having watched the games since closely since Sturridge was around, I don't think anyone can doubt from watching the games that Suarez doesn't have the same level of FPL threat when Sturridge plays. He still has some, as he is a gifted player, but not as much.

        I disagree. Sturridge does take some of Suarez` threat away, but it gives him more space to do his thing when defenders have another danger to consider.

          Yes, but "doing his thing" further out wide or away from the goal = scoring less FPL points, for me.

          Good formation for Rogers to play, the right position for Suarez to play well for the team, but not the best thing for his fantasy prospects.

            Again, i disagree. Moving Suarez further away from goal doesnt benefit the team, and its not his best position. And if memory serves he basically only played wide left against Arsenal away and Spurs at home, two really tough games. And even then he scored in both. Suarez is Suarez, always. No matter who you partner him with.

      Impossible to say "no effect". Suarez is Suarez, anyways. For away games, he might get more defensive duties if Sturridge is on. Suarez will always get and create chances. Point potential for FPL, i reckon stays about the same either way.

        This is the point I'm making. I think the stats quite clearly suggest that Studge's presence makes a significant impact on Suarez's goal threat.

          Or maybe its just coincidental over a very short period of time where Suarez maybe didnt play his best? Obviously when youre playing alone up front, youre going to theoretically get more chances than playing behind another striker. Im just not sure thats the case, especially now since hes favourite to win the golden boot. Pretty sure he wants that.

              While this is true, the same applies for Suarez. I dont know if youve seen him play, but he pretty much goes for goals more than most people. Even Sturridge.
              And yes, he will get the golden boot.

            Suppose i should give him credit for the Leicester and Villa accomplishments, but to be fair winning thing with Celtic really doesnt impress me. Its all fine and dandy, but cmon, its Celtic. Anyways, what i meant was although he has had some success, ive never rated him. Spent tons of money, never really been able to take clubs to the next level and keep them there and elevate. To me he`s more of a rescue-manager than anything else.

                Im talking about becoming a big club manager. Teams promoting doesnt really excite me, although it is an accomplishment. I believe Leicester also finished 8th, which is great. And then what happened? Uefa cup is also a good achievement, but plenty or weaker teams have managed that feat. And if you dont win it.... When i say take teams to the next level, i mean do what youre mentioning, but not follow it up by getting relegated/sacked the next season.

              Regarding Martin O'Neill's "accomplishments" at Villa, his purchase of poor players on hideously high wages and long contracts is the main reason behind the club's current woes. For more details, read the ever-excellent Swiss Ramble:

    Having read a few opinions tonight PDC will certainly shack things up...but I will say IMHO the Sunderland squad is awful & full of "throw me down" players. If Sunderland stay up its due to 3 teams being worse - not because they are good!!

    Mr PDC has a great history.....

    All remember the push on Ref Paul Alcock?
    All will remember "THAT" goal of the season
    and all will recall his show of sportsmanship v Everton?

    but as a manager - Swindon stood by him despite a series of issues:
    Fighting with his own player http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otbpOUx1ZF8
    He then publicly Sacks Leon Knight;
    Public Humiliation of the keeper in Sept by dragging him off after 20 mins then publicly abused him went interviewed;
    Broke into the Swindon Offices after he resigned;
    And whilst always has plenty to say he has been banned a few times for entering playing field;

    The circus is coming to town, the EPL will not reduce the controversy that surrounds him but I believe PDC will relish being back in EPL & will use shock treatment....I for one cannot wait - its one thing an egotistical ex EPL star abusing players on £500 p.w. in Div 1 but its gonna be a different animal with these EPL players*

    *rushes to bookies sites for best odds on PDC getting KO'd on touchline by his own Player.

    Regarding this Italian chap at Sunderland...I freely admit that I know absolutely nothing about politics so could someone please explain to me what's wrong with being a Fascist? Is it a bit like being in the BNP or something? My Granddad killed absolutely dozens of Gerry's and Eye-Ties in North Africa during WW2 but be never had anything less than a kind word to say about them.

    Is Paulo a bad person or is he no different to a ConDem?

            I suppose for the next GW but you're losing a player with a DGW for one who might get a DGW. Even if Chelsea get through there is no guarantee Azpi will play both games

              Azpilicuta seems pretty nailed on. Anyway, the dude said he was going to wildcard gw 33, i assumed he meant for that gw which means he can get some other Arsenal defender if wanted.

                Apologies, you are right. If it's for one week only and he's not losing any value on Merte (assuming he wants him back) then it's decent move.

                  Doesnt really matter if he loses value on Perma. Sagna and Fabianski offers way more value, imo. Slight risk, but still. Im getting one of them for the double myself.

              Why would I say penultimate if I meant last R??

              FYI Peter O'Sullivan "invented" the word.

                I just thought (wrongly) that Ronaldo's big scoring was in his last season...no offence!

        Diddled....I didn't know the GW rank was gross and not net of hits...Is there a way of checking how many above me took hits ?...Itmay wel be the highest i ever finish even if it is short lived for one day.

          GW rank 70. Super stuff Wakey. I don't think there is a way of checking. Unless you check all 69 above you, I would guess many took hits because a lot of (sad) people set up teams just to try and get no.1 for that GW.
