Double Gameweek 33 Confirmed for United

So now we know. Chelsea’s win at the Bridge this afternoon means it’s United who will have a double Gameweek 33, with the Red Devils one of five sides – along with Arsenal, Everton, Fulham and West Ham to face a pair of fixtures. Chelsea, on the other hand, will play in the FA Cup Semi-Finals in the weekend of Gameweek 33; their home game with Tottenham, scheduled for Sunday April 14, will now be postponed.

Now we can start to plan accordingly. After weeks of uncertainty, Easter Monday has afforded Fantasy managers clarity and the chance to sift through the fixture list in the knowledge that the fixtures listed below are nailed on:

Double Gameweek 33 Contenders

Arsenal – Norwich (h) Saturday April 13, Everton (h) Tuesday April 16
Everton – QPR (h) Saturday April 13, Arsenal (a) Tuesday April 16
Fulham – Villa (a) Saturday April 13, Chelsea (h) Wednesday April 17
Man United – Stoke (a)Sunday April 14, West Ham (a) Wednesday April 17
West Ham – Southampton (a) Saturday April 13, Man United (h) Wednesday April 17

Arsenal’s back-to-back home games are likely to see Theo Walcott (if fit) and Santi Cazorla as the main captaincy contenders. The Gunners have dropped just two points in their last five at the Emirates, scoring 14 times, and sit just two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea and four behind Spurs in third – with everything to play for, then, Arsene Wenger won’t be resting his key attacking assets, though doubts still remain over his selections at the back, with Per Mertesacker seemingly the only certainty.

Three back-to-back victories highlight Everton’s current form. The Toffees are just a couple of points behind Arsenal, giving their trip to the Emirates added spice, while David Moyes’ men will be confident of seeing off QPR at Goodison beforehand, given they have dropped just two points in their last five at home. Marouane Fellaini will be fully refreshed for the pair of fixtures once his current suspension is served – he has already served up a 10 point return against the Gunners this term, while Leighton Baines is afforded the platform to cement his place at the top of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) standings.

A trip to Villa is likely to boost Dimitar Berbatov’s chances of maintaining his scoring streak, while a home showdown with Chelsea offers the Cottagers the chance to clinch a derby victory, having picked up a point at the Bridge earlier this season. Berbatov’s owners will be desperate for Bryan Ruiz to recover from the hamstring problem which makes a major doubt for tonight’s match with QPR, though; any length of absence would see Berbatov move to a deeper role once again. The likes of Sascha Riether should also earn further investors – the right-back has picked up attacking returns in bonus in each of the last three, while Martin Jol’s side now have three clean sheets in four.

With their chances of clinching a league and cup double now gone, United can concentrate on winning the title over the next few matches. If Sir Alex Ferguson’s side triumph in next Monday’s Manchester derby, they would be 18 points clear of City with seven matches remaining – basically, double Gameweek 33 could bring the title to the red half of Manchester. Both Stoke and West Ham are obstinate at home but Ferguson can be expected to roll out the big guns, with the recent rest and rotation policy set aside with owners of the likes of Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie and Patrice Evra feeling a little more comfortable as United look for silverware to draw a line under today’s disappointment.

Despite a crucial home win over West Brom, the Hammers – like Fulham – currently sit just six points above the drop zone. Their pair of fixtures are hardly appetising, though; Southampton have beaten City, Liverpool and Chelsea at St Mary’s in recent matches and are looking a real handful under Mauricio Pochettino, while as mentioned above, if United win their next two, they could roll up to Upton Park knowing a draw would clinch the title. Andy Carroll has now scored in each of the last three home games, while Kevin Nolan’s return from a foot injury could be key to the Hammers’ prospects. At the back, Joey O’Brien and Jussi Jaaskelainen are also set for an upturn in ownership.

Blank Gameweek 33 for Tottenham
We’ll have the usual “Scouting the Doubles” articles on all five sides closer to the time as Fantasy managers look to navigate a scenario which now sees three sides – Swansea, West Brom and Tottenham – without a fixture in Gameweek 33. This means Gareth Bale’s owners have plenty to mull over; with the Welshman out of the picture, Walcott, Cazorla and Fellaini are likely to benefit – teams holding both Bale and Michu will be hit hard by today’s turn of events.

Tottenham’s trip to Chelsea cannot be moved to the following midweek as Rafa Benitez’s side travel to Fulham in the league. From a Fantasy perspective, this would ideally be switched to Gameweek 36, giving both clubs a double along with Swansea and Wigan – the Swans entertain City at the Liberty and Wigan travel to West Brom before both sides square up at the DW.

At present, Tottenham have a home game with Southampton and Chelsea travel to United in Gameweek 36, though if both sides progress in Europe, it’s worth noting that the second leg of the Europa League semi-finals is due to take place on May 2 – the midweek before Gameweek 36 gets underway. Fantasy managers will be happy to avoid worrying over these hypothetical scenarios, though, and concentrate on what we know for certain – after today’s result, we’ve enough to deal with.

      also bear in mind this.

If Chelsea have a DGW in 36 their fixtures will be mnu, TOT, they may also have the cup final the weekend after the Tottenham game, and they may also still be in EUROPA

Rotation could be just as much of a minefield then as it is now

Well, got to keep RVP now they have a DGW, but that leaves me with little flexibility...

0.8m in the bank, keeping 2 FTs for the DGW. Thoughts?

    Begovic Bunn
    Dawson Cameron Clyne Harte MERTESACKER
    Michu Bale CAZORLA Sissoko N'Zogbia
    RVP Suarez BERBATOV

Have four DGWers at present. Want eight, and am willing to take a 4-pointer. Priorities for dumping are Michu, N'Zogbia, Begovic, and one defender (probably Cameron). Trying to cobble together a team on a shoestring now...

Don't know what to do with Sturridge, but replacing him will cost me points eventually due to DGW changes, so:

A keep Sturridge for at least one more week

B Sturr -> Lambert now (nice fixtures in mid term, whole Saints team in form)

Mata stats make me nervous about not owning him

    105 games 30 goals 50 assists btw

But I can't make room due to his price, so the Fat One will have to do.

By all accounts he looks nailed on to play league games, so I may have the worry about him not scoring as highly, but I have less worry over whether he will actually play

Have Wenger and Podolski had a fall out? I know his defensive workrate isn't to his liking but he is still better than most of the players playing ahead of him. And surely before you sign a top player you are aware of his defensive attributes?

I saw an article saying Wenger was looking to move him on as he hadn't been impressed by him, hence why he hasn't been starting.

It was in The Mirror so make of that what you will, but I can try and find it if you want

Maybe if Podolski got a few games in his actual position he'd show his potential. He's a great finisher. Just because he plays on the wing for Germany Wenger thinks he can play him there every game. It's not his position

          Portsmouth Bubblejet says:

Champions League update for the two German clubs:

Bayern Munich announced today that they will be at full strength for their tie with Juventus tomorrow, with both Alaba and Gomez set to recover from knocks. The team is on excellent form after their 9-2 mauling of Hamburger SV, although:
          a) HSV were truly appalling
          b) I still don’t like Bayern’s defending from set plays. Both HSV goals came from poorly defended corners – why won’t they put someone on the posts?

Borussia Dortmund will definitely be without long-term injuries Hummels and Owomoyela, and have some new problems after the match against Stuttgart. Schmelzer broke his nose, and would need to play in a mask against Málaga. The club are hopeful that he’ll be fit to play.

Błaszczykowski missed the match with an injury sustained on international duty, though again the club are fairly confident that he’ll recover in time. There were slight knocks too for Sven Bender and Kevin Großkreutz.

This all means that Dortmund’s CL team is less easy to predict than Bayern’s. Amongst other issues, there are four defensive midfielders (Bender, Gündogan, Sahin & Kehl) fighting for two places. You’d expect the first two to be preferred, with Sahin an option if Bender is a doubt, and Kehl being selected if Klopp is looking for a defensive formation, or if Bender has to fill in at left-back.

This season hasn't been up to par with the others, I'll admit that.

              Yes, highly bland season.

Was really amped for an epic finale to make up for it. Alas, to no avail.

The entire season has been abysmal. I thought to myself 'Even they can't manange to feck up the conflict between the two groups' and they did just that.

For those pondering when to play their WC:

    - of the main decent DGW33 teams; ARS, EVE and UTD (and even WHM) all have ok fixtures in GW34
    - of the main decent (probable) DGW36 teams; MCI, CHE, TOT all have very nice fixtures in GW35.

Seems to me that, as long as you can get an ok team out for GW33 without excessive points spend, GW35 is the ideal time to play the WC.

I agree that GW36 has a bit more appeal than 33 but my theory is because none of us know which DGW will turn out to be the most valuable 33 has merit as it still gives you a few weeks to prepare for 36 and get the key players in especially if 33 turns out to be below par whereas a poor 36 doesn't gives you much time to recover.

      plus

      a) we don't yet know that the 2 missing games will go into 36

      b) If they do Chelsea's double is mnu, TOT, hardly appealing, and if they're in the cup final and/or EUROPA even less so. I'd be happy with just Lamps from Chelsea.

If I save the GW32 transfer I can have this for (-8) in GW33:

    DDG
    DEMEL, SAGNA, BAINES
    WALCOTT, CAZ, FELLAINI, Snodgrass
    Suarez, BERB, ROONEY

    Should I go for it?

Yes. Snodgrass could easily be a 2 pointer so see if there are any worthwhile DGW midfielders you can afford.

        Are you suggesting a -12 for 10 DGWers? 😯

What I might do is have the team above, minus Snodgrass, but keep Michu on the bench along with Bale and play Shaw. Still 9 DGWers, but 4-3-3. I would like that as I would have Michu still for GW36.

Michu, Sess, Migs, and Luiz to DDG, Sagna, Wally, and Fellaini. Another option is keep Michu and trade in Snodgrass, leaving me the same 9 DGWers but Michu and Bale on the bench and Shaw added to the back.
