Spot the Differential – Gameweek 36

Another frantic Friday comes to a close with our pre-weekend regular. This week’s trio of overlooked alternatives all have a double Gameweek on their hands and offer Fantasy managers options right across the price brackets as the market continues to escalate ahead of tomorrow morning’s deadline.

Oscar

As the season comes to a close, Chelsea’s summer signing is finally starting to make his mark domestically. Oscar’s most impressive exploits had been kept mainly for the European stage, with Juan Mata and Eden Hazard racking up the goals and assists in the Premier League, but over the last few matches he has become increasingly influential.

The Brazilian has started three of the last four Gameweeks for Rafa Benitez’s side and has produced attacking points in each of those first XI appearances. An assist in the 2-1 home win over Sunderland was followed up by a goal at Anfield in the 2-2 draw in Gameweek 34 – last week, however, Oscar went one better, finding the net and earning the maximum bonus points in the Blues’ 2-0 home win over Swansea.

Afforded a run out as a second-half sub in last night’s Europa League win over FC Basel, he’s expected to return to Rafa Benitez’s first-team for Sunday’s trip to Old Trafford. With the club’s hopes of a third place still in their own hands, Chelsea can ill-afford to take it easy and Oscar looks likely to get the nod for Wednesday’s home clash with Tottenham, too. Coming in at 7.8 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and 5.8 in the Sky Sports game, he’s the cheapest of Benitez’s attacking midfield trio and with an ownership of less than 2% in the former game, remains firmly under the radar ahead of Chelsea’s double.

David Silva

With Yaya Toure and Scout Pick Samir Nasri earning most of the midfield investment at City this week, the little Spaniard is another player who seems to have fallen out of favour with Fantasy managers. While Toure and Nasri have acquired 51,000+ and 27,000+ new owners, Silva has found his way into 15,000 teams – the sixth most popular player for Roberto Mancini’s side ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.

With a trip to Swansea and home clash against West Brom on his agenda, though, Silva certainly has the platform to produce as Mancini attempts to pick up the points that would guarantee a second place finish behind neighbours United. Granted, Mancini’s tinkering could ultimately prove a problem but we’ve reached the stage of the season now where many are prepared to risk it – with three sets of double figures in his last five at home, Silva has hinted at the form that racked up 184 FPL points in the previous campaign. Fully-fit after a recent hamstring problem, he comes in at 9.1 in FPL (9.0 in the Sky Sports game) and will be determined to end a bitterly disappointing season with a flourish.

Jordi Gomez

Having cut a peripheral figure for Wigan over much of the season, the Spaniard has finally nailed down a regular role over the last few matches. Gomez has now started the last six in central midfield for Roberto Martinez’s side and while he hasn’t quite hit the heights that produced a 20 point haul against Reading back in Gameweek 13, he’s looking key to his side’s chances of survival.

While Shaun Maloney and Arouna Kone have received the vast majority of Wigan investment this week, Gomez – with spot-kick duties in his locker – offers an alternative option ahead of a trip to West Brom and home showdown with Swansea. Five points from safety but with a game in hand, victory in these games looks essential for the Latics’ survival bid and with everything now on the line, there’s no more margin for error. Coming in at 5.2 in FPL and 5.7 in the Sky Sports game, Gomez has an ownership of less than 1% in both games but may be worth a gamble for those willing to throw the dice.

I've got exactly 0.4 to do Walcott out for Silva. I'm chasing. Is it worth the risk? No hit required. No other arsenal cover but I do have Tevez.

I feel guilty not using my transfer during a dgw though. I've currently only got 5 dgw players. Mainly cos I don't have any dgw defenders. Nasri perhaps?

Good afternoon lads, plz help! I've asked this question 3 times this week but because it's the most important H2H match of season for me. If I win this match I will win the ML.

H2H rival front 7 this week (he showed it)

Bale Michu Lampard Maloney (bench: Santi)
    RVP Tevez Lukaku

    My front 8

    Bale Michu Mata Maloney Walcott

Who to bench in this case?

Bench a less motivated Van Persie, godlen boot is won, against a decent Chelsea defence chasing CL spot. Walcott, also chasing CL spot, is more motivated v a weak enough QPR defence.

I've seen people starting Davies over the likes of baines. I think this is a case of dgw fever. His most common points tally recently has been a big fat zero. One of the games is vs city and he's not nailed on! I've got him third on my bench behind Lambert and Enrique, with mertesacker starting!

I'm sticking to my guns on this. Struggling to imagine a scenario where Davies will actually get a decent score. City surely score 2 vs Swansea, and Wigan fighting for their lives won't be sitting back that's for sure.

QPR vs arsenal screams likely clean sheet in my book.

Nothing wrong with that. Luiz is the only Chelsea I slightly wish I could have brought in. Couldn't afford him. He could be huge next season

Argh wish the deadline would hurry up

I had decided to keep Cazorla and go with no Chelsea but now I'm back thinking that it will shoot me in the foot as the 2 teams behind me in the ML have him...

It will be for -8pts if I get him though

I've got no Chelsea and comfortable about it. Nobody will captain Chelsea so it's nothing to be terrified of.

Stick. They're behind you, not the other way around. Dropping another 4 cuts their gap to you.

Your hands are tied. You have to bench Theo.

It's a close call but Walcott has a higher chance of falling on his shoulder and scoring less than Michu

My other concern is lukaku starts. If e misses first game, it becomes Walcott away at qpr vs lukaku away at man city

I get the feeling you made 1 too many transfers! Bench Walcott.

Talking of Basel, did anyone see in the first half when the Basel player was trying to take a corner and the stewards were just barging past him... too funny

I did Fellaini to Nasri but I have a sneaky suspicion that Fellaini might do something

I also got rid of Lambert, but got Kone

I haven't benched RVP, too scared

            Jussi

            Demel Baines Vertong

            Lampard Michu Bale Maloney Nasri

            Tevez Lukaku

i could just go....Lambert to Defoe, Baines to Kompany instead

So is the general consensus that Nasri won't start both games?

I wouldnt like to 2nd guess Mancini, that would be insane BUT Nasri has played very little minutes this season if you check his history. He should be very fresh and has really hit some form.

I could have him or Hart (or Komp) as my 3rd City spot. It's a bitch deciding which one to be honest. I always lean towards the most attacking as a general rule

Cheers PM. I have got Baines, Davies and Vertonghen at the moment. Just cant seem to bring myself to bench Baines. Was concerned that Taylor could cut into Davies game time and not sure if Swansea will keep any clean sheets. On the other hand Norwich and Arsenal may well keep clean sheets. Ah well. Life is tough aye!!!
