Scout Scribbles – Hernandez Close to Swansea Comeback

Pablo Hernandez could be back for Swansea’s home game with Sunderland next weekend. Robin Van Persie admits he needed injections to play in United’s match against the Black Cats last week, Daniel Sturridge praises his flourishing partnership with Luis Suarez, Ashley Cole remains sidelined with a rib problem and Mladen Petric is looking for his first start for the Hammers against City:

Hernandez Targets Swans Return

Swansea were handed a major boost yesterday after their Spanish midfielder revealed he was closing in on a return to action for the first time since late August. Speaking to the club’s official website, Hernandez seemed optimistic of proving his fitness in time for next weekend’s home game against basement-dwellers Sunderland:

“It was a shame for me because I felt I put in my best performance so far this season against West Brom, and then I pick up a hamstring problem. I’ve had to miss seven games so it has been a frustrating period. But now I feel stronger and more confident of being available for the Sunderland game. This week has been very important for me and hopefully, with a couple of more days training, the manager will see that I am ready for this game.”

The Scout Says: After a strong pre-season for Michael Laudrup’s side , Hernandez was quick to make an impact on the domestic front with a goal, two assists and three bonus points in the opening three Gameweeks of the campaign earning him a bandwagon. Having since dropped from 6.2 to 5.9, a return to action is likely to bring him back onto Fantasy radars ahead of a very favourable run of games – with home matches against Sunderland, West Ham and Stoke allied with trips to Cardiff and Fulham in the next five, Hernandez – whose ownership now sits at just 3% – is definitely one to monitor if he can prove his fitness prior to the weekend deadline.

Sturridge Praises Suarez Partnership

Daniel Sturridge has discussed his flourishing up front partnership with Luis Suarez after the Uruguayan’s return from suspension has helped Liverpool climb to second in the table:

“He’s a nice guy and we have great chemistry on the field, and we get on well off it so it’s good. It’s easier when you’ve got somebody like Luis, who can help you share the goals out, and we’ve also got the likes of Steven Gerrard and Victor Moses who can pitch in. So there are goals throughout the team. Hopefully we can continue with the form we’ve got at the moment.”

The Scout Says: Currently top scorer in the Premier League, there’s no doubt Sturridge’s prospects have been boosted by Suarez’ comeback. While many had feared the Uruguayan’s return would dent his the former Chelsea player’s prospects, Brendan Rodgers’ decision to move to 3-5-2 has bolstered Sturridge’s appeal – with Suarez alongside him, he has produced 23 points in two games compared to 31 in five games without him. Given that Liverpool have scored six games in two games since Suarez’ reinstallation, in comparison to five strikes in the opening five, it seems unlikely Rodgers will change his new system, allowing Sturridge to continue his recent form ahead of games against Newcastle, West Brom and Fulham in the next four.

Van Persie Reveals Toe Concern

The United forward has admitted that he went against doctors advice to play in last weekend’s trip to Sunderland. Van Persie had to undertake injections in order to feature against the Black Cats but revealed he’s unlikely to risk his fitness in such a way again:

“Against Shakhtar I got such a hard kick on my toe, I immediately thought it was broken. It was so sore. On the Thursday, after returning to Manchester, I had a scan. Eight years ago I broke a bone on my other foot and it felt like a similar injury. I was so relieved there was no fracture visible, but doctors told me it was badly bruised. I was told to rest it, but I wanted to play against Sunderland. So we did what they call a quick fix. The medics gave me an injection. But I have said I won’t do that again. If I keep having injections in my toe, it is not going to improve. It will get more sensitive and painful. I have to admit it was a gamble playing against Hungary. I’d not trained and you never know how that can work out when you play again.”

The Scout Says: Having scored a hat-trick in Friday’s win over Hungary, the Dutchman showed little of the lethargy that seems to have affected his domestic displays in recent weeks. With his confidence flowing once again after becoming his nation’s all-time top scorer, Van Persie’s owners will be desperate for more of the same as United prepare for a run which hands them three home matches and trips to Fulham and Cardiff in the following five Gameweeks. The news also dispels any fears that David Moyes would be somewhat cautious with Van Persie’s game time due to United’s busy schedule – the Dutchman had failed to play 90 minutes since Gameweek 3 prior to the trip to Wearside but in spite of the toe concern, was fielded for the full game as Moyes looked to recover from back-to-back league defeats.

Cole Remains Sidelined with Rib Complaint

The FA have confirmed Ashley Cole has been ruled out of England’s match with Poland tomorrow with an ongoing rib problem.

The Scout Says: Subbed off against Norwich last time out as Jose Mourinho shifted to a three-man backline, Cole had looked a decent differential option as the Blues prepare for a run of eight games against the current bottom 10 over the next 11 fixtures. He currently sits in just 5% of FPL teams compared to Branislav Ivanovic’s 30%, despite the fact he has returned the same number of points (31) as th Serbian so far but having missed both the recent World Cup qualifiers, the left-back now looks a doubt heading into Chelsea’s home clash with Cardiff on Saturday.

Petric Hoping for Hammers Start

West Ham’s free signing is pushing for a starting role after stepping up his fitness over the last few days. The Croatian found the net in a recent behind-closed-doors match against Charlton and spoke of his determination to nail down a regular role:

“I played 90 minutes after a long time which was very good for me and of course I’m glad to score a goal, but it’s only a friendly, so it doesn’t count for too much. I feel better and better each day and I don’t think it’s long before I will feel 100 per cent fit.I hope to be involved (against Manchester City) but it’s the manager who decides and we will see.”

The Scout Says: With Andy Carroll still stuck in the treatment room with a heel injury, Modibo Maiga has failed to take advantage of a recent run of games. The latter started each of the first six Gameweeks but, after failing to find the net, was replaced by Ricardo Vaz Te for the trip to Spurs last time out as Allardyce opted for a formation which looked more like a 4-6-0. Given the success of their trip to the Lane, with Va Te amongst the scorers in a 3-0 win, it remains to be seen whether the Hammers boss will alter his approach as City pay visit next weekend – Vaz Te could well retain his starting berth, forcing Petric to warm the bench once more.

    My team:

    Mignolet (Boruc)

    Collins Coleman Dawson (Whittaker Chester)

    Barkley Ramsey Ozil Yaya (Arfa)

    Giroud Sturridge Suarez

I want Michu but cannot afford a straight swap for Arfa so:

    1. Arfa > Hernandez

    Or

    2. Arfa > Michu and Giroud/Sturr > Lukaku

I have been mulling this over for near on 10 days now and still no idea. I think Gir/Sturr/Lukaku are all as likely to score so I suppose it comes down to Michu / Hernandez – Is Michu that much better and will Hernandez even play?

    Cheers

I would take a guess that Hernandez will be on the bench for his first game as he's been out a while.
I would do option 2 taking Giroud out and pray he doesn't score but only if you have 2 freebies. Otherwise i wouldn't do it

Thanks, I think I will probably end up doing 2 (and could easliy get burnt), largely because nobody has sturr in my ML so I wouldnt lose any ground, I want Michu for the upcomin fix and I dont feel super easy about having both SAS (akthough they fired last time out)

I'd be playing 3-4-3 and benching Zaba. West Ham are strong at home, particularly from set pieces. City are generally worse without Kompany (7 games so far isn't a good yardstick) and definitely worse at defending set pieces without him. If there was ever a time to play Januzaj it would be now, highly likely to start, at home, full of confidence.

Eventually I'm looking to do Ozil to Walcott. I can do it next week for free barring any injuries, but I'm starting to think holding Ozil through gws 10&11 (LIV & utd) might be a better idea.

I guess my question is, is Walcott a stronger option than Ozil in any game or just in general over a season? I always tend to feel the players dominating set pieces and the creative ones do best in the big games, and Ozil fulfills both categories.

its basically a coin flip as to who will score more on a given week but over the season IF Walcott stays fit i think he would be Arsenal's top scorer overall.

With arsenal playing football of old, they're less likely to counter, as they're possession and all round game has VASTLY improved this season...you will seem ore play through the middle and less reliance on walcott and his goals....footballing brain of Mezut is 2/3 moves ahead of Theo...i think Corzola & Giroud will be the primary beneficiaries of this truly well balanced arsenal midfield

      OZIL > WALCOTT

I agree. I'm not at all sure that Walcott will thrive now. He is strong when Arsenal plays counter, but how much do they get to play it this season in premier league? I doubt it's very much. Özil has great returns in both goals and assists these last few years.

No, I do not have Özil.

Not sure if either of you saw the game where Ozil got 3 assists? Theo could and should have bagged at least 2 goals, and has had excellent chances to score very game so far.

I agree he is most lethal on the counter but from what I've seen I'd say he's the most likely to get on the end of an Ozil or Cazorla assist and in general is more of a threat than Giroud (no stats to back this up, purely based on watching games).

Pretty much most of what he says can be taken with a pinch of salt. I'd imagine Mata will become the No.10 again soon if Mourinho takes notice of how much more he influences games. Yes he could play both together but then he'd be benching Schurrle and Willian every game.

Hazard is probably the safest attacking pick there

Oscar and Hazard are both head and shoulders above the other attacking mids in terms of security of starts.
Rotation of course for all of them but Oscar is clearly preferred in the #10 role.

      1) He will be by Christmas, but between now and then I'm unsure how long it will take Moyes to settle on his best team (and realize defensive rotation in particular should be avoided as much as poss).

      2) Yes, 100%.

I currently have Vidic, but seeing as I have spare cash I have no plans for, wish I had got Evra instead. By miles United's best defensive option.

I think Rafael will be nailed on as Jones/Smalling/Valencia have been woeful.
I would still have Evra because he's more a goal threat from corners and hes far less injury prone. Rafeal WILL get injured again.

This forecast by Darren Bent made me smile, has he not wondered why a player of Taarabts age, who is in training in the middle of October, is still unfit! http://www.getwestlondon.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/fulham-forward-tips-taarabt-shine-6173973?

Ok, current team for this week, not sure whether to spend or save a transfer? 2.7m bank, nothing really pressing, aside from Collins vs City/Clyne vs Utd. Would like Oscar in, maybe a Chelsea def, maybe Walcott in for Ramsey in due course...so many options!

    Mignolet
    Coleman Zabaleta Collins
    Ramsey Yaya Eriksson Wanyama
    RVP Lukaku(c) Sturridge

    Harper Clyne Brady Chester

    a, Collins>Terry - gives me 10 strong starters and rotate Clyne/Brady as 11th man+first sub
    b, Eriksson>Oscar
    c, save for Ramsey>Walcott (only 0.1 short)
d, save for 2FT next week and give RVP one last chance?

I'm leaning towards a, as my defence could do with a boost??

Another debate: Migs or Boruc, and with whom.

I'm one of those lucky ones who have had both Migs and Boruc since day one 😀

But now they have too similar fixtures, giving me GW's with both GK's having away matches and possibly tough ones too, whilst also leaving me with the tough decision on which one to bench when they have profitable home matches.

So, to me it is pretty clear that it is not a viable option to have both (please argue if you think it is) and sooner or later, rather sooner, I have to part ways with one of them. Which one would you ship out, and with whom would you pair the one who stays?

I wouldn't use a transfer on a goal keeper until you get your WC for the January transfer window. It just isn't a priority and they're both good.

In weeks that you don't like either of their matchups:
      - start Mignolet once Glen Johnson is back
      - start Boruc until Glen Johnson is back

I'd cash in on Mignolet and get a second cheaper playing keeper.. Mine is Speroni because he rotates nicely with Boruc.

I've been thinking the other way around: keep Migs for favorable fixtures, and replace Boruc with a GK with favorable fixtures. Which would be Howard (perfect rotation with Pool). But am I crazy to waste 11M on GK's, and even better on two GK's with combined 1 CS in last 4 GW's?

Looks like there's good advice in the room at the moment, so I'll repost this question I posted in the DZ last night to see if it comes out the same.

Got about 30 hours to decide what to do with my FT

    a) Moses -> Oscar
    b) Debuchy -> Vlaar
    c) Debuchy -> BTurner

Starting to feel like A, except that will mean I don't have money on hand to get Glen Johnson or any other premium defender.

After transfer in of Oscar, team would be

    Cech Boruc
    Coleman Kolo Debuchy Shaw MTurner
    Ozil Michu Oscar Barkley Ramsey
    Suarez Giroud Lukaku

Only have enough money in the bank for Oscar while he's 8.8, hence the timeline for the decision (which I think will let me wait until after his international friendly).

Defense is a shambles, but I can sort that out in the coming weeks.

Getting Oscar this week is a risk I think, he didn't start GW4 before a CL game so it is quite possible that he won't start this weekend. Plus he has played two international games with the most travel so Jose might look to rest before an important trip to Schalke.

Its horrible for the next 3 weeks, but I think keeping hold of Debuchy could be very fruitful. From gw12, he has outstanding fixtures.

I like A, but not sure on Oscar for long term. Not too many other options for 8.8 though so he's probably the best fit. Saying that, who on earth would you then bench from your front 8?!

Surely Arfa/Giroud > Michu/Lukaku is a good long term move? I know Giroud has a couple of good fix but he has for the last 3 and I don't see him being explosive like I do lukaku…and Arfa>Michu is a no-brainer right?

I think that will work for you.

I have Giroud, Studge and Rooney and am considering Giroud or Rooney out but would bring in Ramsey as have Ozil already.

If I were you though I would keep Suarez, Studge out for Lukaku and hold Giroud for 2 weeks then look at Tekkers

That sounds sensible for you. Sturrdige was my original swap for Lukaku (but then he went and scored a load of points last week darn him 😉 !) For balance Sturridge is probably best, leaving a front 8 of:

            Ozil Barkley Michu Yaya (Ramsey)

            Lukaku Suarez Giroud

Then as you say, Giroud > Tekkers in a couple of weeks

The new on trend formation sweeping the prem of 4231
Seems to have had a dramatic affect on FPL points

Ok early days but interesting how the wide men if the 3 have all failed in a fantasy sense , but the central guys ...the box to box mids have thrived

Oscar success - Hazard fail and so on
    Barkley success -Miralles fail
    Ramsey/ Ozil - Walcott nada
Rooney tick - united wingers nothing
Yaya yes - silva under performed

Is this a trend or a quirk ???

Should we really be all running for theo when he returns or piling into those in the hole mid & box to box mids

I have had Silva on a few occasions over the last couple of seasons. Have promised myself I wont go there again.

Relies too much on assists and is not a captain option yet costs premium price.

          Avoid imo.

Whilst Yaya plays deeper he is more likely to play and arguably more likely to score than Silva, also on free kicks.

Suarez is the one i wouldn't transfer out. You could always not bring in Lukaku 😀

Better to have lukaku than double up on SAS imo. I'd probably lose Saurez so you have more cash to play with.

It'll be a waste of FT if you use it to change that frontline. Save.

I count two but i don't think having SAS is a good tactic, Studge is cheaper and has a better points per game ratio so getting rid of Suarez is logical imo

      Interesting replies guys

Suarez is the season keeper in my view...

Sturridge is in great form, would be madness to sell him now...

Giroud has fixtures on his side and arsenal are top of the league...

Might save the transfer for the time being

How does this WC team look?

    Cech £4.0m keeper

    Terry Baines Zabaleta Johnson Clyne

    Michu Mata Barkley Morrison Januzaj

    Lukaku Giroud Aguero

    To play 4-3-3 most weeks

    Too many gambles??

Defense is very heavy, downgrade one of them who can then rotate with Clyne then use the money to improve one of your cheap mids.

Mata looks a great differential! But I can see you having headaches on who to bench when your cheaper players have favourable fixtures. Looks good though, best of luck!

Has it come to the point where we assume Morrison is Ravel and don't even think about James?

      Crazy strong back-line.

You may want Bentenke in there depending on news.

Januzaj is the pick that bugs me the post. Can't see him starting more than 2 out of 3 games, quite possibly less. Not ideal for a 5th mid you're hoping comes off the bench with points if another player is out.

he's been manu's best wide man by some distance when i've seen him. Deserves his place. Could be a massive bargain, if not, i'll switch him for brady in a few weeks.

Not enough points potential in that midfield. Needs more Arsenal and Liverpool attack imo. Like the Aguero pick.

Has there been anyone advocating punting on Townsend around these parts?

That last sentence is the problem - his decision making on when and where to shoot is appalling. Kills off promising attacks by shooting from daft angles.

Plus the threat of rotation. Erik Lamela is Spurs' record signing - he ain't gonna sit on the bench forever.

Second time I've heard this mentioned since the start of the season, while there is not an article where Paulinho, Eriksen and Siggy.

You'd be moving into the temporary punt bracket, but still, after flailing shotguns shot on sight until now, that England performance might just have galvanized the kid.

If scoring would propel you up the ranks for sure.
