Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Galling

A couple of Frenchman are set for a short stint on the sidelines after falling foul of the referee’s wrath over the weekend’s fixtures. Mathieu Debuchy and Mathieu Flamini received their fifth yellow cards of the campaign, meaning both are set to serve a one-match suspension in Gameweek 12:

Debuchy’s caution in Newcastle’s 1-0 win at White Hart Lane will force him out of the upcoming home game against Norwich as Alan Pardew’s side go in search of a third successive clean sheet. The right-back’s absence is a real blow to the Tyneside team – he has played every minute of the season so far, though the versatile Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa could deputise, allowing fit-again Fabricio Coloccini the chance to slot in alongside Mike Williamson in the heart of the backline.

Flamini has certainly show a flair for racking up the cards since returning to the Emirates this summer. The holding midfielder has received five cautions in just 511 minutes’ game time – his absence for the upcoming visit of Southampton should see Aaron Ramsey shift back into the double-pivot alongside Mikel Arteta, after the Welshman was moved to the right flank once again away to United yesterday.

The Suspension Tightrope welcomed a number of new faces in the Gameweek gone by. West Brom duo Jonas Olsson and Claudio Yacob, Hull’s defensive rock Curtis Davies, Fulham’s Scott Parker, Chelsea right-back Branislav Ivanovic and Norwich’s Michael Turner all climbed aboard on Saturday. Sunday’s matches saw Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere, Spurs centre-half Michael Dawson, City’s Javi Garcia, United utility man Phil Jones, Stoke centre-half Robert Huth, Swansea pair Chico and Angel Rangel and Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko also earn their fourth bookings of the season.

Only four clubs – Liverpool, Cardiff, Palace and Southampton – are not represented in the updated widget on your sidebar, which now heaves under the weight of 23 players.

In terms of ongoing suspensions, Sunderland pair Andreas Dossena and Lee Cattermole will sit out the second of a three-match ban in the upcoming round of matches– both will be available for the Gameweek 14 visit of Chelsea. Swansea stopper Michel Vorm makes a return after serving a one-match ban in Sunday’s 3-3 draw with Stoke.

    Here's my team
    Boruc (McGregor)
GJ - Coleman - Chester (Collins - Clyne)
Sess - Ozil - Januzaj - Arnautovic (Ravel)
    Aguero - Suarez - Lukaku

    1 FT 3.3 m in bank

I could do Lukaku -> Rooney
but I feel I should use the money strengthen my midfield when Silva comes back (will do Ozil -> Walcott eventually as well)

Think I should do McGregor -> Krul/Guzan this week instead

    what do you think?

I'm a long time Lamps owner too.. He's playing too deep now and doesn't have much chances on goals besides the odd free kick.. It hurts that when Chelsea was finally awarded a penalty that Lamps wasn't on the pitch to take it!

Regarding Kagawa. I was just wondering if there are any other people like me out there who think Borussia are way overrated. All the players that leave have failed so far, the great Hummels looked below par in the Euros.

I really want to see how Levandowski will do after he leaves. I will say one thing though, Klopp is an awesome coach.

Goetze was their best player too. No doubt they are a great team. But not on par with the great teams, more like Arsenal, Atletico, etc. About Kags we might never know, the PL is a different animal, soft players like him often fail over here. He is probably best used in the CL games, difficult to see where though as he sucks on the wing.

What would you do, would you drop Persie or Roo to accommodate Kags?

I would just change system to something similar to Arsenal. If we played 4-2-3-1 rooney could still be no.10 with RVP up top but kagawa would have cazorla's role. Cazorla isn't really a left winger at arsenal. He doesn't have that much responsibilty to track back and help gibbs or stay wide. He just floats as Arteta and Flamini mop up. Atm kagawa is on the left wing and has to track back a lot which ruins his play. The two in midfield at united are not holding mids like at arsenal, they are more traditional center mids and kagawa needs those holding mids behind him

I personally dont like him and prefer if Januzaj starts ahead of him most games. He is just so sluggish and his slick passing and ball control just is not for my taste. For me he needs to adapt or move on, simple as that. He is not as good that we should make this big of a fuss about him. I do think if he has a will to work he can be good as he has potential and he is better than Young or Nani

lost respect for your argument now. ibra didn't play at barca for a lot of the time he was there. he was good enough but he didn't fit the system with messi. just like kagawa and rooney don't fit in united's system that moyes has currently

do you not rate cazorla either then? I think kagawa could do what he does for arsenal if we accomodated him in the same way. you say don't make a fuss, he should adapt but I really think united need to adapt. we set out to stifle arsenal yesterday and contain. we were the home team. they should be working to stifle us! we played like everton used to under moyes. that was not to my taste really

I like Caz a bit more as I like mids who can shoot when they have the opportunity. Not only walk the ball in and be tidy on the ball, you also see more passion from him and more work on defense. At the same time I am not a football expert it is just my opinion. But on Caz i think he is not effective in that area and that wont bring success for Arsenal in the long term

Kagawa scored 17 goals for borussia before he came. Klopp regarded him as having the best eye for goal of any of his midfielders. Reus only scored two more goals more for Borussia last season and suddenly everyone thinks he should replace Kagawa. Don't get it. Fair enough though, agree to disagree on this one I guess. I think Kagawa showed what he can do if united change system in that game at norwich. I know it is an isolated incident and it was norwich but still

Bundesliga is a different league, PL is the only league where you really need to hit the gym to compete even as a small player with speed. That is mostly why English teams look poorer in the CL as continental teams get to spend the hours English players spend in the gym training their passing and movement. This also makes them faster and since they get much more protection from the refs it is not an issue. In england you cant do that you need to take contact and give it as well, if you are not able to you wont succeed. And this is why I love this league and hope this never changes. If you watch Kags play he just so anonimous always(looks like he does not want the ball). He is the type of player I hate the most in terms of style not his personality.

Mata is similar though he shows more heart and willingness to fight. Compare these guys to players like Ramsay or Gerrard, Carrick who can attack and defend as well there is no contest for me personally

He doesn't fit into Moyes's team like Mata doesn't fit into Mourinho's team.. Some players just aren't as versatile as others and Kagawa is much better in the no. 10 role than a winger

    b) Punt on Remy (-4) for NOR WBA
then switch to Rooney. no hit. after news that he's not jailed.

Rooney is a good captain option this week. Remy too to some extent with Norwich but too incosistent for a captain choice.
