Just wandering how easy it is to overplay fpl. If we'd chosen some longtime favourites or last seasons heroes see how well it could've gone:

    Jaaskelainen 54 +4
    Baines 64 Vertonghen 63 Metesacker 55 Clyne 43 +4
    Gerrard 55 Nolan 42 Hazard 60 +4.5 +4.5
    Aguero 84 Giroud 63 Lambert 55

    £99.5mil starting prices

638 with no captain points (90k), captaining Aguero 722 (rank 468).

These numbers aren't really buoyed up much either, the inclusion of rvp, michu or mirallas gives pretty much the same totals.

Gerrard, Aguero and Giroud were hardly favourites. No-one would have spent that much on defence. Your analysis is pretty flawed. I'm sure you could pick a similar team of previous 'favourites' that have flopped.

That's very true. what I was trying to say was, if we pick the boring players, ie aguero and gerrard have consistency in their returns for years now, and giroud was an easy pick due to his preseason and being the only striker, then we could still do well. We don't need to overcomplicate things with players who have done well for 1-3 gameweeks ie sess, lallana and previously barfa barkley, as they're just distractions.

Here's a little discussion point. I always think that in FPL, you've gotta know when to "go for it" and when to consolidate. I am mainly talking about transfers here, although it also applies to captaincy choice.

E.g. Two weeks ago, I decided to take a hit to bring in and captain Aguero (against Hull)...here I was definitely "going for it" and buying myself a captain that was a relative differential at the time, certainly in my Minileagues anyway.

This week I have done Barkley > Ramsey...this is definitely consolidating, or just plain boring.

Do you know what I mean?

What are you doing this week? Going for it? Or consolidating?

The third was probably because of the late injury to Michu, which didn't appear to work out very well, since his replacement Nasri only scored 2..

If a hit is taken in order to be able to field 11 players or to bring an essential player like Suarez or Aguero in quickly then I would regard that as consolidation rather than "going for it". That is different from taking a punt on a less popular player when there is a significant risk that he may score less than the more popular alternatives, with or without a hit, but with the potential upside that if the new player scores highly then he might be a powerful differential. I would not regard bringing in Nasri against Sunderland to replace an injured player when the bench was very weak as being a bad choice or a big punt - Evs was just unfortunate that Nasri did not live up to reasonable expectations on this occasion.

Hits and punts can both sometimes work out well, but taking too many of either is not to be recommended.

That's brilliant. It's a good feeling when hits come through in spades like that. My most successful season I took a lot more points hits than usual and got them right almost every week. I find failure from hits makes more cautious and unwilling to gamble though.

Interesting topic. Chasing last weeks points is definitely a form of consolidating where getting the likes of Aguero, Ramsey and Suarez may have become somewhat essential. I think attacking intent is when you pick players who may not have done it yet but look promising. This week I have bought in Coutinho and Snodgrass so thats definitely 'going for it'.

I don't think we can look a hits on just a weekly basis.

I think that's too short sighted...

We should look at the cumulative effect of taking hits over the course of the entire season.

I mean in the end, it's our 'Total Score' that truly matters.

Come GW38 if we've managed to earn ourselves even "1" extra point then we've done well.

In your case, you're 'up' 71pts so in effect you're playing with house money...

      Sure why not.
I think Gerrard will chug away with consistent decent scores this season, with the odd big one.

I you want to bring in Wally like everyone else could be a good player to have until Wally is starting for sure and producing.

Evening lads, this look a solid team to you for next GW, any drastic changes needed?
    Migs
    Chico Chester Zaba
    Sess Oscar Ramsey Arnautovic
    Suarez Aguero Rooney (c)
Bench: K. Davis Rat Delph Brayford

I was thinking about playing Chester ahead of Rat as if he doesnt start, he is unlikely to come on as a sub, but if he does start he has a higher chance of getting a CS. Trying to be too clever there?

    Cheers.

Manchester United are planning a January bid for Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus in deal that could see Shinji Kagawa move in the opposite direction."

I don't understand this Reus story. Rooney plays in the hole. Why would we buy another top no.10 from Dortmund and play him OOP?

      United need a pure winger.

No worries. He used to play in The whole, but last season as well with The start of this he's on The left side with Mkhitaryan in The hole behind Lewa and Aubameyang on The right.

Good players need to be bought. Just look at Chelsea's transfer policy and how many #10's they have. Admittedly it might not be the best strategy.

Reus play out wide on The left in a 4231 with Mhtariyan (no idea how you spell his name) so I can't see how it would be a problem really.
