Not often acclaimed for his sage-like wisdom, Granville is enjoying his season in the sun and is firing advice, sympathy and jibes my way, in equal measure. With little to lose, I’ve even resorted to taking his guidance on board. After spending points on transfers on the Mancunian’s recommendation, I’m looking on my squad with optimistic eyes, although Granville is far from convinced that I made the “greatest hits”.

After raining on my revival parade, Granville joins me to talk Suarez, Oscar vs Hazard and Jim Bowen before we roll out the podcast regulars – “All Aboard”, the weekend preview and the usual dalliance with the ScoutCast team.

    Shameless repost, but I did write this with a broken hand (newborn on the other arm), and it took me bloomin ages - thoughts appreciated....

    Is now as good a time as any to replace Toure?

    Would like to leave enough cash for the option of Nasri -> Walcott next week, which means I'd have up to 6.0m for Toure's replacement this week. Wanting Walcott also rules out an ARS defender. I think my options are below - whatcha reckon?

    (A) GJ - good attacking threat and decent fixtures. Toughie this week though.

    (B) McAuley - good attacking threat and rotates superbly with Clyne. Seems a tad expensive though.

    (C) C Davies - cheap, good attacking threat with a great fixture this week. Also leaves enough cash for Mirallas -> Michu/Cout in GW14 (A and B don't). Not overly convinced with Hull as a defensive outfit though

    (D) Save transfer

    My absolute car crash of a team:

    Bench: Camp, Dikgacoi, Chester, N. Taylor. 1.9m, 1FT.

    Need to shift a defender to put out 11 probably, so thinking Taylor to Ridgewell/McAuley. Question is, do I just do that, or spend points on Paulinho to Sessegnon.

        True, but I'm thinking long term. Trying to get my team to a point where I'm vaguely happy with it and don't have to make the annoying, tinkering transfers, and can think about the bigger picture a bit more.

        I think Sess looks like a great "fire and forget" option for the winter. Would be happier playing him every week than Paulinho, who doesn't appear to be converting anything like enough of his shots.

    Chance'd be a fine thing. Spending points like they're going out of fashion thus far! Was tempted earlier in the week to go all out with a mini wildcard (aka 12 points) to ship out Chester and Dikgacoi, then I really could sit back for a week next week.

    Just had a look at HUL's home defensive performances - quite impressive:

    - 1st in league for clean sheets
    - 1st in league for fewest goals conceded
    - 1st in league for fewest number of big chances conceded
    - 5th in league for least shots conceded in box

    Really tempted to take a punt on Davies this week (to be played for CPL, STO and FUL in the run up to the Jan WC). Oh and he has a bigger goal threat than McAuley also 😯

        I think his goal threat is worth the 0.2m over Figueroa, so it's whether he's worth the 0.6-0.7 over Chester/Rosenior/Faye. I think there's some doubt as to who starts from these 3 right? I'd also definitely want them to start this week, which kinda rules Chester out.
