The Community Round Up

Christmas came early this year, as the community tampered with a rather smart online toy offering analysis of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points won and lost. We examine this, along with an array of the week’s other hot topics and glance at the latest developments in our community leagues, whilst revealing if anyone was close to guessing Mark’s predictably doomed Gameweek 13 transfers.

The Hottest Topics

It may sound like the Transformers’ latest recruit but Gargamel’s “Gargatron” is in fact a nifty FPL analysis tool which has sent the Fantasy Football Scout community into a frenzy. It’s easy to operate but works best using Google Chrome and provides a handy summary of just how good or bad your captaincy and bench decisions have been to this point – it can, however, make grizzly reading.

As competition for our three striking berths intensifies, D1sable took over the Fantasy Football Scout Daily Hot Topic on Wednesday to ask whether an ailing Christian Benteke is enduring second season syndrome or just needs more assistance from his team-mates to shine. There was mixed reaction from the thread – Ansinthe Minded was amongst those optimistic that the Belgian will return to his 2012/13 form, while King Nil Miss felt that a lack of sharpness was in evidence following Benteke’s recent groin injury.

Among the best anaylsis of Benteke’s form came from Agbonloahorse. His research shows just how relient Benteke is on Gabby Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann. Of the 28 games in which all three have started, Benteke has racked up 27 goals. In the 25 games in which one of them has failed to start, he has scored just seven goals. Eye-opening stuff.

Mr Smith has been taking a look at two other options, Wayne Rooney and Romelu Lukaku. His excellent post shows that the far cheaper Everton man is keeping pace with the United striker and, in the eight matches to Gameweek 12, had in fact notched more goals.

Just how much of a premium are Fantasy managers willing to pay for a few extra bonus points? This was the key issue covered in Dogba’s discussion on the merits of Everton’s two centre backs, Phil Jagielka and Sylvan Distin. With the pair fairly even in terms of starts and underlying attacking stats it appears that the key difference is Jagielka’s ability to hoover up bonus points on a more regular basis. But, Dogba asks, is that really worth the 0.7m premium Jagielka suitors face over his defensive partner?

Portsmouth Bubblejet has been looking ahead to the festive fixtures and concludes that Gameweeks 13 to 20 present plenty of opportunity to explore rotating options. If you fancy some cheap or mid-priced defensive and midfield candidates to rotate over Christmas, his analysis will prove invaluable.

Meanwhile, since Granville failed to correctly guess Mark’s three transfers during this week’s Scoutcast, we thought we’d give the community a chance to try their luck. Sarjeant was closest with his guess that Sturridge, Rooney and Nasri would make way for Aguero, Suarez and Ravel Morrison. If he had suggested Fulham midfielder Pajtim Kasami instead of the West Ham makeweight, he would have been spot on. Typically, all three of Mark’s signings earned just a couple of points each – while the ousted Wayne Rooney helped himself to a brace at the Lane. Painful.

Community Leagues

The leaders in In Tommy We Trust’s All Things leagues are La Roja, Chilin_Dude, Athletico Timbo, Crouch Potato, Chazza and Koneheads who, going into Gameweek 13, was ranked 532 in the world.

The last 32 in his cup also took  place this weekend. We’ll have the results of the ties between the likes of Greenwindmill and Copenhagen Allstars and La Roja against BlueHazard next week.

In HeelsOverHead’s Worst To First – 2 Million+ Club, for teams with an overall rank below 2,000,000 in the first five game weeks, seven teams have climbed into the top 500,000 and 14 are in the top 1,000,000. Going into Gameweek 13 YOLO Toure was in pole position after climbing to the lofty heights of 187,428th.

Of those taking part in  TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing league, 36 managers got the chop ahead of Gameweek 13 after failing to reach the safety score of 52.

The FFS Paddy Power Cup Second Round also took place this weekend. Look out for the results and third round draw in the next 24 hours.

I think he'll start on Wednesday - Wenger has mentioned he'll rotate the squad over the next 2 weeks and Wally has now had 3 sub appearances so he should be close to match fitness - looked decent in the few minutes he came on on Sat. At home to a lesser team - ideal opportunity imo.

Reckon it's worth a 4 pointer to do Boruc -> Panty/Gazzinga (or any other keeper 4.9m or below)?

My other keeper is Davis so if he's due back soon then I may just play with no keeper this week.

    Davis*
    Terry, Evra, Clyne
    Walcott, Ramsey, Nasri, Ravel
    Aguero, Suarez, Giroud

    Boruc*, Ward, MOlsson, Snodgrass*
Bank 2.4m [want to keep at least 2.3m in the bank for Giroud -> Rooney next week]

A few weeks ago it was either Ravel against Chelsea or El Ahmadi against West Brom. Most people on here would have said play Ravel. I played El Ahmadi and he got like 7 or 8 points, where as Ravel got 2. It was worth it 😉

Yeah, know the feeling eh. Did the same getting in Snodgrass before his goal when everyone advised against it, and also Evra the week after that (he scored too!). Think I'm swaying towards a hit this week. Just need to decide which keeper to plump for.

Yea it's definitely swarm mentality on here.

The amount of posters warning me of impending doom when i decided against selling Benteke for Aguero last week was insane. Aguero was the overwhelming favourite for captaincy. It well could have been but it just goes to show there's no certainty in football.

        Yeah, thinking the same.

Needs to be 4.9m or below, so I'm thinking it has to be one of Panty/Gazzinga/Myhill/Foster (do we know when Foster is due back? Myhill could be a decent short term filler if he's still a while out?)

Yeah good shout - he's a decent option too. They seem quite an attacking outfit though - you reckon they're capable of getting many cleanies? City don't have great fixtures, but they seemed to have tightened up at the back (3 cleanies in 4) - Panty could be great value.

However, if I go 4.3m or below then I can afford Snod -> Sess next week. Otherwise it'd be one of Brunt/Hernandez/De Guzman. Would that sway you to Gazzinga?

Im looking at Panty as well but I can just picture it becoming one of those hindsight moments of what was I thinking when he gets dropped for Hart again and we get stuck with no GK for a week and then need to use yet another FT to patch it up

Fairly sure that Davis is no.2 and Gazzinga is no.3, but Davis is carrying a small knock. I'd be very surprised if Panty got dropped after keeping 3 cleanies in 4. Two 3.9m GKs would be great for the bank, but a 4.9m City defender (regardless of fixtures) is swaying me at the moment.

    Boruc
    Johnson - Chico - Terry
    Ozil - Ramsey - Oscar - Whittingham
    Suarez (C) - Aguero - Benteke

    Davis - Gabbidon - Barkley - Rosenior

    1FT, 0.4M

Okay, current issues to worry about are:
Boruc injured, Davis injured, Oscar taken off injured (but said he's okay), Barkley and Rosenior dropped last time out, Benteke playing very poorly, and possible midweek rotation!

I've decided not to worry about someone like Ozil, Ramsey or Aguero being rotated, unless we get a clear signal, it's not a priority. Barkley and Rosenior can sit on the bench, hopefully I won't need them. Gabbidon is a decent first sub, playing at home to West Ham.

Plan is, unless we get news that suggests Oscar is unlikely to play, to do just do Boruc > Gazzaniga, bank the 0.9m and hopefully Gazz/Davis will see me over to the Jan WC. If Oscar's definitely out, I'll move him on for a hit, probably to Hazard.

    Sound good?

I think people can over estimate the impact of squad rotation, tends to happen less than feared. Admittedly your bench is a concern but GK to get 11 out has to be first priority

Have some thoughts in mind but would like to hear what others think. Could spend both FT or save 1. Thanks!

            Just get Rooney imo.

If and when the suspension comes, count on the bench. I didn't realize Rooney's fixture list was that good. He will be involved in most of United's goals.

    Hi Guys

Has there been any news on RVP? Will he start on Wednesday?

    Current team:

    Boruc / Myhill
    Coleman / Burner / Gabbidon / Dawson / A. Williams
    RavMo / Rambo / Cabaye / Oscar / Barkley
    Suarez / Aguero / RVP

    1FT and 0.9 ITB

    Thinking of doing:

    1, RVP > Roonpig
    2, Boruc > Panty
    3, Williams > Evans
    4, Save FT
    5, Something else?

    Which one looks best?

    Thanks

Agreed....But don't really want to waste a FT if he will start on Wednesday. I have more pressing issues to deal with i.e Williams and Boruc.

        Thanks for you opinion though

I'd actually say that with the form Rooney's in, it is the more pressing transfer, even if RVP is fit. Williams' next four fixtures aren't bad - Newcastle, Hull and Everton at home, and Norwich away, and playing Myhill doesn't look like it'll be too bad either. The upside is potentially much bigger - with the funds you make, you could significantly upgrade Barkley, for example.

Oscar should be okay, and your defence should be fine - the players missing won't be the ones you'd play this week, and both could well return to their first teams soon. I think that Ravel has a pretty good chance of starting too, though team sheets will be out before the deadline to confirm this.

I'd look at upgrading Townsend, though I'm not entirely sure who I'd recommend as a replacement. Cabaye, perhaps? I think you'll be okay playing Marshall, with Boruc on the bench for a few weeks - Cardiff have some decent fixtures coming up.

I just said Lukaku/Remy because right now with the form these guys are in your forwards should be 3 of Rooney/Suarez/Aguero/Lukaku/Remy. We can add benteke if he scores later, but the fact is he's not scored since gw4..
