I would probably take the hit a run with Lukaku and Gerrard for a few games. If Rooney is tearing it up and Lukaku not keeping up (I think they will be closer to equal though), then you can do some kind of switch later to get Rooney back. Often times, planning too far in advance doesn't work, as something comes up to destroy the plans. Someone gets injured, a falling out with the manager, etc. Of course, fixtures are always a major deciding point, in which case Lukaku's could hardly be more promising. I have a hunch he'll score against Arsenal.
