The ScoutCast – Episode 121 – Opportunity

A new year, a new opportunity. While the frantic festive spell saw me fail miserably in my attempt to take a bite out of Granville’s mini-league lead, January does at least hand me, and other stragglers, a chink of light. The Winter Wildcard could well be a false dawn, however. Having got my squad back on an even keel, the freedom to scrap it and start over is almost a scary prospect.

On the plus side, the situation certainly seems to have Granville spooked. My Mancunian rival is looking on his Wildcard with suspicion, leaving me hoping that, during his own January surgery, he makes one or two vital slips with the scalpel.

Around the Wildcard chatter, Granville and I deliberate over how to fill the Walcott-sized hole in our teams, whilst giving the regulars their usual airing. We even reveal plans on how you, yes you, the listener, can play a part in future ScoutCasts.

Please note: this show was recorded before Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko scored five goals against West Ham. Rest assured, I would have moaned further about the pairing’s miserable two points at Swansea had it been recorded following last night’s goal blitz.

Sweep with the new broom via this link or grasp the nettle of change via the handy player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Decided to WC:

    Mannone - Marshall
    Coleman - Kos - Burner - Ward - Chester
    Ozil - Hazard - Silva - Lallana - Eriksen
    Suarez - Lukaku - JRod

Will upgrade Lukaku > Aguero & downgrade Lallana > Livermore over next two weeks and Eriksen > Ramsey idc.

What ya reckon? Thanks in advance....

Thats a good team Jafooli. But the only problem with planning trannies in advance is some stupid injury will mess up your whole plan.

I'd be cautious about all those planned transfers as someone is bound to get injured or sent off. Why not just wait a week then WC and get Ramsey & Livermore, if Ramsey is back?

Yeah, I know what you mean. Every so often I get annoyed with looking at the same useless buggers and have a Stalinesque purge of the squad. It doesn't always work but I usually feel better afterwards...

very good team, especially midfield. Although maybe punt on Adebayor this week instead for lukaku and maybe clyne instead of burner. Problem is I'm guessing if you get adebayor in for lukaku your team value may drop a bit.
But a very nice team nonetheless.

Ok, I'm very tempted to WC to this:

    Mannone, Davis
    Baines, Kosc, Chester, Gabbi, Burner
    Ozil, Haz, SIlva, Gerrard
    Suarez, Lukaka, Jay R

Able to afford Lukaku-->Aguero next week with 0.0 ITB.

    Any thoughts/recommendations?

He's young and needs to play more in order to develop his skills. Won't have many chance with Blues' current midfield options. Having a great pre-season is normal for players in this situation, they want to showcase themselves and the manager wants them compete against the regulars.

Hull didn't keep them out, they still scored.

And Hull were full-strength for that game (form memory). Can't say the same for Stoke... they're only keeping CS against the dregs these days.

Right, now that i know for certain Bardsley is nailed on, WC team is now this, can't do much with the 4th mid due to funds, so settle for januzaj, opinions greatly appreciated.

    Mannone - K.Davis

    Bardsley - Coleman - Koscielny - Ward - Chester

    Januzaj - Ozil - Silva - Hazard - Pozuelo

    Adebayor - Suarez - Negredo

Money in the bank for obligatory switch from Negredo to Aguero.

Hey all recently joined. Hope you all are well, is there any chance I can get a RMT off you guys? Could use some advice.

    Guzan---(Gazzaniga)

    Clyne--Dawson--Coleman--(Terry, Johnson)
    Hazard--Silva--Navas--Sterling (Barkley)
    Suarez--Negredo--Lukaku

Terry on bench the right decision?

I have 1 FT + .02 in bank, I was thinking of saving transfer + replace Navas with Aresnal coverage next week, maybe weaken defence + try to get Ozil.

Any and all opinions welcome. Thanks.

          Think about it logically:

          - Been carrying a groin injury, went for a scan this past week and left with the disc.
          - Was not even on the bench against Sunderland meaning he wasn't fit enough to come on for a brief cameo if we really needed it.
          - Must-win Chelsea away next weekend.
          - Must-win Sunderland 2nd leg 3 days later.
          - If he plays tomorrow and is still injured we could lose him for a month or more which would be devastating..

Im not a big fan of any of the 3 tbh, punt on Kolorov would be exciting if you have decent 4th/5th rotation cover which you kind of do though Hull home fixtures are awful
Boruc has to be the best GK option listed. Ive not checked who he rotates with but I would probably play him most weeks even away unless playing the top 6. Soton defence will come good again.

Azpi for a bit longer term, but Nasty better next two fixtures..
Jedinak for 4.3m, one of 8 outfield players who have played every minute of the PL
either Marshall/Mannone or Boruc/Davis (unless you do really want rotating keeps which I'm not keen on)

not sold on JRod though..maybe downgrade Baines, do Boruc/Davis and put that money into JRod?

Yeah, the current team looks like this (active WC):

              Marshall (Mannone)
              Terry, Koscielny, Distin (Parr, Chester)
              Yaya, Hazard, Ozil, Silva (Mutch)
              Suarez, Adebayor, Rodriguez

              These transfers would effectively be:
Marshall, Distin, Parr, Yaya -> Davis, Coleman, Ward, Gerrard

if you get to choose, choose ade.
Rooney 50% to play at best. I just don't recommend taking rooney out for a hit

Using WC so not taking a hit. Already have Rooney in team, but tempted to go Ade for this GW.

dont keep rooney in your WC team, groin injury creates way too much uncertainty

    New West Brom coach.

Will Foster become a decent option under him? Only 4.7

i would have thought quite good value at that price. Not been following, is Foster back soon?
