The Weekend Team News

Olivier Giroud is back for Arsenal, though Aaron Ramsey fails to recover in time for the trip to Villa. Everton will assess three key defenders for Norwich’s visit, though Ross Barkley emerges as a doubt. Southampton could welcome back Artur Boruc for a home clash with West Brom. Liverpool’s Daniel Agger may be out for a month, Jonathan De Guzman and Dwight Tiendalli are sidelined for Swansea’s trip to United, whilst Norwich have mixed news on the injury front:

Arsene Wenger confirmed Aaron Ramsey is still sidelined for the trip to Villa, though Kieran Gibbs has “a little chance” of returning. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is available after a five-month spell on the sidelines – the winger played 45 minutes for the reserves last night and his manager admitted he “wouldn’t have any hesitation” of playing him against the midlands outfit. Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil are back in training and available, though Thomas Vermaelen is likely to miss out after coming off against Spurs last weekend with a knee problem.

Roberto Martinez will check over the fitness of a quartet of players ahead of the visit of Norwich. Ross Barkley is a doubt after picking up a toe problem in the FA cup win over QPR. In defence, Leighton Baines was missing against QPR due to a back spasm but Martinez expects the left-back to recover, whilst Sylvain Distin and Phil Jagielka “are close to making Saturday, but also on the verge of missing” after recent hamstring problems.

Southampton have been boosted by the possible return of Artur Boruc after a hand injury for the visit of West Brom. In his pre-match press conference, Mauricio Pochettino would only say the Polish stopper “may or may not play” this weekend. The Saints boss also revealed that Rickie Lambert and Gaston Ramirez are “recovering well” and will be assessed going into the clash against West Brom, after the pair were forced off in the cup last weekend.

Michael Laudrup will be without the services of Jonathan de Guzman (calf) and Dwight Tiendalli (hamstring) for Swansea’s trip to Old Trafford. Pablo Hernandez and Roland Lamah are also “two to three weeks” away from a return for the Welsh outfit.

Norwich boss Chris Hughton has confirmed Seb Bassong, Wes Hoolahan and Bradley Johnson are all fit for the encounter with Everton, after the trio missed the FA Cup tie with Fulham last weekend, Meanwhile, Michael Turner and Jonny Howson remain out with hamstring and back injuries respectively. Hughton also revealed Anthony Pilkington and Alex Tettey have returned to light training, and could be pushing for a recall ahead of Hull’s visit to Carrow Road later this month.

Liverpool have suffered a fresh blow in defence with Daniel Agger reportedly out for four weeks with a calf strain. The Danish international limped off in the closing stages of the FA Cup win over Oldham and has since revealed the extent of his injury to the Danish press.

Hull defender Paul McShane is sidelined for three to four weeks with an ankle injury. Sone Aluko (Achilles) and Robbie Brady (groin) are on course for a return at the end of January or early February.

Reports suggest Robin van Persie has returned to training for United but is expected to miss out again this weekend. We await David Moyes’ press conference at 2pm for an official update, however.

The Newcastle press suggest Yohan Cabaye has returned to the club’s training base and will be assessed today as he attempts to overcome an Achilles injury.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

If you're captaining Ade you might think of playing Yaya over Eriksen in case they dont get the result you are expecting. Spreads the risk a bit. Nice team btw.

Cheers PODGE but I think Spurs need to prove a point that they are still in for a top 4 chance so I expect quite a lot shots on goal and ADE is the highest shots on goal p/minute so worth a cheeky punt but not doubt if the above isn't factual I'll hear about it.
Plus, Yaya may well come in before the deadline.

Until Vertonghen comes back, yes. When Vertonghen comes back it's between Dawson and Chiriches.

AVB would have chosen Chiriches (the better player) but I have a feeling Sherwood will choose old school field-plodder Dawson.

Very similar to mine. I like going big at the back, it's a good idea in the second half of the season as big teams have been shown to tighten up after Christmas.

Oscar over Hazard is a concern but if it helps you afford everything else, maybe it's worth it.

Find someone better value than Barkley. Fantastic real life player but look at his FPL returns and ask yourself if he's worth the price? Januzaj could be the guy.

Biggest concern is Mannone. Sunderland will definitely bring in a new keeper; could be backup for Mannone or could be the new first choice. I've been spooked by that and I'm going to play safe with Boruc/Davis and I'll re-evaluate after the window closes.

Not sure about Villa defence. City score enough goals to justify the selection I think. Can't see Silva or Yaya being rotated much, will have to see how Aguero is after he comes back, seems he was rotated/rested a lot more under Mancini.

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AiIgkb7euD-9dDVQdGhQNGhyd3RjMzROY0k5UmJielE&usp=drive_web#gid=1

Still a work in progress (currently Berbacat is working on updating the Defensive fixture ratings based on this season's data to date, after which we'll color code the 2 way rotations and then i'll add 3 way rotations) but this should be a good resource for people when they wild card and for everyone over the course of the season.

Tabs on the spreadsheet include fixtures and useful info (which International, Capital One Cup, FA Cup, Europa League, and Champions League fixtures/dates) 2 way rotations, and an index to help find teams on the rotations tabs

if you have anything else you'd like to see added, let us know and we'll do our best to work on that.
also if you have any other 2 way rotations you'd like to see, let me know and i'll add them to the spreadsheet

Does captaining Lukaku over Suarez make sense if you are chasing a deficit? Liverpool always struggle at Stoke, Stoke have only conceded 7 in 10 home games and Norwich aren't the best away from home. All points to not much downside but lots of upside.

It makes sense but very risky. Lukaku having a good fixture hasn't really caused him to get more points so far

Would you keep Negredo or Lukaku until Aguero returns? (other forwards are Jrod and Suarez)

Given Aguero is probably back next week I'd say Lukaku, not least because he I think offers a genuine captain alternative this week to Suarez. If Aguero is 2 weeks away I think it's probably a coin toss.

Lukaku Or Sturridge? - Probably only until Aguero returns and I'm happy to bench Studge this week.
I'm also not sure if Shaw is worth the extra over Clyne?

    WC team:
    Szecsney (Mannone)

    Coleman - Koscielny - Bardsley - Ward - Shaw

    Hazard - Ozil - Silva - Lallana - Mutch

    Suarez - Adebayor - __9.5?__

There are doubts over whether Studge will start this week. I also think long term he's a risk. There will be games when Rodgers wants 3 in midfield which means either Studge on the right where he'll be less effective, or on the bench.

Morning chaps, now with the imminent return of ramsey, I think holding onto the wc is the right thing to do. Looking out ideas, which do u prefer out of these options?

    A.
    Mannone, boruc
    Kosc, Coleman, Clyne, ward, chester
    Yaya, silva, Ozil, hazard, jacuzzi
    Suarez, jrod, aguero (if fit)

    B.
    Mannone, boruc
    Kosc, Coleman, Clyne, ward, Chester,
    Yaya, ramsey, Ozil, hazard, eriksen
    Suarez, jrod, aguero

Option b gives me a benching dilemma each month!
