Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Semi Final Draw

We’re down to the last four managers in the Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII, sponsored by Paddy Power. Ahead of the next round of matches – which takes place in Gameweek 23, over next Tuesday and Wednesday’s matches – we take a look at the quartet who still harbour hopes of taking home the silverware.

Cunny Funts remains the favourite as we had into the final straight. Ranked at 688 overall, he saw off the challenge of YestheSess! in the quarter-finals and was the highest scoring manager to progress, with 71 points accrued in Gameweek 22. He’s up against Tdubb05 (36,120th overall), who racked up a 62-55 win over sim716 to make his way into the final four.

The pair have just five identical players – Seamus Coleman, Eden Hazard, Yaya Toure, Emmanuel Adebayor and Luis Suarez and both have made two transfers so far this week. Only Cunny Funts still has his wildcard left to play, though.

The other tie sees Ajax, with a rank of 23,489 overall, up against Tal, who currently sits in 57,457 in the rankings. Ajax is in the better form of the two – he outscored ec3dm by 60 points to 52 points to progress, whilst Tal booked him place in the semi-finals with a narrow 47-45 win over 11 Men in Flight.

Both managers have already played their wildcards, though intriguingly have just three of the same players – Suarez, Hazard and Adnan Januzaj – suggesting this one looks wide open.

As mentioned previously, it’s not just bragging rights on offer here – the top three will be rewarded for their exploits.

Winner – £100 worth of free bets. £100 Amazon Voucher

3rd Place – £50 worth of free bets. £25 Amazon Voucher

    Who to bench?

    Hazard, Ozil, Cabaye, Lallana, Januzaj

Lallana looks obvious as he is facing Arsenal. But Mata might ruin Januzaj's chances of starting...

On a WC and finally close to sorting out my GK combo, its going to be either
    - Marshall + Vorm or
    - Marshall + Mannone...depending on budget constaints

    Nothing else stands out.

Looking at defenders, i am thinking def arsenal as i have mert for a while but what about the remaining 4?
    A: kolorav/azpi + 1 def from a rotation of three cheapies
B: kolorav/azpi + evans + 2 rotating cheapies who come in if kolorav doesnt start
    C: evans + vlaar + williams + cheapie

thanks sidd, was leaning towards B...the kolorav punt is too good to give up.

So plan is mert + kolorav + 2 cheapies...the final def will be either a cheapie or mid price depending on how much budget i have left

For defence, I decided that I want the option to play 4 at the back when the fixtures allow.
      Coleman Koscielny Azpilicueta Kolarov Ward
Inevitably, it will mean some cs points on the bench, but I like having the flexibility to deal with injuries or blank gws. The only worry that i have is that Kolarov may come in for a cameo whenever he doesn't start.
In your case, I'd pick B, and be sure that the rotating cheapest rotate well enough to play one each week if need be.

    Hello Good morning

    On WC

    Boruc/pickford

    Terry/Coleman/Evans/Ward/Bruce

    Hazard/Cabaye/AJ/Cazorla/Noone

    Suarez/Aguero/Rodriguez

ITB: 2.1 , Team looks more then settled and unsure what to do further , Coleman to Baines possibly. Any suggestions welcome , Thanks in advance.

Thanks, I will have a think on this one. Going with A would mean benching Eriksen at home to city or Cabaye away to Norwich gw23. Cabaye or AJ in their derby gw24 or Eriksen away to Hull. And benching Cabaye gw25 away to Chelsea, which is perfectly fine. But downgrading one of Eriksen/AJ/Cabaye after gw25 would allow me to upgrade one of them to Mata if need be and gives him a few weeks to settle.

Afternoon all. Having a bit of a wild card tinker and driving myself batty with it. Just a simple A or B question:

    A) Aleksandar Kolorov and Santiago Cazorla

    B) Laurent Koscielny and David Silva

Silva is one of my favourite players in the league and a regular if unspectacular scorer for this game. If he's fit I'll usually have him. But these endless knocks and niggles are starting to wear a bit thin......

Tricky - I'm not 100% convinced Carzola will maintain his new found returns, particularly once Ramsey is back, and whilst I've gone with Kolorov you do need a decent back up defender in case he doesn't play. KOssc is a good pick, but I share your concerns about Silva. My answer is basically neither A or B, but think around. If you're only wanting a choice between A or B though B shades it for me.

Cheers guys, thanks for the replies. Santi seems to have awoken from his slumber and his stats are great, as are Puncheon and Cabaye's. I'd probably do Santi > Ramsey somewhere down the line when Aaron J. has played a little.

The mids are definitely the biggest headache at the moment. I like it, but wonder whether Yaya instead of Navas and Carzola to one of the plethora of 7ish mids would be better. You can then just swap out the 7ish for whoever doesn't perform to expectations 🙂

    Mannone (Boruc)

    Azpi, Kolarov, Ward, Mertes

    Suarez, Aguero, Sturridge

Benching (in order): Eriksen, Ki, Colman

Woah, that's a very good team. You could easily play all of those and come away with a great score. Stoke have very poor defensive stats and have conceded the largest number of big chances over the last five games of any team in the league. I think I'd be tempted to squeeze Ki in there somehow but who to leave out is a difficult one...

He should have known this would happen. I remember reading an article on the daily mail, the day after the transfer. They listed all the previous strikers under Abramovich and where they ended up. Most of them were bought for the short term and then released or sold for next to nothing

If I were a professional player, the money would obviously tempt me, but I would never join clubs like city, chelsea or r. madrid. Where they are known to want a bench as powerful as the first XI and have to potentially sit on the bench for the rest of my career.

Rooney up top, Januzaj behind, Mata on the right, Reus on the left.

Throw in a scent new defender and we are onto something special.

Assuming that the Mata deal goes ahead with no last minute fck ups, and assuming that Mata regains his previous form.. Would including him together with Rooney in my team be useless ?

I can sort of fit them both in but is it worth it ? Rooney is practically a midfielder, so I would be doubling up in one area. I just dont know who could replace him in my elite front 3 with suarez and aguero :/

I wouldn't do it so early. Especially when we haven't seen them together, and a blank coming up soon. One of Mata/Rooney sounds well.

    Doos,

Reid close to coming back? I was planning a SUN/CPL/WHU rotation on my WC.
