The Community Round Up

Another set of double Gameweek fixtures dropped into the schedule this week to further befuddle the Fantasy Football Scout community, with Newcastle, Arsenal, Swansea and Everton joining the Gameweek 31 party. We look back at the raft of hot topics this fixture change provoked, take a walk of shame by admitting our season faux pas and find time to meander down memory lane to revisit our favourite and most notorious World Cup moments. We also drop in on all the latest standings and ties in the community’s tournaments.

The Hottest Topics

While we’re all pre-occupied with bringing in new recruits for Gameweek 31, it also presents some tough choices regarding benching form players with just a single fixture. Irish Madrista asked whether Eden Hazard owners plan to oust the electrifying midfielder in favour of a double Gameweek player. Meanwhile, Rosola went one step further and asked which non-double gameweek players the community will be ditching. John Terry, Eden Hazard and Southampton keeper Artur Boruc are among those mentioned as “untouchables”.

Sergio Aguero has already being discussed as a key Gameweek 31 pick for many, although Innsie wonders if there are perhaps other options. His post comparing Aguero and Newcastle striker Loic Remy proved interesting and surprising reading. It’s a subject that surfaced again this evening, with Nate dropping in with another Sunday evening hot topic, talking up Romelu Lukaku’s claims for inclusion in our plans.

When it comes to midfield options, we find both West Ham’s Kevin Nolan and Sunderland’s Adam Johnson firmly on many a watchlist. The pair of mid-price contenders are vying for community’s affections and came under the microscope of Evilfuk this week, who looked closely at points per game as well as home and away statistics.

Elsewhere, Wednesday’s international friendlies gave the community a chance to reminisce about World Cups of yesteryear. Demel asked which was our favourite World Cup, with Colonel Wasabi nominating the 1978 Argentina tournament – his first chance to get his mits on a World Cup sticker album. Meanwhile, Rayne Wooney asked for opinion on the dirtiest World Cup team, with the Chile squad of the 1962 the stand out selection for Portsmouth Bubbeljet.

Earlier in the week, Giggs Boson invited some community purging as he quizzed us on our most shameful decision this season. Parmtree was among those in confessional mood, openly admitting to his Nani purchase and finding back-up from Granville. Mark also chirped up with another mention of his failure to adopt Aaron Ramsey. He’s still losing sleep over that.

Finally, if you’re dabbling with your Ultimate Fantasy Premier League Wildcard right now, be sure to check out Archie’s superb analysis of the weekend fixture breakdowns. Brilliant stuff.

The Community Tournaments

With a score of 67, Irina’ss emerged as the winner of Gameweek 28’s Scout Picks Challenge, which is loosely based on our very own Scout Picks and has been created by @ocprodigy. The picks themselves finished a credible fourth with 64 points this week.

In TorresMagic‘s Leagues, Intranisigent topped Last Man Standing where 20 managers got eliminated leaving 95 to move on. Sara Oxyzoglu scored best in Millionaire Club, where only 9 managers survived as 44 went broke. In addition, his FPL Open first round draw is available here.

ENR, Bootsy, Jonty, Billy Ketsu, Jambo17 and Koneheads were the league leaders going into the Gameweek 29 in In Tommy We Trust’s All Things competitions.

Ahead of Gameweek 29, Gaz Downright continued to tighten his grip on first place in the Fantasy Football Scout’s Moderators and Contributors.

The Iron Man competition, for those taking part in multiple games, saw no changes in the top spots with Gigging Order and In Like Flynn continuing in first place in the competition’s Sky and Metro leagues respectively and Jonty retaining the FPL lead.

Relying a lot on Everton (which may well work out very well).

      Will Gnabry get minutes?

      Demel possibly starting over Chester?

I expect Everton to do well, if not in this dgw the next.
Gnabry won't get any minutes, not bothered about him.
Demel or Chester is a huge dilemma for me, WestHam have Utd but are strong at home. Hull have the better fixtures. Would upi play Demel?

I'd fancy West Ham to keep a clean sheet against Hull and have a chance of one against United too.

I think Hull have a chance of a clean sheet against West Brom but no chance against West Ham away.

I'd play Demel, but its very close to call.

What's the best move for this week:

    (A) JRod and Cahill to Lukaku and Collins/Bardsley (for free)
    (B) Lallana to Nolan
    (C) Mata to Nolan
    (D) Mata to Gerrard

Only (B) and (C) would allow me to get Aguero.

I think he will play a part still, but he will have to share minutes and BR might want a stronger ball-winning midfield diamond of Gerrard Lucas/Allen Henderson with Coutinho as the no 10 in the more difficult games. The flipside of that of course is that the minutes Sterling will get are likely to be against weaker sides.

        When is Lucas expected back?

The thing is, Sissoko has nothing to play for and might not even have a manager for some games, and Januzaj may as well not have a manager at the moment, I think United are already just looking towards next season, plus doubt Januzaj will get many minutes with a close to full strength squad.

        Sissoko - see above comment

Rosicky - decent punt but probably won't outscore Sterling with the horrible fixtures that Arsenal have but one to keep an eye on when Arsenal's fixtures ease up towards the end of the season.

Huddlestone - more minutes, less goals/points imo.

Okay. I'm 500 in the overall rankings, so don't want any big risks.

    Squad:

    Boruc Mannone

    Cahil. Ivan. Evra. (Bennett.Whittaker)

    Sterling Lallana Hazard Yaya Nolan

    Suárez kun Sturridge

0FT, so transfers will cost me a hit unless I wait a week:

    Drop a Chelsea defender?

Ivan would get me 6.4, Cahil 6.0. I have .3 in the bank. So I'm looking at a 6.3 or 6.7 budget dependant on who I lose.

    Questions:

    Drop:

    1. Cahil
    2. Ivan.

    Bring in:

    A. Everton (coleman?)
    B. City (zaba / kompany / Demi?)
    C. Other (Smalling?!)

    Any thoughts appreciated!

    Thanks!

    J.

    Alright guys, current team.

    Boruc
    Burner - Demel - Kos - Azpil - Bruce
    Mirallas - Snod - Ince - Mata - Hazard
    Lambert - Suarez - Sturridge.

Planned transfers for this week are - Snod + Kos > Distin + Toure.

That seem ok? or there should be more pressing transfers?

Gw 32 as said below or the next Dgw maybe. Even if it got to gw38 you'd make more points than the extra you'd make in gw31. If that makes sense.

looks like everton, sunderland (x2), palace, west brom, city (x2), and villa still have dgws to come.

thing is I'm not sure how many palace, villa, or west brom players I'd even want. and I'll already be getting City players for this dgw and will either get sunderland (mannone and AJ) for this one or plan to swap to them shortly after (adrian and nolan out for them)

Well, if you do Ade> Lukaku you've got a great team for this week. I'd probably do that, see how City go against Barca and Hull then decide next week. With a bit of luck we might get some dates for all the other outstanding games that need to be finalised so you could decide sometime next week. Good luck, I wish I had I wild card left!

or should I do say mata + ade > aguero + sissoko (-4)?

I don't know, I really don't know. If I had a wild card I'd be tempted to hold off as long as I could. You could do Mata and Ade > Sissoko and Aguero for and hit and easily get the points back plus a whole lot more. Arsenal, United and Chelsea have great fixtures in the last few games so maybe saving the wc until gw32 would be canny.

I'm swallowing my pride and cutting my losses with Silva. Everything has pointed to Silva outscoring Yaya and yet it just hasn't happened.

I fully expect to get nothing from Yaya now that I have him, but at least no-one else will either. And on the off-chance that he scores again, it won't be an automatic red arrow for me.

Morning everyone. My Man city free tream of DGW players for GW 31. Sterling would probably be coming in next week uness I can think of something better

    Mannone
    Coleman - Smalling - Evra
    Sterling - Mata - Johnson - Nolan
    Sturridge - Suarez - Lukaku

Bit of risk going without any Man City but everyone has 2 games and I will be taking no hits next week. (Although there is one this week). I guess the other option would be not having 11 DGW players playing Hazard instead of buying Sterling and swapping Mata to Yaya
