Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 36 – Monday

Mesut Ozil serves up his second-highest Fantasy haul of the season, with a goal, assist and maximum bonus points as Arsenal sweep aside sorry Newcastle. Olivier Giroud also finds the net and provides an assist, whilst Laurent Koscielny delivers a double-figure return by firing the opener as the Gunners pick up their fifteenth shut-out of the campaign:

Ozil Turns on the Style
We’d highlighted the German as one to keep an eye on in last week’s Mission and he turned in his most impressive Fantasy showing since Gameweek 8 with a goal, assist and maximum bonus points in last night’s easy win. Whilst Aaron Ramsey’s bandwagon persuaded over 334,000 Fantasy managers to draft in the Welshman prior to the weekend deadline, Ozil was picked up by just 9,000 and vindicated his new owners’ decision with a 14-point haul against the hapless Magpies.

Arsene Wenger’s team are now four points clear of Everton with just a home game against West Brom and Norwich remaining, and despite the lack of a double, their chief assets could be set to deliver the points over that final pair of fixtures, with the Gunners scoring three times in each of their previous trio of matches. Looking ahead to next term, Ramsey’s presence in the first XI is clearly beneficial to the German – he has delivered 112 points in 17 appearances alongside the Welshman (an average of 6.6 points per game) compared to 19 points in seven matches (2.7 ppg) without Ramsey.

Koscielny a Key Differential
Owned by only 7% of Fantasy managers after a recent stint on the sidelines with a calf complaint, the French racked up the points with another commanding display. The 3-0 win saw Arsenal serve up a fifteenth clean sheet of the campaign, and with a goal and couple of bonus points also accrued, the 5.5-priced Koscielny produced a double-figure haul for only the second time this term. Koscielny has now equalled the 25%-owned Per Mertesacker’s two goals and has outscored his fellow centre-half by 23 bonus points to 21 – an average of 4.7 ppg against the German’s 4.4 ppg highlights his worth as a differential route into the Gunners defence.

Giroud Still Ticking Over
The much-maligned frontman was back in the points with a goal and assist as Arsenal condemned Alan Pardew’s side to a sixth straight loss. In a similar situation to the Ozil-Ramsey transfers in last week, Giroud was mainly overlooked as many Fantasy managers loaded up on Lukas Podolski but the Frenchman found the net for the third time in his last four home appearances to move into fourth spot in the Fantasy Premier League forwards standings – for all his frustrating flaws, only Luis Suarez, Wayne Rooney and Daniel Sturridge have earned more points. With City and United set for doubles, it’s fair to say that few will be looking to draft in Giroud in spite of his kind remaining fixtures, though some of his 21% owners may well decide to hold after last night’s haul.

True. If Chelsea win then will stay clear of their players as could see rotation, especially in final game of season.

Shameless repost - thoughts please guys...

Took the plunge last night and went Coleman + Miralles + Suarez --> Demi + Mata + Aguero for a -12 leaving me with the following team:

    MANNONE
    VLAAR DEMI Cahill
    MATA YAYA Eriksen Ramsey
    ROONEY AGUERO Lukaku
    Marshall CHESTER Dann Ki

30 points ahead in one ML and 10 behind in another.
Will bring Suarez back for GW38. Thoughts?

Chester owners or any owners of Hull defenders, are you guys starting them in the DGW? I'm not confident with starting Chester. Will be leaving him on the bench despite the DGW.

Azpilicueta - Zabaleta - Chester (Coleman and Ward on the bench)

Looking to take a hit and bring out Coleman for Evra/Jones and fill that instead.

Yeah, that's what I have in mind at the mo. Assuming if I'm not taking any hits, I would gamble on a clean sheet for Azpilicueta rather than taking a 4 points off a Hull defender, or possibly only 2. In DGW34, Azpilicueta hit me with a solid 6 points in one game higher than Zabaleta who had Sunderland midweek.

In the semi final of my Draft league. This is my team of 16. Decent enough?....

    Mannone
    Azpilicueta/Vidic/Baines
    Ozil/Eriksen/Januzaj/Amalfitano
    Suarez/Bony/Jovetic

    Not used: Evans/Puncheon/Ki/Carroll/Delaney

    A) Am I picking the right starting XI?
    B) Thinking of dropping Ki for Alonso or a mid instead of Januzaj depending on who is available (no Manchester based player I'm afraid). Which would be the best option?

Alonso then do you reckon? He seems to be the choice du jour from what's available to me. It's either him, Giaccherini, Lampard or the pick of Villa's midfield really.

Ya know why England will never be any good in International tournaments? Because of the animosity shown to players from different clubs by fans and players alike. I've never seen anything like it. I don't think I've ever wished bad on any Irish player regardless of club. Even when O'Shea scored the winner against us. But the abuse that English fans throw at their own is unreal.

Tends to be some of that certainly, I think as Irishmen we're a bit removed from how deeply hatred between different clubs can run. But I've seen my fair share of absolute hatred towards the likes of Lamps, Stevie G, Roo, Cole etc. To think, I'm doing a little jump for joy every time Hoolahan gets on the pitch, world of a difference.

The way I see it, look at GAA. I f**king hate some of the Northern players, with a passion, so I think you'd see it over here more with GAA and Hurling than with football. Only difference is we don't really have international tournaments in GAA.

Nowhere near the level because it's not as big in some regards. But I've heard my share of death threats etc. when at Croke park.

Prem players are much more in the public eye and they're removed from being regular guys because of their wages so it does create a more vicious form of hatred.

True, you'd have hurlers taking swipes at each other off the ball, batter each other over the head with the hurl, try to kill each other, and then walk off the pitch together shaking hands, mental stuff.

Must be the fact that there's money in football that makes it more vicious!

Yeah it's a different problem in some regards, I think there definitely needs to be a clamping down on some of the off the ball stuff which they're trying to do. I'd be good mates with a few Dublin lads (in fact my brother is a Dublin keeper) and you should actually see the injuries after the game.

I'll never forget, a few years ago, Shane Ryan had a great performance against Tyrone or Donegal, looked like there was nothing wrong with him at all. After the match he was on cructhes, both ankles pouring blood and swollen from where the other lads had stood on his ankles all day.

Money changes things too because now these people are very firmly in the public eye and all of their personal lives are there too. The media are out to get people like this, it sells publications and keeps them employed.

      Think you could also cite:

      1) the one dimensional tactics
      2) lack of ability to keep possession
      3) inability to give players a real chance other than a 20 minute cameo
      4) lack of a settled team
      5) reliance on physicality rather than skill
      6) playing players out of position because they are "that good"
      7) lack of preparation (eg German leagues use same ball as World Cup to get players used to it, we don't because of sponsorship deals).

      I could go on.
