Site Features

In Development – The Community Submissions Section

Next week we’re looking to launch a new feature on Fantasy Football Scout, aimed at further increasing community interaction and adding a new dimension to the site’s content.

The new Submissions section will allow any registered user to post us an article for review, which can then be published in the Submissions section, or even promoted to the homepage listing.

In many ways, this is an extension of the Hot Topics feature in our HomeCrowd comments system. Since we introduced HomeCrowd, we’ve seen many posters supply some quality content, which has been of great interest to our readers. While we’ve been able to highlight these posts via the Hot Topics, we felt we needed another level to recognise some of the great content that can be produced by the community.

How the Submissions section develops is very much up to you to decide, as it will be your content that shapes it. You can send us articles on any subject surrounding Fantasy Football – player scout reports, tactical analysis, statistical breakdowns (members or non-members related), features on a particular topic or dilemma and, of course, information on any community tournaments you’re running, provided they’re free to enter. Our recent Drop the Flop article – as devised and written by Swanny14 – is an example of our willingness to take on, develop and promote new editorial ideas, so if you have any suggestions for future content, feel free to get involved.

Transfer news is another great source of content and we are particularly interested in hearing from fans of a Premier League club to provide expert analysis and match reports. Ultimately, our hopes are to have a community expert on board for each team in the top-flight in any given season – this could be your chance to be the community’s eyes and ears on the latest goings-on at your club.

There will also be a sideboard widget listing articles published and we will flag up the published submissions in our weekly community round-up as well as in our social media channels. As mentioned, we may even promote some articles to our homepage listing.

In the past we’ve always looked to recruit new writers from the community and both Paul and Jonty – staff members at Fantasy Football Scout – arrived via that route. We’d like to think that there are more new writers out there who will spring from the submissions section and evolve into contributors to help take the site forward in the coming years.

With the close season and the World Cup looming, this is a great opportunity to try out this new section and evolve and improve it as we go. If any of you fancy yourself as experts on a particular World Cup nation, have a list of players to watch or simply want to review your Fantasy season or focus on targets for the next, then keep your powder dry and look out for the launch of the Submissions section next week.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If I picked Rooney as captain and Yaya as vice captain the only decision is who my new vice is.

Regarding your post on the last page:

If he doesn`t play in any games, bookies wont pay out no.

However, if he just makes a small appearance they will pay out.

I`m sure there are lots of great bets out there right now. I was looking at Gareth Barry to be picked in the World Cup Squad. 8/1 worth a bet?

Nice. So if he meets his unfortunate early on in the first game, then they will pay out?

I reckon there's a great chance of Barry being picked. The injuries seem to be racking up too.

What did Charlton ever do in management except win the 2nd division with Boro and get us to 1 Euros and 2 World Cups with a team that would have gone further had he not been so conservative?

Hard to say. The difference between league and international management is that as an international manager you only have what you have. You can't sign anybody, all you can do is inspire those that you have to play above and beyond themselves, hopefully(although Charlton made a good job of bending the rules) did Charlton do that ?..dunno but he did ok with a small pool of players. Clough made some fantastic teams through some great management with Forest..but is that the same as managing a set pool of players..?

Between 88 and 90 Charlton had Bonner, McGrath, Hughton, Moran,Sheridan, Quinn, Stapleton, Aldridge, Houghton, Galvin and Whelan, all playing in the top level of English football. Arguably as good a set of players as England had then. They beat them in 88 and drew with them in 90. The same England team were a penalty shootout away from the final playing great ball.

McGrath was a top class centre back but Charlton played him in midfield to give us an even more defensive style. ?????

He ran Liam Brady, one of the best midfielders in Europe out of the squad before Euro 88 because Brady didn't like his defensive system.

He shunned Dave O'Leary, arguably one of the best centre backs to play in England before 1990.

Fair play to Charlton, he got us to tournaments when no-one before that could. In 1990 we scored just 2 goals in Italy. A TV journalist said he was ashamed to be Irish as we didn't even score against Egypt. We got to the Q/F without winning a game in 90 mins. Charlton never improved the style of play, preferring to stay conservative.

True it's hard to say how well Clough would have done with the limitations of an international team but my bet is he would have done well with England, he took no sh*t and liked to play attacking football.

Charlton is still a legend in Ireland but infamously known as the man who pays for his drink and food by cheque which the publicans display in their bar and never cash 🙂

Good post...I'm not saying you're wrong Greenred..what I said was maybe. Both managers would have been a much better choice than the safe pair of hands(?) that the FA always like as England managers.

As for Robson and England in 1990 the English public look on that with rose tinted glasses. The truth is England were pants in 1990 right up to that semi final. We had a WC route to die for with relatively easy opposition and we damned near made a right old balls up of it. As I recall far more fans wanted rid of Robson up until that semi than ever applauded him..not that anybody remembers that anymore.

But ye also had Gazza. Paul Gascoigne, what a player. I had an arguement in a pub one night with an elederly Man Utd supporter who thought Roy Keane was God. He swore Keane had the skill to score that goal that Gazza scored against Scotland. A lot of us love Roy Keane here but skills wise he wouldn't even have scored that goal in his wildest dreams.

David Platt was class in '90 too. A great World Cup 🙂

The Egypt one is a bit misleading though. We didnt score against Egypt becasue we didnt need to. A 0-0 draw would send both teams through and thats exactly how both teams played. An abysmal match.

I think you're talking about the Holland game there badger, that was their 3rd group game, Egypt was the second. We did an in-game deal with Holland to keep the score at 1-1 so both teams could progress. It was a farcical system then.

Allright, so I captained Rooney last week, taking the ML gap from 39 to 24p. The leader has now bought him, so I'm blocked. If tomorrow brings bad news (for Roo), would this be highly insane?

Mirallas, Rooney -> Amalfitano, RVP (-8)
      Erikson to be benched.
Not sure I'll captain RVP if I get him.

The owners/management of the clubs and league are useless. Serie A would never have gone downhill like it has if there were competent people running things and keeping it financially competitive with the other major leagues.

exactly. that juve team in 06 was amazing.

nedved, del piero, ibra, thuram, camero, trezeguet, zambrotta, gigi

intermerda messed up the league to get a couple trophies

doesn't help when majority of stadiums are 100 years old

The Milan team at that time was brilliant as well. Those title races between us in 2005 and 2006 were very close, merda were absolutely miles behind then got the title handed to them.

I can't see why people are saying Jose is going to get sacked. Surely it's a case if you don't know what your missing till it's gone regarding Ambromovich regretting letting him go last time. Chelsea were always a centre forward away from the league this season & next season they will be serious contenders.

I'm not saying he should be sacked, but he never should have been sacked the first time, same with Di Matteo and Ancelotti.

Roman would have known Jose's style and after years of trying to get the dream manager that returns style, goals and trophies he has apparently failed? So returned to tried and trusted Jose - who has came very close yet will miss out this year, possibly due the eggs in the Rooney basket?

Jose has indicated all season he would come up short but has promised soooo much for next season. so it'll be interesting to see of Roman shares in this vision?

With a top striker and possibly an attacking CAM the squad would be so much better?

He probably will get another year to prove his worth with a new striker and AM, that would be fair. The United situation does complicate matters however and a mutual termination of his contract (perhaps made to appear as a sacking to save face) is a possibility. I think United have a choice here, do they want Mourinho?

Certainly strange as to the speculation that they have a "deal" in principle with the dutchman yet rumoured to want to discuss with another.

After Moyes negativity will they want Jose? That said - his record is superb so i would have thought that any Club would want him. I just dont think Roman want rid of him - yet.

I don't believe JM is trying to get sacked but it would explain how the most talented team in the league is looking at a 3 rd place finish after bottling games against the likes of Sunderland, AV, & CP.

Interesting stuff, especially the 2nd article. In saying that, Mourinho's style of play is not 'the United way for a start'. I can see the deal for Van Gaal wrapped up soon before the Dutch training camp but uniteds halt in a decision shows they preferred ancelotti. In addition, they are probably buying giggs time to impress on the field too before appointing.

Others have argued that Van Gaal isn't the right fit for United either. In all likelihood Van Gaal will be named as United manager soon.

This Rooney situation may result in him not playing v Sunderland but still play midweek and unless the presser says otherwise defo not worth dropping.

Ryan Giggs wants to rotate and this injury / illness gives him the opportunity, whilst doing a favour for a few old mates - Brown, Oshea, Bardsley.

Just cant leave the armband on Shrek now!

I won't feel so bad about the early transfer if at the very least he plays the second game in the DGW. Hopefully we will find out more from the press conference.
