The Weekend Team News

Wayne Rooney is a doubt for United due to illness and a groin problem. Phil Jagielka is likely to return for Everton’s clash with Man City, though Sylvain Distin is doubtful. Felix Magath has concerns over Steve Sidwell ahead of the crunch clash with Stoke. Newcastle’s Luuk de Jong is available for selection ahead of the Cardiff encounter. Leandro Bacuna returns for Aston Villa, though Joe Bennett remains a doubt. Arsenal rule out an injured trio for the visit of West Brom, whilst Bacary Sagna is a worry due to a knee problem:

Wayne Rooney will be assessed over the next 24 hours as he struggles to overcome a bug and a tight groin problem. Ryan Giggs has revealed “a few of the lads have had a bug”, and is undecided on Robin Van Persie, going on to say “Whether tomorrow is too early we’ll just see how he goes today”.

Roberto Martinez has revealed that Sylvain Distin has returned to training, with a late decision set to be made on the Frenchman’s availability against Man City. Phil Jagielka is in contention to feature, with Martinez “quite confident” the skipper will be in the squad, whilst the Toffees boss has allayed injury fears for Leighton Baines, stressing that the left-back will be fine to feature at the weekend. Steven Pienaar remains sidelined, though Martinez is hopeful the South African will make a return before the end of the season.

Steve Sidwell is Felix Magath’s main injury concern ahead of the crucial meeting with Stoke at the weekend, after the midfielder came off against Hull with a knock last week. Magath has no other injury worries, and could welcome back Kostas Mitroglou to the squad, after confirming the striker had trained all week.

Newcastle will welcome back loan-signing Luuk de Jong into the squad to face Cardiff this weekend, with the forward having recovered from an ankle injury. Meanwhile, Alan Pardew revealed that Hatem Ben Arfa was not involved in training with the main group, casting doubt over the attacker’s game time as the season draws to a close.

Leandro Bacuna has recovered from the virus that forced him off at half-time against Swansea last week, and is available for selection ahead of Villa’s clash with Hull. Joe Bennett though, remains a doubt with an ankle injury.

Arsenal are expected to have the same squad from the win over Newcastle when they take on West Brom at the weekend, with Arsene Wenger ruling out out Kieran Gibbs, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere. Although the left-back has returned to training, his manager admits he will be “a bit short” for Sunday, whilst no time-scale has been put on the returns of Wilshere and Oxlade-Chamberlain. Bacary Sagna is rated as 50-50 after picking up a knee problem.

Chelsea midfielder Oscar has admitted that his absence on the pitch in recent weeks is down to a hip injury. The Brazilian is wary of exacerbating the injury and risk missing the World Cup, though hopes to feature in the final game of the season against Cardiff.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

Repost from bottom of last page!

    Mannone
    Cahill /// Azpili /// Kos
    Mata /// Ramsey /// Yaya(VC) /// Nasri
    Wickham(C) /// Aguero /// Rooney***

    Given /// Eriksen*** /// Williamson /// Ward

Am I all set to go this week? Should I still play Roo over Eriksen?

I have to have my team ready for the weekend within the next hour as I don't think I'll have internet after 12. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks guys 🙂

Well I'm on a -4 as it is Don , my gut after Giggs presser
" "You have to be careful with the bug because the immune system is down a bit but Wayne being Wayne wants to play. We'll monitor it over the next 24 hours. Robin has been back training this week. He's looked good. Whether tomorrow is too early we'll just see how he goes today. He's looked really good this week."

" Wayne being Wayne wants to play " seems to indicate that he will at least play the 2nd game and likely to get 60/30 mins in the first game I think , adding to this I'm shifting (c) to Aguero for safety.

So Mata or Aguero better captain choice?
Utd have better fixtures, but not sure how much playtime Mata will get and if he's still in the hole. City have worse fixtures, but Aguero should be nailed on starter, but might not get the full 90 in both matches. Also, don't really know if Aguero has the beast form of earlier this season.

Enjoy this site immensely, the puns last night re Rooney were very amusing.

Now seriously, what do I do with Adam Johnson. Given the form of some super subs etc at Sunderland I think his gametime is seriously under threat. Any transfer would be for a hit -4 so I could either:

        1) Bench and play Sterling (no hit).
        2) Transfer some mid in for 9.5m (already have Nasri and Mata) . Was thinking of Ozil / Cazorla as this would cover Ramsey that my ML rival has. Other mids on DGW sides don't really inspire me - even a punt on Valencia (as Giggs seems to like him) could be fraught with worry!!

        Any replies gratefully accepted

I'm in a very strange situation. I want to captain Aguero, but am protecting a 38 point lead over a rival which is worth around £500. He doesn't have Kun and I'm almost certain he will have brought in Yaya and will captain him. I'm correct to also captain Yaya, right?

I wouldn't do it long term but for a DGW captain, with 2 weeks left it is surely a no brainer. Especially as he doesn't have Kun, so any points from him is a differential enough, without captaining him.

I'm as certain as I can be. From the money spent I'm 99.99999% certain he will have brought in Yaya. His other DGWers are Rooney, Dzeko and Zabaleta. I don't currently have Yaya and with the Rooney news, iIm almost certain he'll go for this to try and catch me.

              a) Coleman -> Ivan (for more cleanie potential)
              b) Eriksen -> Anautovic

I like the look of Stoke (FUL) and grapevine says Wham are going to shut up shop. Also past experiences of players coming to the end of their form say it's Eriksen's time.

Think after this news, 180 minutes is under threat, likely to take Rooney off after 65 or so minutes and bring on RVP in at least one of the games. Think will go Aguero now, more explosive and lots will keep it on Rooney so good if your chasing

                No. Giaccherini may start.

No as Jonson place under threat due to poor performances and giaccherini playing well from the bench. AJ prob will play enough minutes over the DGW but not convinced he'll get the points.

I'd rather have sterling. He will be given freedom to attack like mad. Don't be blinded by the DGW.

Rooney will have some medicine to clog up the shit and he will play imo.

Yeah, but the groin strain mentioned, too... I don't like the thought of capping him.
