The Season Ticker – A How-To Guide

With the Premier League fixture list now revealed, our attentions are almost fully focused on planning ahead of the new campaign in August.

In the past week we’ve provided you with insight on the teams faced with the easiest and most daunting passage over the opening four-to-six Gameweeks and, crucially, our season ticker fixture analysis tool was made live and available to you for you to come to your own conclusions.

The Season Ticker has been part of this site for many seasons, with the members’ version steadily evolving with new features.

Some of you may be unaware of the full functionality available in the Season Ticker, so we’ve created a series of “How To” steps to guide you or inform you on what’s on offer from the Members’ version.

The eight movies below break up some of the features available, from the simple step of accessing the Ticker, right through to creating and sharing your own team ratings.

Part One – Accessing the Season Ticker Tool

Our season ticker tool is free to everyone on the site, offering a view of the next six fixtures for each team and allowing you to sort by a Gameweek to view those teams with the most difficult and “easier” fixtures.

Our first movie shows you how to access the free version of the ticker and explains how we display fixture difficulty.

Part Two – The Members Ticker – Sorting by Difficulty

The version of the ticker available to members offers far more power to assess the difficulty of forthcoming fixtures for each team by allowing you to sort by a collection of Gameweeks.

View up to nine Gameweeks at once and sort the teams to assess those squads worthy of investment. Rollover a fixture to view previous meetings to add further insight.

Our second movie shows you more…

Part Three – The Members Ticker – Navigating Gameweeks

Not only can you add and remove Gameweeks from the members ticker view, you can also navigate back and forth throughout the season so you can plan your mid-term strategies.

Planning on playing your Wildcard early? Scroll the ticker to Gameweek 4 and check out who has the best run of fixtures from that point on.

This movie shows you how…

Part Four – The Members Ticker – Applying Filters

The members ticker not only gives you a view of the overall fixture difficulty ahead of each team, we’ve also supplied filters that show the chances of goals and clean sheets for each team based on their opponents to come.

Shopping for a defender? Use the “clean sheet filter” to view those teams most likely to keep shut-outs over their next run of matches. Looking for a Luis Suarez alternative? View the “attacking filter” and the ticker will display those teams set up to score the most goals in the coming Gameweeks.

View this movie for the lowdown…

Part Five – The Members Ticker – Creating Filters

You may well think that our view of fixture difficulties are off-beam. Then why not tinker and create your own?

The members Ticker offers you the opportunity to edit our ratings to create your own view of each team, enabling you to create brand new filters and overlays.

Check out this movie for a guide on how this is done…

Part Six – The Members Ticker – Sharing Filters

If you’ve created some filters that you think offer a helpful new view of the Season Ticker, or even if you want to an opinion on a filter you’ve created, you can share them with the community.

The Tickers import/export facility makes it easy – just expand the export ratings view and cut and paste the values into an email and the recipient can use the import panel to add your ratings to their ticker and get your filter.

We show you how this works in this movie…

Part Seven – The Members Ticker – Assessing Rotations

Finding pairings of goalkeepers and defenders who rotate home and away, or even rotate favourable fixtures, can be an important factor when selecting your initial squad lineup. The members ticker offers you a handy tool to facilitate such plans.

Members can drag and drop any row on the ticker to organise teams the way they want. Sort by difficulty on clean sheets, then drag and drop rows and you can piece together those teams that offer ideal keeper or defender pairings.

View this movie to see this feature in action…

Part Eight – The Members Ticker – The Expanded View

Did you know that you can use all of the members Ticker’s features in an expanded view? In one click you can expand the view to show up to 30 Gameweeks, giving you the ability to plan your long-term strategy with Wildcards and potential transfer targets.

This video shows you how…

Is Aránguiz of Chile a decent pick? Don't know much about him. Looking for a bargain cheapie in my work game. Will he be more attacking with Vidal out?

    Ochoa
    Gamboa Marquez Yepes Blind
    Campbell J.Jones M.Diaz Robben
    Benzema Sanchez

Missed out some big names but tried to make it fairly balanced so put them in a 4-4-2.

What I think would be a useful feature for the season ticker:

If you could 'select' and filter individual weeks for the ticker to show and then be able to sort on those weeks only.

E.g. If I decide that I want Player X to rotate with a player from another team...I look at, say, the next 8-10 gameweeks and I would select the GW's where Player X has bad fixtures - e.g. could be GW2, GW4, GW5, GW8 - I then want to see which teams have good fixtures for JUST those 4 weeks.

I know I could do this manually, but it would be a neat feature to do this.

Edit - just tried it and I don't think you can. You can move rows around but not columns as far as I can tell.

Besides, that would be a bit fiddly - easier to be able to 'select' which columns you wanted to filter on.

well Argentina are going through and messi could be protected in there with Nigeria are tight at the back conceded only 4 goals of the last 6 games they played (well they didn't face the "big" teams though) and they could settle for a draw as well.

Colombia has sealed the classification and the coach looks round. The effort of his men may notice your computer. Also the drive and when they expect other unusual opportunity.

              I like this one:

"Pekerman is not given to frivolities man."

Insert a comma after 'frivolities' and read it in Jeff Lebowski's voice.

      #FPL defence dream team
So here is what seems Gk and Def checklist for best chance of point returns->
Gk-->CRY/WHAM(Most like me will prefer cheap)
      Def of
      Chel(Cahill)+
Tottenham(Walker/Chiriches) as Pochettino magic OR Stoke(Shawcross as will be cheaper again)+ Manutd(Jones/Shaw if he comes)
{Hull(Chester)+Burnley(trippier)Bench one}-->Select more CBs as more Baps like last season
Playing 4-4-2 most GWs in the first 10GWs with one of Hull/Burnley on bench as like last few seasons, max Cleanies in this period as teams slowly start gelling in attack with the new talents...
P.S-->4-4-2 also helps to have cheap 3rd forward in the start so that have RVp+Suarez frontline as its 12mn+14mn there itself!

You raise a good point. One of the most intriguing decisions will be whether to play four at the back. Especially in the first few GW when TV will be low

Without Pocchettino u really think they will have solidity at back? They dint under nigel adkins before him...And Swans were VERY poor last season...dnt u think its weight and watch in their regard?

Maybe Benzema. Obviously, he's going for the Golden Boot but it would be in France's interests to rest their star man and Deschamps could (and should IMO) decide to put the team's interests ahead of Benzema's.

Only player I can bring him in for is Ronaldo/Messi who haven't played yet whereas if I get Oscar in for Robben then I end up the GW with more players played. Maximizing the number of players I will use this week instead of picking Neymar. Already have to use a transfer on Sakho out.

                  Thoughts?

I've decided it's not worth bringing in defenders now. I've still got Schar but if I had transferred him to RRod, it wouldn't have made any difference. I would say just keep Sakho in, especially if you're doing a straight swap for a French player.

Was gonna get Marcelo in. Think 7 points from him and 2 elsewhere is better than 0 from Sakho and hoping someone else makes a 10+. Risky though I guess as Marcelo isn't guaranteed the cleanie.

If going for a defender, I'd go with an Argentina player. They've conceded just once and Nigeria have only scored once. Not to mention that Nigeria only need the draw so won't risk going a win and being hit on the counter-attack.
