KPI Forward Analysis – 2013/14 Most Improved

With the World Cup on pause for a couple of days, we take time to delve into the domestic data from the 2013/14 season. In the first of a series of features focussing on the KPI statistics in the Members area, we assess the most improved forwards over the season gone by, listing the main players in accordance with goal attempts from inside the box:

For the unfamiliar, these Key Performers Indicator (KPI) tables are designed to use a series of key stats to allow our members to track form or change in player performance. By tracking the frequency of certain key statistics and comparing over two separate periods of time, we can ascertain each player’s form, whether it be an improvement or decrease in displays on the pitch. As mentioned in last summer’s introductory article, we’ve rolled out a preview movie which shows just how to get the best out of the KPI tables.

For the purpose of this series of articles, we analyse the previous two seasons as a means of comparison:

You look at a web site and it tells you them... or you have a total guess and pretend you know more than others 🙂

Take some time away from training or else you'll be too fatigued come next spring...

Anyone going without a dutch striker? they play last so basically you gotta trust em with points cause u cant take em out if they flop.. thinkin of going neymar instead(can swap him out for a defender/mid n switch formation if he flops).

I think so. Being able to replace non-performers is important to me.

      I'm going with 2 non-playing goalies, and 3 non-playing outfielders.

I'm interested in the general consensus though.

Well, I know nothing about Costa Rica except Gamboa.

Gamboa is full of pace and can be a bit out of position defensively, but recovers it with the pace. He is not very good offensively, too hot headed, and doesnæt put in good enough balls or shots for that matter.
Would not say he's the weak spot though.

Yes, for sure. And Gamboa isn't a better full back than Debuchy/Evra atm. So could well be the weak spot.. I just don't know much about Costa Rica.

Gamboa plays in the norwegian league, not a good one (I'm norwegian)

Junior Diaz is not bad offensively, has even got an assist I think, and is more of a solid steady LB who doesn't run up front often, but does deliver decent balls when he has the chance
Not bad in the games I watched Costa Rica

You need to have at least 2-3 to come in last game IMO otherwise the 3rd game becomes the risky last game. I think Costa Rica defenders will score reasonably well and are ok as a reliable pick. Re your earlier question about Robben, he feels like the best Hail Mary option if your other 3 captains flop so I'm probably getting him for the first time this WC

IF Neymar plays then you'd have to take Option A.

      Neymar's > RVP & here's why:
      - Neymar = 3.8 spg, 2.3 kp
      - RVP = 3 spg, 0.3 kp

Add that to the fact that RVP will face a Costa Rican side that holds opponents to 9 shots a game vs. Neymar who'll be facing the Columbians which give up almost double that many shots with 16.

Now, Sneijder's not a better choice than Di Maria by a long shot statistically speaking but, if we look at Sneijder's stats: 2.8 spg & 1.8 kp, we see that he's actually producing at a rate better than RVP so you're not losing anything between these two fantasy-wise...

Too much riding on the last game defensively, would make me uncomfortable (especially not knowing which ones to leave out if you only have 2/3 spots up for grabs).
Don't think the punt on Depay is worth it unless you think he's nailed on? Could downgrade to 1mil and upgrade the defence to include an Argentinian / French / German defender.

Yeah I have been worrying about that also, Too many last game players, might change Blind to Basanta so that would allow me an Argentinean defender.
Depay is my last resort player from the forwards, if any of the front three fail, I would bring in him as I think he will get at least a 30 min sub appearance, even if they are leading, especially if they haven't scored.
But I will bring in an Argentina defender instead.

Dries Mertens should start on the RW, Hazard on the LW
Mirallas might come into the first team though, replacing Mertens
Mirallas came on as a sub for Mertens against USA

Nope, Deschamps started with Varane and Sakho.
He only played Koscielny when Sakho got injured. Varane is as nailed-on as can be.

Varane I think, we would think that Sakho is fit now after resting but we don't know for sure. Varane will start against the Germans. As for points potential, don't know about that really, but I'm thinking France would win against Germans, although might concede.

            +1
Kos only plays when Varane is injured or Sakho booked, both of which happens a lot.
Kos did a good substitute job, but remember France qualified vs Ukraina by losing 2-0 (with Kos) then winning 3-0 with Sakho (who scored).

I think Holland are the only real "clear" favorites for the Q/Fs as all others look so tight to call a winner.

Yet in this world Cup, Costa Rica could beat them!

Last defender question of the night..

Evra looks shocking to me at times..definitely losing his legs. Schurrle will be declared as a starter, or not, before the deadline. Good pick if he plays ?..has to be schurrley.

Definitely putting him in if he's starting. That being said, I think Deschamps realizes that Evra is going to be targeted, Matuidi has been pretty quick in providing cover in what I've seen so far.

Ozil started on the right vs Algeria but switched once Schurrle came on I think. Low should realize that Schurrle running at Evra is bound to create problems for the French.
