The Scout Picks Revolution

We’ve decided to reinvigorate the Scout Picks for the forthcoming season. The new method of presenting our weekly player recommendations will not only offer a more varied viewpoint on the thinking behind the final selection, it will give you, the community, the opportunity to contribute and even go up against the Gameweek selections made by us.

What’s This About A Revolution?

Myself, Paul and Jonty will select our Scout Picks 1-11 for the Gameweek ahead.

No strict budget limitation will be applied but, that said, we will endeavour to be mindful of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) prices. Scout Picks selectors are encouraged to consider the total value of their 1-11 when making their selections to ensure that budget and mid-price options are explored.

Scout Picks selections can use any one of the following formations – 3-5-2, 3-4-3, 4-4-2, 4-3-3.

No more than three players can be selected in the 1-11 from any Premier League team.

A nominated member of the Fantasy Football Scout team will be appointed “Assistant manager” for the Gameweek head. He will prepare a 1-11 selection to represent the community.

The community have the opportunity to nominate a “Champion” for the Gameweek ahead who will relieve the “Assistant Manager” of his duties.

How Do I Get Involved?

Would-be community “Champions” must put themselves forward in the Scout Picks Community Nomination Hot Topic which will be published mid-morning, normally on Mondays.

Nominees should list their provisional 1-11 Scout Picks selections when putting themselves forward. Nominations will normally close by Wednesday at 10am.

The rest of the community should use the Up Vote to show their support for an initial nomination and their provisional Scout Pick lineup in the Hot Topic.

Forty eight-hours later, a poll, listing those nominations with the most community support, will be published allowing the community to vote for their final choice of Gameweek Champion.

The successful community “Champion” must supply their final Scout Picks 1-11 to Jonty (jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk) by 3pm on Friday.

Should we fail to get any nominations or, at any point, the community “Champion” fails to provide an initial or final Scout Pick selection, then the Community “Assistant Manager” will re-gain control of the selection to represent the community for the Gameweek in question.

How Will the Scout Picks Be Judged?

We will total up the FPL points for all four Scout Pick selections (Myself, Paul, Jonty and the Community) after the Gameweek concludes and we will keep a running tally as the season progresses.

Are There Are Any Other Rules?

Yes there are. Plus, we reserve the right to make up some more along the way once we get started.

For now, we’re stipulating the following:

  • Community Champion Nominations must be registered users on Fantasy Football Scout and must post their provisional Scout Picks in the Hot Topic.
  • Scout Picks cannot be posted as a nomination on behalf of another user.
  • Nominations must be willing to supply a valid email address for contact throughout the selection process.
  • Any nomination or Champion voted by the community who is later put under moderation, will not be considered for that Gameweek.
  • We reserve the right to change and overrule the selection of the chosen Community Champion at anytime.

So Will There be Four Scout Picks Published?

While the Scout Picks article will list the four selections made by myself, Paul, Jonty and the Community, a final and official Scout Picks selection will be posted as normal on Friday.

This will be made up of a combination of the four Scout Picks selections and will be based on one of the valid formations and include a 1-11 and three subs – one defender, one midfielder and one forward.

Again, no strict budget limitation will be applied to this 1-14 selection but, that said, we will endevour to be mindful of the FPL prices for the current Gameweek.

We will be introducing this new system from Gameweek 2 onwards. For Gameweek 1, we’ve given the community every chance of getting off to a good start against myself, Paul and Jonty: the Community Scout Picks team will be selected by Tom Fenley, last season’s FPL winner.

Look out for the Gameweek 1 Scout Picks around 6.00pm on Friday. After that, you can start preparing your Picks for Gameweek 2 and see if you can get the vote to represent the community against us.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Costa looks like he'll be the focsl point of the attack. And that chelsea midfield will serve it up to him on a platter. Torres should have racked up the points last year but was useless.

There should be a big disclaimer on the team news section, indicating the players for GW 1 aren't a true representation of each team's most likely XI. They are chosen, based on injuries/pre-season e.t.c with quite a few subject to rotation. Most of the ones that look interesting will only be punts for one or two gameweeks.

Cheers - Louise Taylor has it wrong then on the Guardian's review of Sunderland's prospects. She says:

"Billy Jones – a free transfer from West Brom and Bardsley’s replacement at left back – has much to prove"

"While Santiago Vergini, at right back, John O’Shea and Wes Brown in central defence and Van Aanholt represents a more than competent obstruction and destruction unit"

So are Vergini and Jones competing for one spot?

Hi all, Question in relation to Bojan...

I see him in many RMTs at the moment.. Then comments that he isn't a good pick..
In terms of rotation STK / SWA is pretty nice so is there something im missing with him?
That is a nice cheap combo to rotate over 9 gameweeks and play the strong 4 mids and 2 heavy hitter forwards...

    Thoughts?

he was quite poor, but he was injured a lot. Of those appearances many were as a sub or being subbed off injured. He also played as a winger so he wasn't going to get like 20-25 goals.

A lot of ppl around here are planning on rotating him with Siggy. Could work.

My only concern is Siggy's position : he seems to be fielded on the wing, and it's not his preferred position by far, so it could mean less points for us

Bojan won't score as well as people think he will. He's absolutely useless on the wing and sees himself as a number 9 but lacks any king of physicality. He will get injured though. So most likely pretty soon you'd be stuck with an injured cheap forward you have to replace.

Rooney at 43% ownership is unbelievable. IIRC for the past 2 seasons he been close to a differential at the start of the season. If City v United was first game of the season he would be closer to 20%.

Initial drafts had no Man City coverage, but I've decided to ignore fixtures to a degree & try to cover all of the big guns. How does this look?

    DDG/4mil
    Terry/Debuchy/Ward/Cameron/Simpson
    Ramsey/Silva/Eriksen/Henderson/Siggy
    Rooney/Costa/Bojan

6 big teams + Swans&Stoke covered going forward
3 big teams +Palace/Stoke/QPR rotation at the back

    Any constructive thoughts/praise/criticism welcome

Simpson and Cameron may not be nailed on. Don't fancy Henderson

Yeah bit of a risk with Cameron/Simpson but I suppose that's the case with a lot of the 4.5 defenders.

Fancy a big year from Henderson. Rodgers has challenged him to score 10 goals this season and the whole team will need to chip in with more goals now that Suarez has left. Fancy Sterling/Coutinho to run defenders ragged & Henderson to make runs picking up scraps and getting a few more goals.

      Spurs....

      Lloris

Naughton (Walker when fit) - Verts, Kaboul (think there'll be a purchase here), Davies

      Paulinho, Capoue (Schneiderlin wanted)

Lennon (all managers end up starting with him), Erikssen, Lamela (bit of a MP project I reckon)

Adebayor (if Malaria effects worn off)

Kaboul could be rotated with Chirch later in the season, Dawson too slow for MP. Rose just given a new contract but I think will be starting 2nd choice. Holtby seems to be liked and playing well pre-season but who will he replace? Sandro fans favourite but MP seems to prefer Capoue. Townsend will challenge Lennon but my guess is Lennon to start. Soldado is apparently improving but don't see him as a 'one up' player unlike Ade. Hope it helps.

I've had a little tinker with my defense and came up with this:

    Terry - Lovren - Chambers - Baird - Bartley

    Hows this look?

    Best 8.5 GK combo.

Tempted to go with the Leicester GKs, terrible opening fixtures but could suprise and plenty of save points potential.

Manquillo is in the Team News section as a starting right back for Liverpool with Johnson shifted out left - I had assumed Enrique would play ladt and Johnson right?

Any idea how they arrived at this, how likely is it and does anyone know if Manquillo is any good.

    Please excuse my ignorance...

Enrique has deteriorated over the years, Moreover Liverpool have signed a new LB in Moreno.

This is his best chance for a start. Him, Johnson and Enrique are the only fullbacks ready to play atm, and Enrique looks really out of shape to me. Sakho has played LB before but i doubt that will be the case. Anyway, Manquillo is only an option for GW1 imo, and not a save one too.

Interested to know too, a 4.5 route to their backline would be amazing. I'm going to toss a coin and correct it GW2 is I have to - they'll be on my bench GW1 at Arsenal in any case...
