Scout Notes – Gameweek 2 – Monday

Stevan Jovetic bags a brace as City ease past Liverpool 3-1. Sergio Aguero emerges from the bench to score once again, with a Pablo Zabaleta own goal denying the hosts a second clean sheet of the season.

Jovetic at the Double
The City striker proved a deadly differential in last night’s encounter with Liverpool by bagging a brace in the 3-1 win. Sold by over 24,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers last week, Jovetic sat in less than 5% of Fantasy teams as the Reds rolled up to the Etihad but, handed a start alongside Edin Dzeko once again, he rediscovered the form that saw him net five times in pre-season and delivered a 13-point return for his owners.

Now down to 7.9 in FPL, Jovetic seems in the driving seat to retain a starting berth at home to Stoke next weekend and arguably has the platform to edge ahead of Dzeko in the pecking order. The latter was forced off with a leg problem midway through the second period, though Manuel Pellegrini was optimistic of his chances after the match:

“Edin had a kick that gave him some trouble with his leg but I don’t think it is anything important. We will see tomorrow but I think he will be okay.”

Quick-Fire Aguero Nets Again
Once again, the Argentine demonstrated that he needs little time to make an impact for City. Having netted just seven minutes into his substitute appearance at Newcastle last week, Aguero scored 23 seconds after climbing off the bench to breach the Liverpool backline and bring him onto Fantasy radars ahead of the home clash against Stoke. Granted, Manuel Pellegrini’s team sheets underline he’s clearly determined to protect Aguero as he returns to match sharpness, but if Dzeko fails to recover, the little Argentine could be let loose against the Potters.

Kolarov the fall-guy
Despite putting in a strong attacking display in the clean sheet at Newcastle, it was Aleks Kolarov who was sacrificed for Pablo Zabaleta’s return to the starting XI. Gael Clichy switched to his preferred left-back role, leaving Kolarov on the bench as an unused sub. With Bacary Sagna also now an option for Pellegrini, the full-back situation is looking complex and difficult to read. Secure investment in the City back four looks limited to Joe Hart and Vincent Kompany once again, then.

Reds Unconvincing in Etihad Loss
A late own goal by Pablo Zabaleta was all the Reds had to show for last night’s display. Coming off the back of a narrow home win over Southampton, there are signs that Liverpool may take some time to adjust to life without Luis Suarez. The late introduction of Rickie Lambert suggests the former Southampton man will be no more than Brendan Rodgers’ “Plan B” in the latter part of matches, though Raheem Sterling owners will be a little concerned that the youngster’s minutes were curtailed to allow Lambert pitch time.

In defence, Rodgers has concerns over full-backs Glen Johnson and Albert Moreno who picked up injuries. The former was forced out of the action due to a thigh problem, whilst the Spaniard picked up a sprained ankle on his debut. With a trip to Spurs up next, the Reds defence looks unlikely to chalk up their first shut-out of the season in light of last night’s display, though the schedule does improve significantly from Gameweek 4 onwards.

Jovetic was lucky yesterday, and Stoke will play defensively. Cant see ManC score more than twice. And Jovetic wont be nailed on. I would suggest a more nailed on choice. Lukaku, Adebayor or even Sanogo (if fit and Giroud is out for 3 months he must be the first choice for a striker)

Man Utd have scored 1 goal per game so far and their opponent conceded only once vs Swansea which makes me a little bit reluctant for Rooney. Ramsey could be a good choice but he has scored 2 GWs in a row. Since it is early though, Rooney is the obvious choice. Thanks everyone for the comments

In a 4-2-3-1 who exactly is Chadli's competition ?...Lamela, Eriksen, Chadli swapped around all game across that midfield three last time out....Is that going to be the way forward at Spurs ? and if so who else can do that same change and change around other than those three...I can't see anybody?
    Thoughts ?

Indeed but there's no reason they have to stick with one system or the other. Sometimes width is needed. I'd say it's Chadli's spot to lose now

and sherwood basically played him CM in a 2 which is half the reason his rep is so low. he's a clever player and i think is underestimated in many areas due to his size, one of his little flicks so often starts a counter attack for example

Go for him Wakey. He's 2nd on my watchlist for Schurrle replacements. Read some comments on him by Poch(I'll see if I can find em), but what I get from them is he's fairly nailed on.

Especially with the style Poch wants like you said. Townsend and Lennon are more out and out wingers. Top option@6m IMO.

But, surely he's nailed on for the foreseeable future with his brace on the weekend?

Going for a City forward Wakey?

"Lamela, Adebayor, Chadli and Eriksen create the movement and rotate – they are free,” Pochettino said.

“We work a lot on the training ground but it is important that the players are free in their minds because they are creative players. You can not put the players like that in the shade, you need to provide the organisation but after that they are free.

Hopefully that gives you a little more insight.

Might have to ask someone who watched the game. He is on penalties though.
Although, with that system and Chadli being significantly cheaper than the rest @6m.....hmmm

            http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/6159/

Find Chadli and sort by each column, then consider time played. He was on the pitch for 68 minutes.

at half time he had 100% passing too. going to give it a couple more games to judge, amongst other things chadli is quite injury prone

I'll give Schurrle another week or 2 before I get in Chadli. No other spot I'd give up for him. He'll be a nice differential amongst people on here. No one listens to me when I suggest unexpected goal scorers 😆

Kun or Jovetic this week? Will the City forward be your Bojan replacement?

If you want to make a transfer it's good knowing whether or not those players will rise or fall. It means you can monitor the situatino and only do the transfer when you have to and not get caught out by a change in value.

To those very few doubting Jovetic potential. He was the 3rd most efficient striker last season despite limited playing time.. Only 5, but he's shown even in preseason (which can be argued irrelevant) his mettle against top sides. Aguero was first, so sure, but Jovetic definitely quality.

To whoever it was speculating about Mata losing his place to Di Maria. Mark Ogden agrees with you! Looks like he could be on borrowed time in our FPL teams.

Young should be first to lose his spot, Mata has an excellent strike rate, how are we ever going to justify dropping him to the bench?

His strikes for Utd have been against lower order teams is one argument they could make. I think he's too good to be dropped though.

Aye, pretty sure it's 7 goals in 10 games playing CAM for United.

That's the argument in the article. I don't think he'll be dropped just yet but as an owner it is definitely concerning. He lacks pace and likes to occupy the same spaces as Rooney, the captain does. One to monitor though and Di Maria could well be a similar priced replacement.

For members take a look at comparison tool for Lamela and Eriksen. Seems well worth keeping Eriksen for a few more GWs.

Nice one. Add to that set pieces and you have someone we need to be patient with.....which isnt my strong point!

Eriksen is at the centre of everything and looks like he could become a consistent point scoring machine once he gets a bit of luck.

As a Lamela owner I certainly wouldn't advise Eriksen owners to sell. Eriksen will have his day and is showing signs of promise.

    Aguero is ruining my life.

    Rooney to Aguero

Sterling to Rodwell for a 4 point hit, in order to get him in this week.

    Stick or twist?

Don't do it. At least wait for Aguero to be starting. Man Utd are only going to get better as well as the players adapt to Van Gaal's methods and new players come in.

You would rather have Rodwell than Sterling? Look at Pools fixtures from GW4 onwards.

I would rather have Sterling but he was my least line of resistance when freeing up cash for Aguero. I have come to my senses now

    Okay here's my dilemma:

Take Henderson, Rooney and Dzeko out for Sterling, Naismith and Aguero or not?

What are people thinking about Eriksen ---> Siggy for free? No other way I can get siggy in and eriksen hasnt scored enough to warrant his price yet
